This story alternates in the HQ's consciousness between classless, weird, and just plain awful.
Former Georgia Tech and NFL linebacker Recardo Wimbush is being sought, along with his wife, on charges that they basically imprisoned their 13-year-old son in their basement for the better part of a year. Police say nine other children were upstairs. The teenage boy was locked in a small room in the basement that had a bucket, a box spring, and a mattress.
The arrest warrant says that Wimbush and his wife told officials that the teenager molested three of his siblings and that was why he was alone downstairs. The child responded that he lied about stealing a DVD player.
Here's FOSG Tony Thomas
The Wimbushes have until Friday to turn themselves in to authorities.

Victim 5 First To Settle With Penn State
((HT: CNN))
The inevitability in the Jerry Sandusky case is hitting Penn State a little harder now...
The Philadelphia Inquirer's Susan Snyder has the story of Victim 5's case against Penn State University now is settled for the ever-popular undisclosed amount.
It's the first of a reported 26 settlements expected among 31 young men who have claims over the former Penn State coach's actions and the school’s lack of a response until everything came cascading into the public view.
Victim 5's attorney, Tom Kline, told the Associated Press that his client attached his claim to Penn State, so the school would have a better shot at getting their money back from other sources more closely connected to Sandusky like his "The Second Mile" charity.
From Snyder:
Because the assault occurred so soon after the McQueary report and took place on campus, it was considered pivotal in reaching a settlement agreement with other victims, said Michael K. Rozen, a lawyer hired by the university to help settle the cases.
"The pivotal issue from the university's perspective in dealing with the victims is where the incident occurred and when it occurred proximate to the 2001 shower incident," Rozen said. " 'Number 5' is probably the singular one of the claims that has come to the university's attention where it absolutely, positively could have been stopped."
Sandusky is serving a 30 to 60-year state prison sentence for child molestation and related offenses.
Here's CNN coverage just as the Sandusky guilty verdict was reached...

Coach K Talks About Joe Pa
Duke and Team USA head coach Mike Krzyzewski discusses the Freeh report and his thoughts on Joe Paterno.
It’s quite obvious that Coach K has been buried in preparations for the London Olympics and hasn’t fully consumed the Freeh report.
Krzyzewski never blamed Paterno in public comments feeling after all he has accomplished Paterno deserved better. Even Coach K realizes this report will forever stain Paterno’s legacy.

9 Jurors Picked For Sandusky Trial
((HT: WPVI-TV Philadelphia))
In the first round of questioning of 40 prospective jurors (out of 220 prospective and more than 600 summons) for the Jerry Sandusky trial, about half said they or immediate family members worked at Penn State or were university retirees.
But there seems to be a lot of people who believe that an open mind can be kept in the case.
The former Penn State coach faces 52 criminal counts and potential penalties that could yield, basically, a life prison sentence for alleged abuse involving 10 boys. He has denied the allegations.
Of course...
Chad Pradelli was outside the courtroom...
Judge John Cleland thinks he'll be able to start the case Monday, and Cleland believes the trial will go for three weeks...
Bully for him if he thinks that...

DEVELOPING: Philly Columnist Conlin "Retires" On Sexual Molestation Allegation
((HT: NBC10 Philadelphia))
According to his paper, the Daily News he did that instead of "resigning..." in the wake of a reported investigative story by Nancy Phillips claiming allegations of child molestation...
Here's the link to the Deadspin piece...
More when we know more...
But, in the interim, here's Conlin accepting a Lew Klein Award at Temple back in October of this year...
((HT: 2020VisualMedia))
The HQ had one run-in with Conlin in our time... actually, it was more of a shocking sidle...
We were at an Atlanta Braves game as they were losing to the Phillies. In the 7th inning, the young interns would bring trays of ice cream by for the working media along press row. Conlin spotted the tray and gave the girl who handed it to him a look like he was going to devour the entire thing- and the arms attached.
The intern couldn't have been more frightened and Conlin could not have been more anticipatory in his dessert-based glee...
More when we know more...
1645 UPDATE: We know more...
The Phillips piece is out...
One of the four is allegedly a niece who is now a prosecutor. She wanted to bring these accusations to light, some of which are almost 40 years old, to bring attention to the issue of statutes of limitations for the crime...
This is all Class-A creepy... and the Phillips piece is an equally-creepy must-read...
