BREAKING: Robert Morris Golf Dome Collapses

((HT: CBSPittsburgh/KDKA-TV))

The golf dome at the Robert Morris University Island Sports Center collapsed on Neville Island, Pennsylvania. There were about 10 people inside the dome when it started to deflate, including staff and people using the course.

Here's coverage from the Dome at Robert Morris...

The folks at RMU are investigating the actual cause of the deflation, but eyewitnesses say the roof collapsed in a minute's time. The heavy weather in the area caused the structural braces and air pressure drop - a mini-microburst seems to have created the critical event...

Pamphilon: Fujita Claims He "Used To Be" Gregg Williams

((HT: SeanPamphilon.com))

In light of the knowledge of evidence of a ledger that allegedly told New Orleans Saints players how much they would get for "whacks" and "cart-offs," but deducted for "mental errors" filmmaker Sean Pamphilon has posted a recap of his eyewitness accounts during the shooting of the Steve Gleason documentary where the Gregg Williams audio tape came to light...

Here's an excerpt from a moment Scott Fujita, Gleason, and Pamphilon experienced back on January 12, 2012

15 minutes after the meeting ended, I was sitting at a table in a room where players and coaches were sampling from a buffet. Scott Fujita and Gregg Williams exchanged pleasantries, as his former coach passed by with a plate of food.

Fujita looked at me and said under his breath, “I can’t believe I used to be that guy,” referring to once being part of the scene we had just witnessed.

Pamphilon goes on to publish a series of texts between himself and Fujita expressing concern as to whether or not the audio should make light- and they're long... also, though, they're worth reading... and recaps how what he wanted to do as a project seems to have gone completely out of control...

Fujita seems to have a sense of remorse in seeing the sport he played drift to where it is inside the Saints locker room...

Jason Cole for Yahoo!Sports also follows the ledger story and says that the Jonathan Vilma case may come down to semantics... just because there is a ledger doesn't mean anyone followed through on the idea of the payoffs...

Here's Fujita discussing what went down on the first day of OTA's...

Nice: College Station mayor volleys back at Will Muschamp

What is it with Texas mayor's taking to YouTube to fire back at famous sports people who criticize their cities?

First it was the mayor of San Antonio firing back at NBA blowhard Charles Barkley, a story that we reported on and showed video of.

You can see it RIGHT HERE

Now it's College Station, Texas (home of Texas A&M) Mayor Nancy Berry. Berry responded to a perceived slight by current Florida Gator head coach and former Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp.

Coach Boom apparently told a recent Gator Club meeting that while a game with Texas A&M will most certainly have an "SEC" feel to it. It will be the only reason any of them will ever think of visiting College Station.

And he's not totally wrong. We haven't been to College Station, but we are reasonably certain that like Muschamp, we probably would have no reason to go unless we were attending an A&M game. We're guessing that College Station is a lot like Lubbock (Home of Texas Tech) where there is a lot of nothing...and then the town appears. And there really isn't much there...other than the town (we've been to Lubbock--for a game).

Anyway, here is the Mayor's response. It's funny...mostly due to the photoshopped pictures of Muschamp.

Her honor must have a good creative person on her media staff.

Glendale forks over more money for Coyotes

((ht: azcentral.com))

When is enough taxpayer money enough?

If you are the city of Glendale, Arizona, apparently the answer is never. The city's leaders mysteriously approved $15 million from their utility reserves to help pay a $25 million holding fee/bounty to the NHL for their current ownership of the Phoenix Coyotes.

Can we just say this is the most vile misuse of public money for a sports team in history?

Yeah.

Apparently the utility money has been used before and the reserve fund, which is supposed to help maintain and improve service in the city is all but broke.

And according to the AZCentral story on the subject, half the members of city council are pleading ignorance, with one saying "I didn't pay attention as to where the money was coming from.

As much as we rail on tax money for improved football stadiums, that pales in comparison to what is going on in Glendale.

Yeah, we get the team or at least the former owner went bankrupt. But that should have been his problem...not the city's.

And yet it is.

