Ohio St QB Barrett Being Investigated by Police in Dispute

((ht: buckeyextra.dispatch.com))

Well, it's never a good thing to have to report on an athlete being investigated by police. And while injured Ohio State QB J.T Barrett has yet to be charged with anything, he is being investigated and the evidence doesn't sound so good.

Police were called to Barrett's apartment Tuesday night after 9-1-1 calls from both him and his ex-girlfriend. Needless to say, the two accounts of what was going on differed a bit.

Barrett's call was him basically saying he wanted his 19-year old ex-girlfriend out of his house. While her call she claimed she had a domestic violence account. She said Barrett choked her and threw her across the room and that she was pregnant.

Barrett apparently told police later in the evening that she ran at him, pushed and swung at him and he just pushed her away.

Uh oh...

We hope this is much ado about nothing. Barrett was a revelation to the Buckeyes this football season. But this does not sound very good.

With the attention given to domestic violence issues, if indeed Barrett did what he is accused of by his ex-girlfriend, he's in a lot of trouble. And he should be.

But the investigation is not compete.

The Columbus Dispatch has the 9-1-1 Calls. Listen and decide for yourself...

OSG High: Sayreville High FB Season Cancelled Amid Bullying Scandal

((HT: NJ.com/Stanmyre))

The HQ is (at the same time) disgusted, not surprised, and pretty pissed at what seems to be going down at Sayreville High In New Jersey at present.

The football team has won three titles in the last four years- but they won't win one this season since the school superintendent suspended the rest of their schedule (and the schedules of the middle school and junior varsity squads as well) after an investigation found:

"there was enough evidence to substantiate there were incidents of harassment, intimidation and bullying that took place on a pervasive level, on a wide-scale level, and at a level in which the players knew, tolerated and in general accepted."

Here's the latest from the high school

So we have alleged hazing that was out of control and, in a separate investigation, a coach resigned amid allegations of steroid possession.

Nice...

The investigation is ongoing and Sayreville's coaches and other school personnel are being told not to comment on a matter that is under review.

What Is The Latest With USC's Josh Shaw, Anyway...???

((HT: MyFoxLA))

The University of Southern California is now investigating the story that senior co-captain Josh Shaw stuck by on Sunday and Monday claiming that he got his high ankle sprains from springing out a window to rescue his nephew from a possible drowning.

The school started getting phone calls that conflicted with the story Shaw has been relaying to the media.

Instead of what Shaw initially said being the only version, police are telling an additional story about someone that could be Shaw and a sticky situation with a girlfriend:

From the LA Times article from Gary Klein...

Meantime, the Los Angeles Police Department said Shaw's name came up in a report filed by officers who responded to a call about a woman heard screaming at the Orsini Apartments at 505 N. Figueroa St. on Saturday night.

Lt. Andrew Neiman, a department spokesman, said officers forced entry into one apartment but found no one inside. They then interviewed witnesses at the apartments who reported seeing a man scampering across third-floor balconies and provided a general description of the individual. Later, as officers were talking to a woman, “She responded to a description with words to the effect, 'That sounds like my boyfriend, Josh Shaw,' ” Neiman said.

Another police source said the woman added that Shaw was out to dinner with friends.

Here's Gigi Graciette on campus with sound from head coach Steve Sarkisian

Southern Cal is treating Shaw's story as solid at present, but they are investigating on their own.

Razorbacks QB's Truck Possibly Torched

((HT: KFSM-TV))

The Chevy Avalanche pick-up Razorback back-up QB Brandon Allen drives was burned very early Monday morning. The incident is being investigated as an arson...

The car alarm was going off outside Allen's apartment and he apparently went outside to see it burning, drifting backwards, and roling into a ditch.

Head football coach Bret Bielema, at his weekly press conference, said Allen is fine, and that the school is letting local police handle the case. Bielema also said that Allen will not be speaking publicly about the case.

Strangely, Allen's truck was not the only car fire in Fayetteville early Monday morning...

Here's the story of a burned group of cars...

2 Longhorns Footballers Suspended After Sexual Assault Charges

((HT: KVUE-TV))

The HQ doesn't really post these stories, but the alleged mental slowness angle is the reason we're posting the story.

Two Texas Longhorns wide receivers, Kendall Sanders and Montrel Meander, are now both charged with sexual assault and out on personal recognizance bonds. Head coach Charlie Strong has suspended the two players pending the resolution of the case.

So, what's the reason we're posting this story...???

Sanders is also facing an improper photography charge.

Translation: The two players allegedly assaulted a campus acquaintance, but one of the two apparently took pictures.

