DEVELOPING: Two Hernandez Associates Charged With Murder

((HT: MyFoxBoston))

Two associates of Aaron Hernandez have been indicted in the Odin Lloyd murder from 2013 according to the Bristol County (MA) District Attorney's Office. A grand jury returned separate murder indictments on both Carlos Ortiz and Ernest Wallace- who have been the focus of the prosecution's efforts in getting someone allegedly involved in the Lloyd murder/Hernandez case

Both men will be arraigned on the charges, but a date has not been set for them to appear in court.

Wallace has previously pleaded not guilty to "accessory to murder after the fact" and is being held on $500,000 cash bail.
Ortiz has also pleaded not guilty to "accessory after the fact" and is being held on the same amount.

Aaron Hernandez is being held without bail in connection with the murder of the 27-year-old semi-professional football player's death.

Ortiz had been previously regarded by the prosecution as "unreliable" as a witness for the prosecution back in February after the state thought that they could have him as their star witness...

Hernandez Cousin Tanya Singleton Posts Bail

((HT: My Fox Boston))

An FYI to add to your files...

A cousin of former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, Tanya Singleton, finally posted on a $15,000 cash bail (with conditions including wearing a GPS monitor) after being in jail since August. She has pleaded not guilty to charges of "criminal contempt" and "conspiracy to commit accessory after the fact."

Prosecutors charged her with contempt for refusing to testify before a grand jury despite being given immunity for her testimony. The conspiracy charge alleges she aided two Hernandez associates who have pleaded not guilty to accessory to murder after the fact.

One of those incidents was allegedly helping an associate of Hernandez's, Ernest Wallace, leave Massachusetts before he was found by police in Florida. It is also alleged that Singleton talked to Carlos Ortiz, another friend of Hernandez's, about fleeing to Puerto Rico and she allegedly paid for a cell phone for Wallace when he left the state...

Here's the story at the time of her bail hearing in August...

Singleton's next court appearance is set for February 27th.

Hernandez Fiancee, Family, And Associate Indicted

((HT: MyFoxBoston))

Remember our old friend "reasonable doubt...?"

Well, he was reintroduced when Ernest Wallace decided during his bail hearing yesterday that it was only Aaron Hernandez that exited the car when Odin Lloyd was allegedly murdered in June. Wallace originally said it was Hernandez and Carlos Ortiz that exited the car when Lloyd was shot and killed.

So, today Fall River (MA) authorities brought charges on Hernandez's girlfriend/fiancee, Shayanna Jenkins, was indicted on a single charge of perjury in connection to the murder investigation.

From My Fox Boston:

In August, the Hartford Courant reported investigators searched a storage unit in Connecticut rented to Jenkins because they believed she made "overt attempts to hide evidence" as well as to "hinder and mislead" the murder investigation. The newspaper reports surveillance video, text messages between Jenkins and her sister, as well as an interview with her sister, are all referenced in the documents as officials suggest Jenkins may have information regarding what happened to the handgun used in the shooting.

According to court documents, Jenkins was reportedly seen on surveillance video carrying a plastic bag believed to contain a "rigid object" from Hernandez's home and placing it into a car one day after Odin Lloyd was found dead. She returned to the home nearly a half hour later without the trash bag.

One of Jenkins' uncles told investigators Jenkins handed him and another uncle a cell phone and Hernandez asked for all of the weapons to be removed from the couple's North Attleborough home. The uncle claims the weapons were discarded "into the woods."

Jenkins was indicted at the same time the grand jury voted to indict Hernandez's cousin, Tanya Singleton, on a charge of conspiracy to commit accessory after the fact. Investigators say Ernest Wallace, who is charged with accessory to murder after the fact, told Singleton about the fatal shooting. She was held after refusing to testify before the Hernandez grand jury.

Carlos Ortiz had also previously pleaded not guilty to a gun charge in connection to the case after cooperating with investigators. A plea deal fell apart and Ortiz was indicted on a charge of accessory to murder after the fact as well today...

Here's the story...

Prosecutors: Carlos Ortiz Changes Testimony In Hernandez Case

((HT: MyFoxBoston))

And is now making it extremely interesting... and, maybe, extremely difficult to make a clean conviction...

The words "reasonable doubt" are now in play...

During the Ernest Wallace bail hearing, it was made clear that alleged Aaron Hernandez co-conspirator Carlos Ortiz is now saying that only Hernandez exited the car at the scene of Odin Lloyd's murder. Originally, Ortiz said both Hernandez and Wallace exited the car.

Prosecutors claimed Wallace told Hernandez's cousin, Tanya Singleton, about the Lloyd murder, and Singleton was jailed for refusing to testify before a grand jury investigating Odin Lloyd's murder. Investigators also allege a portion of a text message between Hernandez and Lloyd took place on Wallace's phone.

Wallace's attorneys maintained that their client should have had a bail lower than $500,000 because he was charged with accessory and not an actual murder charge. The judge ruled Wallace should continue to be held on $500,000 bail.