We will say the NHL and city have tried selling the team. Twice. But those deals were so heavily leveraged, there's no way they would be long-term viable. The current deal with Greg Jamison is almost the same. The city is essentially going to pay him to buy the team. And defer most of the cost.

How are they going to get the loan. Because of all this, Glendale's credit rating has gone in the crapper, so they are going to have a hard time getting a loan to pay it off.

We've been told, the city keeps trying to keep the team there because of the investment in the Jobing.com arena and alleged shopping district around it. And they are on the hook for that too.

The question is when do you just cut bait? There are plenty of gazillionaire's in Canada who'd be glad to take the team off their hands. But the Bettman (Commish Gary Bettman) and the city keep saying no. Bettman doesn't want to be proven wrong, but he's playing with other people's money here.

And the charade just keeps going on.

Bizarre Soccer Fan on Field: Only in Europe

((ht: deadspin.com))

Folks, this is just plain weird.

Maybe it is just the language barrier. Or maybe it is a difference in cultures? Who knows?

The one common thread here is "Fan on the Field".

This time it happened in soccer. In Montenegro to be exact. The match: Budcnost vs. Lovcen. Somehow, a Budcnost fan, dressed in makeup and jersey, gets on the field, shakes security and somehow ends up in the team's huddle before a free kick.

Watch as the dude lines it up, and drills it. He then, in true soccer fashion, runs off the field sliding to his knees, celebrating as though committed a god-like act.

STL CVC to Rams: No thanks on your renovation play

((ht: stltoday.com))
Rams proposal/Ctsy: hks sports/stl.com

Well, that didn't take very long.

The St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission at least did take a look at the Rams proposal for an overhaul of the Edward Jones Dome.

They looked at the extravagant plan that the city believes will cost in the neighborhood of $700 million and said "Uh...no thanks".

The Rams plan was a counter to the CVC's plan, which came in at a more modest $124 million estimate.

Oh...and apparently if the two sides don't agree on the renovation, it heads to an arbitrator after June 15th.

Read the St. Louis Post-Dispatch story RIGHT HERE

Folks, this one may get ugly.

The Rams are pushing hard because of a clause in their lease with the dome that states it has to be a "Top" facility in multiple categories by 2015. And no, nobody knows exactly what that means.

As much as we tend to lean optimistic on these type of deals getting done, we're a bit more skeptical here. Both sides are VERY far apart. And we get the CVC's concern over losing business while the place is closed for the work.

And since we don't live in STL, we don't know how much booking is done there during the off-season.

We also know there are multiple parties in a certain large, NFL-less city out West who are anxiously monitoring this. And they should be.

As many of you know, we've stated that any "New" or "Major" renovation to a perfectly good stadium is a waste of money. Unless you are an NFL owner trying to maximize revenue.

If they do come to an agreement on renovation, expect that the good people of St. Louis to pay a lot more money to buy tickets. We think the team will be better in the upcoming years and thusly, attendance will grow. And much like other teams around the NFL, the Rams owners will continue to price out people who can't afford tickets.

The question we have is, if they do a "Major" renovation, where does the team play while the work is being done?

And yes, if there is an "In-House" favorite franchise to be moved, this would be the one.

In Case You Missed it: Revenge of the Thunder

You kind of knew it was coming. And the game, well, it was never really close.

The Oklahoma City Thunder woke up Thursday night. They took advantage of their youth, their speed and most importantly their home court, routing the San Antonio Spurs 102-82 tightening up their Western Conference finals series.

The Spurs still lead 2 games to 1 and there is no need for them to panic.

Sure, they lost their 1st game in the NBA playoffs, but you knew something like this was going to happen. And considering the experience of the Spurs, they probably will shrug this off.

Kevin Durant had 22 points, but the star of the game was Thabo Sefolosha, who not only covered Spurs point guard Tony Parker, he put up 19 points his ownself.

Really, there isn't much more to say here, this was one of those "It is what it is games" and don't read as much into it as our friends on ESPN will.

Game 4 is Saturday night in OKC.