Campus police are investigating the charge that Meander's room was the location of the alleged assault. The report says that Meander and the woman who eventually went to police had consensual sex before Sanders entered the room and allegedly began assaulting her.

Meander, then, allegedly joined in the assault.

Ryan Autullo, Brian Davis and Tony Plohetski of the Austin American-Statesman covering the story went to UTPD chief of police David Carter press conference this afternoon. Carter said investigators confiscated Meander's and Sanders' cell phones through a search warrant. Carter didn't say if there was any evidence inside them or not.

Here's the live shot from outside the jail
Texas DB Quandre Diggs on his Twitter account was less than pleased: "It's a shame when people piss away great opportunities, God has given us all tremendous blessings." That seems to be the prevailing opinion among teammates right now... Head coach Charlie Strong released a statement on the arrest: "We've been monitoring and addressing the situation with Kendall (Sanders) and Montrel (Meander) since it was brought to our attention. It's been made clear to everyone on our team that treating women with respect is one of our core values, and I'm extremely disappointed that two young men in our program have been accused of not doing that. With the recent charges against them, they have been suspended indefinitely from our football team and will no longer participate in any team functions."
The on-campus investigation should take a few weeks.

Schilling's 38 Studios In Deep Doo-Doo Again

((HT: WPRI-TV))

Curt Schilling's video game business, 38 Studios, got a sweet deal from the state of Rhode Island to headquarter its business there- and, since the company went belly up, it appears the state is on the hook for (up to) $90-million of public funds.

There is now a boatload of public debate as to whether or not the money may even show up on coffers as Rhode Island may go ahead and default on the loans.

Now, the current Speaker, Nicolas Mattielo and his fellow members of state government may ALL be questioned by Rhode Island state police to see if there was any kind of muscling to approve the funds in the first place.

According to WPRI-TV, there is evidence of unregistered lobbying on behalf of 38 Studios.

From Boston.com's monitoring of the case:

But a contract uncovered by WRPI showed that 38 Studios had agreed to pay $300,000 per year to an associate of the state’s former House Speaker, Gordon Fox, to work with government agencies and officials.

WPRI also has an interview in their Target12 unit that says 38 Studios registered no one even though former R.I. Economic Development Corporation (EDC) executive director Keith Stokes publicly acknowledged a $125-million loan-guarantee program was created in part to benefit the company, and even though 38 Studios insiders repeatedly contacted state officials, first to secure taxpayer-backed funding and later to request tax credits.

What's the phrase about a duck...???

Here's an interview with the attorney, Michael Corso, who is close to former Rhode Island House Speaker Gordon Fox. Corso helped put together the 38 Studios deal that looks like it will be in debate for a long time to see if the state will stay on the hook.

You get court-stormings and all that on a regular basis... and the students at Vandegrift beat Wiley High School, they decided that they wanted to celebrate.

Georgetown (TX) police office George Bermudez is at the bottom of the screen tripping kids to keep them from storming...

DEVELOPING: Boston PD Bomb Squad Tipping Backpacks At Marathon Finish Line (UPDATED W/Arrest And Contents)

((HT: MyFoxBoston/WHDH-TV's Sarah S. French's Instagram via Trenni Kusnierek))

Providence Police Investigating Possible Sexual Assault By 2 PC Players

((HT: WJAR-TV Providence))

Providence police are investigating an allegation that two (then) Providence College basketball players sexually assaulted another student on campus. Providence College knew about the alleged incident in November, but the complaint was filed with local police only two weeks ago.

At that time of the original filing, the school suspended Rodney Bullock and Brandon Austin for "not upholding their responsibilities as student-athletes." Bullock has stayed with PC, but has been suspended all season. Austin, on the other hand, transferred to Oregon. Neither athlete has been questioned by police yet...

Providence College isn't allowed to notify police of a sexual assault- which seems odd at the least. PC has conducted an internal investigation, but hasn't said what their discoveries are...

And they're not really responding in any in-depth manner...

"In November, we were informed of an incident involving two student-athletes on the men's basketball team. In this situation and all cases like it, our response was immediate and in compliance with our long-standing disciplinary process," the school said in a statement to WJAR-TV.

U. Of Ottawa Suspends Hockey Program After Sex Probe

((HT: Sportsnet))

The University of Ottawa suspended its men’s varsity hockey program over allegations several players were involved in an alleged sexual assault about a month ago during a road trip.

The Thunder Bay, Ontario PD is in their initial investigation and aren't really answering any questions. The University of Ottawa says it decided to suspend the hockey team after receiving information from a third party about a week ago. The university has also launched an internal review.

