Another Skate Blade Incident In The Minors (NSFW)

((HT: TSN/Bardown/PJStar))

The SPHL game between the Huntsville Havoc and Peoria Rivermen was suspended when the Havoc's Justin Cseter was unintentionally cut by the skate blade of Peoria's Dennis Sicard. Cseter fell on the blade of Sicard and it slashed his thigh in a gap in his equipment between the pants and the knee. A stick was used as a tourniquet- which is really tremendous thinking in a panic situation.

This isn't pretty...
There were reports of fans fainting in the stands because of all the blood. From Dave Eminian's piece in the Peoria Journal-Star: Doctors said Cseter suffered a wound about 1 1/2 inches deep and about six inches wide across his inner thigh on his right leg. His muscle was cut, but the skate blade missed his artery. Thirty minutes later he was rolled out on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance and hospitalized, with surgery ahead of him. WMBD Radio in Peoria is reporting that Cseter was out of hospital this morning and returning to Huntsville with the team. His prognosis is good. There is no timetable set for his return, but he is expected to make his way back onto the ice to play in the Havoc line-up at some point.

Wrestler Wins Hep C Lawsuit Vs. Abdullah The Butcher

((HT: CBC Ottawa))

Devon Nicholson wrestled under the nickname "Hannibal" in Canadian circuits and had even shown enough talent to get himself a tryout with World Wrestling Entertainment. In a match in Alberta in 2007, he was going up against Abdullah The Butcher.

Nicholson was bladed by The Butcher (against Nicholson's consent) and contended that he contracted hepatitis C as a result of the match. The tryout and contract Nicholson had picked up went away and Nicholson took Larry Shreeve to court for C$6.5-million.

Here's the verdict in the Ontario court
Nicholson is looking to be an example for others who have fought hep C and it will be interesting to see if Shreeve will pay up. In April of 2012, on the Global News magazine program, 16x9, Nicholson describes what he's been through before the verdict and Shreeve denies what he did.

Oscar Pistorius Trial: Day 9- Pictures From The Scene

((HT: SABC Digital News))

Prosecutors continue their case against sprinter Oscar Pistorius...

Day 9 had them presenting "after" photos of the crime scene which, again, caused Pistorius to become physically ill as he sat at his defense table. The pictures were displayed on monitors, but as Pistorius continued to see the photos and react the way he was, his monitor was eventually turned off...

Here's the first part of the session...

Flyers Prospect Stolarz Gashed By Skate

((HT: RogersTV/Hockey Prospects Video))

This, there is no dispute, was an ugly injury that could have been a whole lot worse...

Last night, when London played Saginaw in the Ontario Hockey League, Knights goalie and Flyers prospect Anthony Stolarz was gashed by a skate blade in the crease...

Stolarz is 21-4-1-1 with the Knights this year with a 2.58 goal-against average and .925 save percentage.

He tweeted out later last evening:

At the hospital now. Thank you all for the kind words. Nothing too serious and I'll be looking to get right back on the as soon as I can.

OSG High: And We Have Our First Fight Of The Year ( SUNDAY UPDATE)

((HT: MyFoxAL))

For that, we go to Jasper, Alabama and Cullman's 13-10 victory over Walker...

A fight started on the field immediately following the game.

Cell phone video from Shannon Maze shows what looks like a lot of people involved...

The Cullman-Times newspaper reports the fight involved players and coaches from both teams.

Cullman defensive coordinator Matt Hopper could be seen emerging from the crowd with multiple bruises on his face. The Jasper Daily Mountain Eagle Facebook page shows a really
nasty photo of Hopper bruised and bloody (pictured, right, thanks Jeff Johnsey), with an officer grabbing him by the collar to keep him from getting back into the fray- whether on offense or defense, we don't know...

The brawl was broken up, but there isn't any word on arrests or any other discipline at present.

More when we know more...

TV 16 in Jasper, Alabama televised the game... the video of the fight is hyah...
And below...

From the looks of things, a Jasper coach took a swing at Hopper and it blew up from there...

SUNDAY UPDATE: The Mountain Eagle reports that Walker coach John Holladay has been placed on administrative leave pending the completion of the investigation.

From the article by Johnathan Bentley & Ron Harris:

“Coach Holladay is under administrative leave and has no involvement with the team,” Jasper City Schools AD Jimmie Alexander said. “You hate to see any situation that causes a blight on the program. There are a lot of factors that need to be looked at. We will continue to investigate and go from there. I can tell you we will have a thorough investigation.

“[Jasper Police Chief] Connie Rowe has been cooperative and is following up on her end.”

Police are investigating whether or not charges will be filed. Cullman officials have no thought of disciplining any of their coaches or players. The Alabama High School Football Athletic Association is reviewing the events with Cullman officials Tuesday
