Scott Wright is a native to Oklahoma City, and has covered sports for The Oklahoman newspaper for eight years. But he has never had to cover an event like what has happened over the last few days in Oklahoma City and Moore.
There are three high schools in the Moore area, and the tornado has had a horrible impact on one of the football squads...
19 players on the Southmoore High team are now having to deal with homes lost and lives torn apart...
From Wright's piece:
Southmoore senior Jake Spradling didn't need to see the destruction Monday afternoon to know his home had been hit.
“Once I heard that it hit the Warren Theater, I knew my house was gone,” he said. “I live right across the street from the hospital that was hit.
“I haven't been able to get in there to see it yet, but my dad has. I've only seen some photos. All that's left of our house is a bathroom and a closet.”
Head coach Jeff Brickman's wife is the cheerleading coach at the school and they still have no idea about the full numbers of affected players and cheerleaders yet. But the Southmoore football booster club decided to set up the team's website, www.GoSaberCats.com, to accept financial donations.
The site can accept funds via PayPal, or people can write checks directly to the booster club by mailing it to the school.
The HQ is asking for you to find a way to help... doesn't matter how...
Just do it...

El Nino= 21st Century Fuzzy Zoeller
((HT: CNNSI))
Sergio Garcia was thinking he was funny when, in reality, he was channeling the past...
And being incredibly unfunny...
Still seething after what he thought was a breach of golf etiquette at the Players's Championship, was asked at a European Tour function if he would be inviting Woods to dinner during next month's U.S. Open.
"We'll have him 'round every night," Garcia said. "We will serve fried chicken."
It was stale material... 16 year-old stale material...
When asked about it the second time, Garcia said that "my answer was totally stupid and out of place. I feel sick about it."
Here's the original...
Tiger tweeted out this in response:
"The comment that was made wasn't silly. It was wrong, hurtful and clearly inappropriate.
"I'm confident that there is real regret that the remark was made.
"The Players ended nearly two weeks ago and it's long past time to move on and talk about golf."
Of course, Garcia feels sick about it... because he got caught...

Jose Canseco Returns To United League
And he'll play against his brother, Ozzie, who is managing the team in Edinburg, the Roadrunners...
He's signed a 7-game deal with the Fort Worth Cats and play in the United League Thursday...
It's not the first time he played in the UL. He was in Laredo a few years ago...
Jose is reunited with Cats manager Jim Essian, who played with Oakland when Jose was a call-up...
The background... from the Fort Worth Cats:
"Jose was a young invitee to the A’s training camp, and I was a catcher at the time,” said Essian. “The second I saw the young Jose swing a bat, I knew he would be a special player. I immediately asked the coaching staff if he would be heading north with us.”
“I am excited to come to Fort Worth and mentor the young ballplayers,” exclaimed Canseco. “I love Dallas/Fort Worth and I can’t wait to go up against Ozzie.”

Man City + Yankees= MLS NYC2
((HT: MLS Soccer))
We now have the possibility of a darby between Red Bulls and NYC2 with the Yankees now in a partnership with Manchester City's ownership group for the 20th Major League Soccer franchise- starting in 2015.
Here's the Soccer Don talking about it...
The team could play in the new Yankee Stadium until their proposed new soccer-specific stadium in Queens is completed... "This is not a marketing gimmick," Man City chief executive Ferran Soriano said in a conference call. "This is about developing a team that will play very good football and will have a chance to win."
And there is an idea that the NYC2 franchise could be a feeder team for Manchester City itself as the team evolves.
And, now, attention turns to the recently-retired David Beckham and where he puts the 21st franchise...

Reports: ESPN Mass Layoffs: "To Meet Profit Margins"
![]() |
| ESPN Should Fire This Guy Instead |
God bless corporate america. The only place in the world where it's not enough to make money, you have to increase your profit margin each year...or you are considered a failure.
And we wonder why the rich get richer...
Anyway.....
Deadspin and other outlets report ESPN, your Entertainment and Sports Programming leader is taking a deep ax to personnel today. And while not confirming numbers, it's believed to be in the 100's for a company of 7,000.
This on the heels of signing Paul Finebaum, beginning and laying out cash for the SEC Network and securing the rights to the U.S Tennis Open for 50% more than previous rights holder CBS was paying for it.
Oh, and did we add they aer about to debut a new $125 million new set?
ESPN did confirm layoffs to Deadspin, the report RIGHT HERE
And no, right wing friends, it's not about the number of layoffs being minimal. Companies aren't obligated to keep what they consider a bloated staff, no, we get that and yeah, it is their right.
The issue we have with this is good people being sent to the unemployment line while the CEO's and Executive's line their pockets with BONUS money for meeting a "Profit Margin".
We are often critical of the 4-Letter and we believe its with good reason. They've managed to swallow up the rights to almost every major sport and have convinced a uniformed majority of the public that they are IT when it comes to Sports Journalism.
They aren't. This is a Network that sold their souls to people like Skip Bayless and endless alienated many viewers with non-stop coverage of Tim Tebow. This is a network that values what they call debate and what the rest of us in the TV business calls trolling.
And they still roll on. And the executives will still get their bonuses for meeting budget.
Paul Finebaum Resurfaces at ESPN
((ht: onlinewsj.com))So, the voice of the common Alabamian in football has a new home.
And no, it's lot on the local airways in Birmingham.
The guy who a few years ago, we didn't know who he was, is now going big time. Yes, that's right, Paul Finebaum will now be an ESPN personality.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Finebaum will take his show to Charlotte, North Carolina where he'll host a show on ESPN radio.
In addition, his deal provides him 100 TV appearances on the network and his radio show appearing as a Video Simulcast on the SEC Network.
Guess that answers one question about the SEC Network's programming.
Read more from the Wall Street Journal RIGHT HERE
Yes, we confess, some 3-years ago, we had no earthly idea who Finebaum was after stumbling upon a story where he claimed Georgia coach Mark Richt would be imminently fired. By the way, it never happened.
For those unfamiliar, Finebaum plays very hard and well to the SEC and in particular Alabama football fans sometimes irrational and aggravating, non-stop obsession with everything football.
And that is who ESPN is trying to target.
We can't say we'll tune into Finebaum's show, we still consider him a bit of a blowhard who randomly floats rumors, but then again, that's what plays these days.paul f