Head coach Real Paiement is listed as being on leave.

Here's the announcement of the suspension...
((HT: Ottawa Citizen))

It's not the only investigation going on campus at present...

Another group of U of Ottawa male students are under investigation for some racy language involving an online conversation about a female student union leader, Anne-Marie Roy. Roy caught wind of the Facebook chat, posted it, and is calling the situation on the University campus a "rape culture."

This can't end well...

OSG High: Florida LB Arrested For Sex With Cousin

((HT: WPTV/West Palm Beach))

The HQ is unsure as to the proper adjective to describe the situation in Fort Pierce, Florida...

Sharieff Inuka Rhaheed-Muhammad was a star linebacker at Central High School who has signed a letter of intent to play college football at Louisville.

But... and this is a big but...

He was arrested recently for impregnating his cousin and was charged on a felony of lewd lascivious behavior. The victim was apparently having sex with Rhaheed-Muhammad between the ages of 12 to 16- having been touched inappropriately for the first time at age 11. The victim even went as far to say that the sex wasn't forced when it began.

It was determined, as part of a four month investigation by Fort Pierce police, that it was with "greater than 99.99 percent probability" Rhaheed-Muhammad fathered a child with the girl when she was 14. She later had an abortion once her mother administered a pregnancy test.

Here's the early story after Rhaheed-Muhammad was released from the juvenile detention facility in Fort Pierce...

Louisville is aware... and head coach Bobby Petrino released a statement: “Coach Bobby Petrino is aware of the situation."
The school isn't saying anything else...

The even-more odd part is that the family of the cousin has signed a prosecution waiver- meaning that they don't want to prosecute Rhaheed-Muhammad...

So, what emotion fits here...??? Disgust is a good start...

Mizzou Finally Looking Into 2010 Rape Allegations

((HT: KOMU-TV))

The University of Missouri system will now look into allegations centering around a 2010 sexual assault of swimmer Sasha Menu Courey- possibly by one or more members of the football team at the time...

System President Tim Wolfe released a statement after an ESPN report that said in part:

"In light of the ESPN "Outside The Lines" report that questioned the response of our Columbia campus to an alleged sexual assault of a former MU student athlete who also suffered from severe mental illness, I want to address the questions raised with all of you and ask for your immediate assistance and support. I am asking the board of curators to hire outside independent counsel to conduct an investigation of MU's handling of matters related to Ms. Courey."

OTL published a story that claims the university did not tell law enforcement about the alleged rape of Courey despite administrators finding out about the alleged incident more than a year ago.

Menu Courey committed suicide in 2011.
Here's the local coverage...

In addition to any retroactive investigating by state officials on any possible negligence in not pursuing the Courey case, the Missouri system could also face an inquiry by the Office of Civil Rights...

And the HQ is looking forward to this investigation...

Warrant: Hernandez "May Have" Been Shooter In Double Murder

((HT: MyFoxBoston))

We have detailed the incidents in and around the double murder-drive by killing of Safiro Hurtado and Daniel Abreu in July 2012 as they left a Boston nightclub.

Recent video has surfaced from a nearby nightclub from the one that the two were seen in before they left a year-and-a-half ago and an SUV that resembles one Aaron Hernandez possessed was circling the block waiting for the Furtado-Abreu vehicle before the murder.

Now, the new warrant that has been made public believes that gunshot residue "may still exist" inside the vehicle. Prosecutors are still weighing the idea of adding murder charges in that case as well to the Odin Lloyd case that is the center of the Hernandez investigation at present...

Ted Daniel stays on the new developments...

DEVELOPING: Winston Accuser Attorney Blasts Investigation

Surprising no one, really...

Patricia Carroll, the attorney in the Jameis Winston rape case, held her own press conference this morning and understandably ripped the state attorney's office...

Her largest point of concern is in medical records released to the press, claiming they were intentionally redacted, though the family's copy includes more evidence of a rape- 2 pages in particular

"They are significantly different," she said. "There is no reason why the state would redact the injuries of the victim … There is no reason this would be redacted. In fact, I specifically requested (non-redacted) documents."

Carroll also went after Tallahassee police for allegedly only obtaining search warrants on the victim rather than on Winston. Carroll also went after state's attorney Willie Meggs and wants the state Attorney General Pam Bondi to hold an independent investigation of her own.

Carroll still backs her client and the assertion that she was raped, and there is no word yet from Bondi on whether she will pursue from her office...

More when we know more...