Hernandez Investigation Turns To Fiancee

((HT: WHDH-TV))

The Hartford Courant is coming out with a story that now has another layer to the Aaron Hernandez murder investigation...

The investigation is now shifting to Hernandez's girlfriend-fiancee, Shayanna Jenkins...

Police have searched a storage locker in Connecticut leased in her name and paid for with Aaron Hernandez’s credit card. Nothing was taken from the locker, but police will probably return at some point in their investigation...

Investigators refer to surveillance video form inside Hernandez's home, text messages, and an interview with Shayanna's sister, Shaneah, that give them the feel that Jenkins may have had knowledge of what happened to the gun used in the murder of Odin Lloyd.

From Jenny Wilson's article:

According to the records, June 18 footage from the home shows Shayanna Jenkins leaving the basement of the house around 1:15 p.m., carrying a trash bag, which authorities say contains a heavy "rigid object," resembling a lock box or safe. She placed the trash bag in the trunk of a red Nissan Sentra. Surveillance footage showed her returning 35 minutes later and opening the trunk of the car, which no longer held the trash bag and "rigid object," the records show.

The day after Odin Lloyd’s body was found, surveillance video reportedly captured Jenkins leaving the home she shares with Hernandez and their child carrying a trash bag. Authorities said it looked like it contained hard container like a lock box or safe.

Police found a .22 in a wooded area blocks away from the Hernandez house. They think the .22 was the gun that Hernandez's accomplices- Ernest Wallace and Carlos Ortiz- were seen carrying the night of the murder.

Here's the story from WBZ-TV

Jenkins has yet to be charged in any aspect of the investigation. And conventional wisdom is that Jenkins will be used to twist Hernandez to incriminate him and keep her out of jail...

Hernandez Search Day 5: No Gun, But More Accusations

((HT: MyFoxBoston)) On day five of searching Pine Lake in Bristol, Connecticut local authorities still haven't found the gun that supposedly killed Odin Lloyd, but new court records released by the Attleboro (MA) District Court maintain that one of Aaron Hernandez's alleged accomplices saw the former Pats tight end put guns in a box in his basement after returning from the industrial park where Odin Lloyd was killed. Carlos Ortiz told investigators Hernandez put firearms in a black box after Odin Lloyd was killed- one, a small gun Ortiz handed Hernandez after they returned to Hernandez's home. The other Ortiz called a "large handgun." Here's your wrap on Day Five ((HT: WFSB-TV)) WFSB 3 Connecticut Admittedly, the HQ would have made fun of the letter that TMZSports got where Hernandez said not to put the letter that he wrote to a fan on social media and that everyone will eventually find out his innocence. But, really, it's too easy... Enjoy it anyway...

DEVELOPING: Police Searching Connecticut Lake For Hernandez Weapon

((HT: WFSB-TV))

Police in Aaron Hernandez's home town of Bristol, Connecticut are searching a local lake/pond for a weapon that may be connected to the Hernandez murder investigation.

In addition to Connecticut officials, Massachusetts State Police and officials with the Bristol County (CT) District Attorney's Office are also at the scene to assist.

The .45-caliber pistol that police believe was used to kill Odin Lloyd has not been found, but authorities believe that a .45 can be seen in Hernandez's hand from stills in recent surveillance video from his home the night of the Lloyd shooting.

Pine Lake/Malone's Pond is near the house owned by Hernandez's uncle, where the Ernest Wallace and Carlos Ortiz- Hernandez's alleged co-conspirators- are thought to have driven after the Lloyd shooting. Police executed another search warrant there recently.

The apartment complex where police found the Chrysler 300 driven by Wallace before his arrest is also near the lake/pond.

Hernandez Warrants Released In Murder Investigation, Ortiz Allegedly Told Who Did It

((HT: MyFoxBoston))

156 pages of warrants and information on them were released today in the Aaron Hernandez investigation...

Biggest non-surprise is the behavior or Hernandez in the investigation...

Investigators said that Hernandez became "argumentative" toward them when he was first being questioned and that his behavior "did not indicate any concern for the death of any person." The documents also say Hernandez told his girlfriend-now-fiancee, Shayanna Jenkins, that his agent didn't want her talking to investigators.

Hernandez also talked with Odin Lloyd via text and wanted to know if they "were still on" the night of the murder

Here's the morning live shot...

Carlos Ortiz was denied bond today in another development. In Massachusetts, defendants who are thought of as a "danger to the community" may be held without bail for 90 days.

The third defendant in the case, Ernest Wallace- who is facing an accessory-after-the-fact charge- pleaded not guilty. He will be held without bail until another hearing on July 22, under an agreement between his attorney and prosecutors.

Also, Ortiz is quoted as telling police that Wallace told him the day after the shooting that Hernandez admitted to killing Lloyd.

