FSU Tailback Wilder jailed for probation violation

Apparently Florida State rising sophomore tailback James Wilder Jr. now has more brushes with the law then TD's.

We say this after Wilder turned himself in for failing a breathalyzer test during his stint at a Leon County Work Camp. Wilder was participating in the camp as part of his punishment for an April arrest on charges of resisting an officer.

That misdemeanor offense cost him 9 days at the camp and 6 months of probation.

It sounds like young Mr. Wilder needs to learn a bit of responsibility. While his attorney sloughs the whole thing off, the behavior doesn't really speak too well for his client.

Wilder was modestly successful last year for the Seminoles and may be counted on more this season.

Schilling: Baseball Money "Probably All Gone"

((HT: MyFoxBoston))

Curt Schilling broke his silence on the collapse of his video game business, 38 Studios, on WEEI-AM's "Dennis and Callahan" show this morning...

And it wasn't pretty from Schilling...

Schilling also said that he thinks that Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee's comments when all this hit the fan last month harmed 38 Studios as it tried to stay in business.

38 Studios filed for bankruptcy protection on June 7th. It had been lured to Rhode Island from Massachusetts in 2010 after Rhode Island offered a $75 million loan guarantee. Schilling laid off 300 employees in the two offices in Rhode Island and Baltimore and has taken a leave of absence from his work at ESPN. 38 Studios finances are currently being investigated by the Feds and Citizens Bank is looking to get back a loan of over $2-million from him.

The HQ knows this is far from over...

When Your Hurt, Momma Is Always There. Just Ask Kevin Durant

After the Oklahoma City Thunder lost game five of the NBA Finals to the Miami Heat Kevin Durant poured out his emotions in the arms of his mother.

Losing his first NBA Finals was tough for OKC's franchise player to swallow.

“It's going to hurt a little bit.” Kevin Durant said after Game 5.  “We've got to move past it.”

In Case You Missed It: LeBron Gets His Ring, Heat NBA Champions

The world is a much better place today, LeBron James finally has his NBA Championship.  I hope you are enjoying the 4-letter’s gavel-to-gavel coverage of this truly great moment in NBA history according to them.

Now with a championship ring the greatness of LeBron James can’t be debated.  Five more rings and he matches Michael Jordan, greatness for my generation.  Good luck matching Bill Russell’s 11 rings
Pardon the sarcastic tone but as much as we appreciate LeBron James’ game the fact that he was anointed the “chosen one” from the time he was in high school with his accomplishments and failures magnified to the n’th degree since turning pro has been nauseating.
Such is life in the hyper media age.
Here’s Dwayne Wade and LeBron James talking to the assembled press after winning the NBA title. (Thanks Fox Sports Florida)

Texas Tech threatens to cancel game rather than appear on Longhorn Network

((ht: redraidersports.com))

Wow! Just when you thought the hubub over the University of Texas's Longhorn Network had subsided, there is this.

A report on RedRaiderSports.com today says that Texas Tech is threatening to cancel their game with Texas State because they are under the impression ESPN is going to broadcast the game on the Longhorn Network.

The cancellation would give the Red Raiders 11 games instead of the 12 that most teams play. And they can do that if they choose.

Read the RedRaiderSports.com story RIGHT HERE

This...is...well, pretty funny.

We kind of get the point Texas Tech is trying to make here. We can't criticize it. But they also need to remember that ESPN, the creators of the "Longhorn Network" now controls pretty much all of college football. And especially the Big 12 (Who are only 10)

The guess is that others will follow in Tech's footsteps and it begs a few questions. The biggest being where the 4-Letter (ESPN) is going to put all of their programming?

They paid millions...and in some cases billions to get the rights to pretty much all the BCS Conferences, but there are only ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Classic and ESPN News to put them on right now. Somebody is going to get shuffled out. The Big 12 is competing with the SEC, ACC and Big 10 for TV space.

The Big 10 at least has their own network for overflow games and ESPN has subcontracted the SEC Games and ACC games to Fox Sports South.  ESPN went into partnership with Raycom for regional ACC games.

But they aren't on any school's network. And no competing school in their right mind wants to be on another competitors network. We totally get that.

So what will happen here? Either option A--ESPN finds another home for the broadcast or B---Tech follows through. In the crowded landscape that is college football, we don't know if a lot of people will notice. And right now, we couldn't tell you at this point which way this will go....