Charlotte Cop Fired 12 Shots At Ex-FAMU Player, Hit Him 10 Times

((HT: NBC Charlotte))

Charlotte police officer Randall Kerrick fired his gun 12 times at an unarmed Jonathan Ferrell- hitting him 10 times. Ferrell is a former Florida A&M football player who was shot and killed by Kerrick while Kerrick was seeking help after a car accident Saturday.

The investigation by the Charlotte PD showed Kerrick did not have "a lawful right to discharge his weapon during this encounter."

As police are reconstructing what they think happened that led up to the shooting, current investigations yield that police think Ferrell had wrecked his car, and then was knocking on a house near the crash to try and get help. The woman in the home called police to report she thought a man was trying to break in to her home.

Police encountered Ferrell about a block away. An officer shot and killed him, and police said Ferrell was even running towards the officers at the scene at the time that the weapon was discharged. Kerrick was then charged with voluntary manslaughter, and he made bail late Saturday night.

"The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department reiterates that this is a very unfortunate incident and it has devastated a family as well as caused a great deal of sadness and anxiety in our organization," CMPD spokeswoman Jessica Wallin said in a statement.

Here's the first report...
Ferrell's family spoke today in Charlotte and gave their testimonial... ((HT: CharlotteObserver.com)) Family attorney, Christopher Chestnut, told the assembled media at the presser: "We’re planning to get answers,” he said. “If that requires a lawsuit, then we will.” From the Charlotte Observer article from Wootson and Lyttle: Police released an incident report Monday that shows that after the shooting, Kerrick said he had been assaulted. The report said he received minor injuries, but refused medical attention. It does not indicate who assaulted him. But many questions remain, including the positions of Ferrell and the officers, whether the officers shouted commands and a detailed timeline of events. Police also have explained why the Taser was unsuccessful. Police have not released the 911 recording or any video from the scene.

Anarchy In The NASL- Cops, Ejections, And A Draw (VIDEO)

Odds are... this game will be under review at the league office very quickly after its conclusion...

37th minute... FC Edmonton's Lance Laing scores off a free kick and it sets off the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers coaching staff...
The Eddies were given a second chance at the free kick because of the windy conditions in Alberta...even after they made contact with the ball... (calmer moments are pictured right, thanks Tony Lewis/Ft Lauderdale Strikers Facebook page)

As a result, both head coach Gunter Kronsteiner and goalkeeper coach Ricardo Lopes along with midfielder Walter Restrepo were escorted away by the local constabulary. Trainer Jennifer Milos was the only one left not in uniform. But the cops weren't done...

58th minute, the Strikers get the equalizer and the locals were trying to get the coaches kicked out of the building as they were viewing the match from the stands and, apparently, sending instructions down to the sidelines via cell phone.

The game ended as a 1-1 draw with all of the sendoffs and such...
No word on whether or not Milos gets the credit for the draw at present...

Until the video trickles out of Edmonton, here's highlights of the Strikers last match against San Antonio...
((HT: FTL Strikers))

UPDATE: Here's the game in full, thanks to the NASL their own selves...
The incident starts around the 47:00 mark...

OSG High: Police Investigating Helmet Bashing During HS Football Game

((HT: WGAL-TV))

The only way to describe this is selfish and ugly...

In a Pennsylvania high school football game Friday night, one player took the helmet off another in a scrum and decided to try and beat his opponent with it...

In the game between Hamburg and Annville-Cleona, you see a Hamburg player striking an Annville-Cleona player with a helmet (what looks like)...

Hamburg's Joey Cominsky and Annville-Cleona's Tyler Prentice were ejected, and South Annville (PA) police are considering filing charges.

Here's the report from the incident Friday night where Cominsky takes off Josh Hartman's helmet and tries to smash his skull in with it...

Here's the statement from District 3:

Please note that District 3 will not conduct a hearing tomorrow (Wednesday) into the incident that occurred during Friday's football game between Hamburg and Annville-Cleona.

Although District 3 has the authority to request information from member schools on a number of matters, it has chosen not to ask either school to appear at this time.

The matter is currently being handled by both schools. If either school requests a hearing on the matter, District 3 will make a determination at that time and alert the media and general public as to the status of the matter.

The fact that District 3 has chosen not to take any steps at this time does not preclude action by the district at a future date if the committee feels such action is warranted.

The District 3 Committee will meet Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. at the Mountain Laurel Conference Center behind the Hotel Hershey; it is a regularly scheduled meeting. Media and the public are welcome to attend.

Which, I'm sure, they most certainly will... even if no one talks about it...