Wallace Denied Bond, Lloyd Remembered In North Attleboro

((HT: MyFoxBoston))

The third individual arrested in the murder of Odin Lloyd, Ernest Wallace, was denied bond in Florida after his arrest in the town of Miramar. Wallace was being held at Broward County Main Jail and was planning on waiving any hurdle preventing his extradition back to Massachusetts.

Wallace turned himself in and is accused of being an accessory after the fact in the murder of Odin Lloyd. Bristol County (MA) District Attorney Sam Sutter says he believes all three men who were in the car with Aaron Hernandez at the time of Lloyd's murder are now in custody.

Meanwhile, in the town where Lloyd was murdered, he was remembered at a memorial service by his family and fellow teammates.

Third Man in Hernandez Murder Case Wanted By Police (UPDATED: Chrysler Car Located, Wallace Arrested)

((HT: MyFoxBoston))

There are now "Wanted" posters up as Massachusetts State Police are looking for Ernest Wallace, 41, who is wanted for accessory after the fact of the murder of 27-year-old semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd. Wallace is considered to be armed and dangerous and, according to SB Nation's James Dator, has outstanding felony warrants in Massachusetts. Dator also lists Wallace as 44 years of age.

The poster says Wallace is considered armed and dangerous and could be found in as many as five states. He was last seen driving a silver or gray Chrysler 300 with R.I. license number 451-375. This was the vehicle police have been looking for since the morning after the murder.

Wallace is believed to be a Bristol, Connecticut resident.

Police arrested Carlos Ortiz late Wednesday. Ortiz is seen in video from the Hernandez home carrying a weapon a few hours after the murder of Lloyd. Ortiz is set to be arraigned in Attleboro (MA) District Court charged with one court of carrying firearm without a license.

Boston police are now involved in the investigation seeing if there are any links to a double homicide in July 2012. Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado were murdered in what was, by all accounts, a drive-by shooting on a Boston street after a confrontation in a night club. The shooters were linked to a car with a Rhode Island license plate. Adam Schefter relays the information that Hernandez was responsible for renting the red SUV involved in the shooting...

Here's Fox Boston's coverage as police returned to his home overnight...
Boston News, Weather, Sports | FOX 25 | MyFoxBoston

The Boston Globe's Brian Ballou and John R. Ellement give the details in the possible link:

The killings were a mystery until the murder of Lloyd, according to two law enforcement sources briefed on the Boston murders. Hernandez, according to Bristol prosecutors, hatched a plan to kill Lloyd after he was seen talking with some people he had “troubles with,” at a Boston nightclub on June 14, and later summoned two allies with a text saying “you can’t trust anyone.’’

Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley declined to comment on specifics of the investigation, but he said that the case, once cold, has become more “robust” recently.

1415 UPDATE: Ortiz has been extradited to Massachusetts and it appears that North Attleboro (MA) police and the Bristol County (MA) district attorney's office said a 2012 Chrysler 300 they were looking for had been found. But it is not clear as to whether Ernest Wallace is now in custody.

DEVELOPING: Hernandez Catching It From All Sides Now (Link To Previous Murders?)

((HT: Reuters))

Connecticut state officials have arrested a man in connection with the murder investigation implicating ex-NFL player Aaron Hernandez...

New Britain (CT) State's Attorney Brian Preleski says Carlos Ortiz was charged as a "fugitive from justice" and has waived extradition to Massachusetts. Ortiz is being held on $1.5 million bail at a jail in Hartford, Connecticut.

Ortiz is scheduled to return to court on July 23rd.

Ortiz was arrested in Hernandez's hometown of Bristol, Connecticut. The arrest came as prosecutors and Bristol police were helping Massachusetts authorities in the investigation of the shooting death of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd.

Investigators are also looking into Aaron Hernandez as a possible suspect in a double murder from July of 2012 in downtown Boston.

"Since last week, the Bristol Police Department and the New Britain State's Attorney's office have, at request of authorities in Massachusetts, been assisting in their investigation into the facts and circumstances surrounding the homicide of Odin Lloyd," the statement from the DA's office said. "Both the Bristol Police Department and the New Britain State's Attorney's Office will continue to provide whatever assistance we can in connection with this investigation. As the investigation is ongoing, we can have no further comment at this time."

Also, from our friends at MyFoxBoston:

According to the Boston Police blog from that date, officers responded to the intersection of Shawmut Avenue and Herald Street just after 2 a.m. When they arrived, they found three people had been shot, two fatally, as they sat in a car at a traffic light.

The men were identified as Safiro Furtado and Daniel Abreu. The FOX 25 source said the men, who worked at a cleaning company in Dorchester, had just left a bar in the area.

Furtado and Abreu were sitting in the front seat of the vehicle when witnesses said the occupants of a gray or silver SUV with Rhode Island plates opened fire on it. The surviving victim was in the back seat. Investigators believed two others in the car fled the scene.

The source said investigators were looking into Aaron Hernandez's connection to the killing.
