Awww: Peyton Manning Keep Away Was Planned

((ht: deadspin.com))

Aw heck, this kinda takes a little of the fun out of it.

If you weren't watching last night, in the midst of the Denver Broncos 42-17 destruction of the San Francisco 49ers, during the game, Peyton Manning broke the record for most TD passes of all time. That record was previously 508 and held by Brett Favre.

In fact he added to it by throwing 4 TD's in the game.

But TD pass 509, while impressive as heck, was almost overshadowed afterwards when Broncos receivers Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders and Wes Welker appeared to play keep away from Manning, who wanted the ball to mark the occasion.

And watching on TV, it was really, really funny.

But...

Sad face....

It would have been a lot more fun had it been spontaneous, but it was still funny.

Here is some video from NBC Sports:

NFL and Players Association Modify Drug Testing Program

This probably is a long time coming for the NFL and the NFLPA. In the dust of last weeks "Worst Week Ever" for the NFL, the league came to an agreement with it's players association on multiple improvements to their drug testing policy.

Among the changes:

---Increasing the threshold for a positive marijuana test and additional steps will be put in place for positive test before players are suspended.

---Independent arbitrators will hear appeals for positive tests.

---DUI's: 2 game suspension for anyone convicted or pleading to driving under the influence. This is contrary to the NFL's request of issuing discipline upon request.

---Amphetamines: 1st positive test in the offseason without a pre ordained exemption will be evaluated under the Substance Abuse Policy. Any positive test during the season without exemptions will be considered automatic violation of the policy.

---HGH: Testing will begin this season. Players are able to challenge the results and testing will not happen on game days.

---Finally, 3 players retroactively suspended will be immediately eligible. Wes Welker, Orlando Scandrick and Steadman Bailey are able to return to their teams. The fate of Rashad Jones is still up in the air. And suspended wide receiver Josh Gordon will be eligible to return to the Cleveland Browns on Week 11 instead of the original season long ban he was facing.

What does this mean? Hopefully not much other than the league and it's players will be more responsible. And yes, we, like you have our doubts about that...

Wes Welker Gets Off "Off The Record"

((HT: OTR on TSN))

Michael Landsberg has been known for his interviewing...

Introspective, in-depth, and sometimes off-the-wall...

Like this one with Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker
Who was less than impressed with Landsberg's line of questioning...

Lesson: Unless you want to ever...

Want to have someone be a guest on your show ever again...
You don't do what happened there...

Manning Throws For 7 Against Baltimore, Trevathan Almost Made It 8 Scores

Who thought that Peyton Manning would roll seven touchdowns against Baltimore for the season opener...???

Manning equalled a feat that hadn't been done in 44 years in the 49-27 win. Manning connected with Wes Welker, Julius Thomas, and Demaryius Thomas for two TDs each in piling up the most points scored on the Ravens in their 18-year history.

Manning was 27 of 42 for 462 yards with the seven TDs and no interceptions. He finished with a quarterback rating of 141.1.

Thomas led Denver receivers with 161 yards. Julius Thomas was the first Denver tight end to go over 100 yards receiving in a game since 2009- with an even 100.

Oh, by the way... Knowshon Moreno was the leading rusher with 28 yards on nine carries.

Joe Flacco was 34 of 62 passing for the Ravens for 362 yards, 2 TDs and 2 interceptions. One of those interceptions led to the only Broncos fail on the evening...

Danny Trevathan celebrated a little too early- fortunately it didn't cost the team since they were up 25 at the time...

Pawnshop publicity stunt mocks Wes Welker's drops

((ht: necn.com))

Arguably when a company wants to do a "Publicity Stunt", they do it with the intent of driving people to their business.

In this case, we're pretty sure that isn't going to happen.

A Denver based internet pawn shop company thought they were being funny Tuesday by placing some 900 lbs of Butterfinger candy bars in Boston's Copley Square.

The reason: to allegedly poke fun at New England Patriots receiver Wes Welker who dropped what debatably was a key late game pass, though he would have had to contort his body to do it.

The pawn company's owner released a statement saying "Following the Super Bowl game we at ----- thought Boston fans deserved a little something in return for their heartbreaking loss in the form of a great candy! Sometimes there is a light side to sports and we thought Boston fans might at least get a laugh out of it."

Uh...they didn't find it so funny. ((**note**--we didn't name the company because we didn't find it funny either))
