Hail Mary Pass A Game Winner For Arizona

Arizona was down 28-6 at halftime to California at home.

Rich Rodriquez must of had a hell of a halftime speech.

“There wasn’t any panic at halftime,” Rodriguez said. “We’re in shape. I told the guys before the game that we were going to have to play for 60 minutes.”

Arizona outscored California 43-27 in the second half and that would have been a story however the way the game ended trumped all of that.

With the Wildcats down 43-45 on the games final play Anu Soloman, who threw for a school record 520 yards, threw the Hail Mary and Austin Hill caught it to win the game for Arizona 49-45.

\\

"Anu (Solomon) threw a great ball and I'm just happy I was able to make the
catch." Hill said.  "The whole time I was hoping that I wouldn't get bumped into or anyone land on top of me so I could secure the catch. It means a lot to me that I was able to secure the catch."

"Winning on a Hail Mary is so improbable." Arizona head coach Rich Rodriquez said.  "At first you are exhilarated and then you're thinking ‘how did that just happen?’ I'm so happy for Austin Hill who is a senior that bounced back. You're happy for Anu Solomon) who was off tonight, but kept battling and executed the last play. I'm happy for   the people who stayed and watched the game. It's a good day to be an Arizona Wildcat."

"We’re sorry we didn’t find a way to win the ball game tonight, but I told them it won’t ever happen again." California quarterback Sonny Dykes said.  "It is part of growing up, and getting a program turned around.”

Our First Hail Mary Win Of The Year

((HT: Bluedogsu))

And it comes from one of the more prestigious HBCU rivalry games of the year...

Jackson State was trailing Florida A&M 17-16 with time running out when this happened...

So, DeSean McKenzie gets the tip drill down and JSU wins 22-17...

"We worked on that — a matter of fact, all of fall camp," first-year head coach Harold Jackson told the Jackson Clarion-Ledger's Ros Dumlao. "It was something we worked on to the right side, and we threw it to the left side this time. And we never worked on it in the left side. ... But it doesn't matter what side we worked on. Hey, it works as long as we come out with a victory."

And, you did...

Here's QB LaMontiez Ivy and McKenzie after the game...

Really, Bo Pelini...??? Really...???

((HT: BTN))

In B1G action today, it has been a rough week for the Pelini family...

We have chronicled the sheer stupidity that allegedly got brother Carl fired in Boca, and it almost hit critical mass in Lincoln...

Northwestern had a lead and could stop their four-game losing streak if they could just hold on...
Only thing was, everyone forgot to check with third-string QB Ron Kellogg III...

So, just how safe is Pelini's job anyway...???

Best H.S Hail Mary This Weekend

((ht: maxpreps.com))

We won't go overboard with the hyperbole here and say this is the greatest High School Hail Mary pass ever, because in part 1) It probably isn't and 2) There will be a better one next week.

But this one is pretty good.

Elk Grove, Illinois vs Rolling Meadows, 9 seconds to go on the 48 yard line and Elk Grove trails by a touchdown.

That's when QB Adam O'Malley drops back, somehow avoids a couple pass rushers, nearly gets sacked before escaping and throwing the ball as far as he can.

Somehow the ball ends up between two defensive backs and into the arms of WR Mike Bishoff, who drags two more Rolling Meadows defenders into the end zone. Rolling Meadows now trails by 1.

But there's more

Elk Grove tries to kick and extra point and misses. Except there was a penalty called on Rolling Meadows. Elk Grove goes for two, converts and walks away with a 34-33 win.

OSG High: Bridal Bouquet Toss 2-Point Wins Game

((HT: youtube))

FOSG Trent Butler gives us this one...

After leading the Oakmont ((CA)) Vikings to a TD with 2.2 seconds left in regulation, Taylor Laird does the bridal bouquet toss to Namani Parker for the successful 2-point conversion in a 44-43 over Lincoln ((CA)) High.

Here's the play...

“We knew we couldn’t go to overtime against that offense,” Oakmont head coach Tim Moore told the Lincoln News-Messenger. “We practiced that play over and over again. … It works every time.”

The Vikings said in post-game interviews that the play works every time...

As of right now, they're 1-for-1...