David Ortiz and Red Sox: Not having fun anymore (Video)

Hmmm.

Interesting.

Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz said Thursday, before the teams game with the Miami Marlins that "He's not having fun anymore" and there is "Too much *!$& going on" surrounding the team.

Listen as he describes his thoughts about the circus that life with the Boston Red Sox has now apparently become.

This raises a couple of interesting questions? Is it that ugly in the clubhouse? Is Ortiz right? Or are they just tired of dealing with all the "Issues" raised by "Anonymous" reports?

If "Big Papi" is right, yeah, we sure could see why he'd want out too.

Sandusky Trial: It's in the Jury's Hands Now (UPDATE: Sandusky's Son Says He Was Abused)

Jerry Sandusky
You could almost hear the lyrics of the Semisonic song "Closing Time" echoing in the Bellfonte, PA courtroom on Thursday morning.

The reason: Simple. Both the defense...and the prosecution got to present their closing arguments in the trial of former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky.

And if you've been following the case, the arguments went exactly the way you figured that they would.

Defense attorney Joe Amendola, batting leadoff tried to paint the whole thing as a "Consipiracy" and a "Rush to Judgement". He tried very hard to emphasize that the whole issue was spun off of Victim #1. He claimed that Victim #1 exaggerated his claims and that investigators fed off of that and began trying to figure out ways to get others to buy into the story.

Uh huh...yes Joe, you must be right. 8 other victims came forward and all the investigators decided "Oh...Jerry Sanudusky is a public figure. We can charge him with all this stuff and as a result we'll get paid off." Sure...they all conspired to throw all these allegations at a "Former" football coach who had been out of the limelight for what...10-years? And while not poor, was certainly not a multi-millionaire.

Sorry, Joe, while you spent a couple days asking people if Jerry was a good guy and concocting conspiracy theories, you never did ask anybody if these things happened.

Part of your plan? Did you forget?

No, it was the only defense you had. And yeah, we get that you had to go all-in there. It's just really sad that you have to try in make all these people look like they are really evil in doing it.

As for Prosecutor Joseph McGettigan. His case was simple, straightforward and a carbon copy of his opening statement.

He spent a few minutes making a mockery of the defense assertions and also talked at length about having to explain to these victims they were going to be called liars. McGettigan spoke about how each victim had challenges...and fears to overcome by talking about this. And how it affected them.

And really, that is the whole point. Sexual molestation by someone in a position of authority is not something anyone is going to willingly jump in and admit to. Nobody is going to casually accuse someone else of this for financial gain.

Because once they put it out there, it's a stigma they have to live with the rest of their lives. That, at its root, is the reason that such acts are crimes.

Jerry Sandusky can make all the cries for help he wants. He, to this day, hasn't denied having contact with these kids. And having contact in ways that might be considered inappropriate. Think about it. Many of us are former athletes...and because of that, are aware of "community" showers. But never....NEVER, did a coach willingly walk into said shower and start trying to "Clean" any kids off. There is NO world/universe where that would be appropriate.

None.

A defense attorney can say he thinks the victimes all conspired against his client. He can say that the stories had holes. He can say the timelines may be slightly off. He can even say that some details may not be exactly perfect.

But he can't say why anyone would make up such horrific stories. Why would anybody put themselves thru that? How could you live with the stigma that is attached?

No, we think this case will be over with pretty soon. Even in Central Pennsylvania with a primarily Penn State jury, this should be done within the next couple of days.

So stay tuned.

PM UPDATE: Jerry Sandusky's adopted son, Matt, has come forward and said that he was also abused by his father in a statement released by his lawyers. He was prepared to come forward as a witness in the event that Jerry Sandusky himself was to testify. Matt would have been there as part of the prosecution's tack of refuting his father's statements.

"Matt Sandusky, one of Jerry Sandusky's adopted children, asked us to confirm with you the accuracy of this morning's news reports indicating that he was prepared to testify truthfully as a Commonwealth witness," attorneys Andrew Shubin and Justine Andronici said in a statement. " During the trial, Matt Sandusky contacted us and requested our advice and assistance in arranging a meeting with prosecutors to disclose for the first time in this case that he is a victim of Jerry Sandusky's abuse.

"At Matt's request, we immediately arranged a meeting between him and the prosecutors and investigators. This has been an extremely painful experience for Matt and he has asked us to convey his request that the media respect his privacy. There will be no further comment at this time."

Matt Sandusky had previously denied being abused by his father.
