NPSL Week 9 West Region Review/Preview

Golden Gates Conference

Three teams for two spots in the playoff picture...

Sonoma County, Sacramento, and CD Aguiluchos are looking to advance with a few weeks left and the margin is 7 among the three (23, 19, and 16). The Sol shut out San Francisco Stompers 4-0 and get Aguiluchos next- as they had the weekend off. Sacramento had Real San Jose on the schedule. Sacramento get San Fran this weekend.

Real San Jose, three points clear of the cellar, have the weekend off.

Northwest Conference

Spartans Futbol Club added another 8 goals to their coffers with an 8-1 win over Inter United FC. Spartans point total is now 31 and the goal difference is plus-34. Gorge FC shocked the conference with a 5-1 win at home against Seattle Sporting FC- good enough for their first win of the season.

This week, Spartans go to Seattle and Gorge host Inter. With another win, Gorge (5 points) can catch Inter United in the ladder.

Here's a look at Sporting's win over Inter United on Father's Day
((HT: Seattle Sporting FC))

Southwest Conference

This is a battle for second...

Looks like FC Force have a chance of finishing with 40 regular season points if they beat San Diego Flash on the road this weekend. FC Hasental held Force to a 1-1 draw to put their point total at 28. Temecula FC tied Flash at threes to keep them at 28 as well.

Temecula host FC Santa Clarita and Del Rey City go to Hasental.

The Quails have been interesting as of late- at 13 points coming into the weekend.
Here's highlights of their 6-1 win over Del Rey City

NPSL Western Region Week 7 Review/Preview

Golden Gates Conference

A logjam...

Three teams separated by four points- Sacramento, Sonoma County, and CD Aguiluchos (20, 19, and 16). Real San Jose are fourth at 11 points with the San Francisco Stompers last with 8.

Sacramento had the week off, but they host San Jose this weekend. Sonoma drew RSJ last week and they will host San Francisco. CD Aguiluchos beat San Fran last week and they're the ones who get the week off this time around.

Northwest Conference

Still Spartans Futbol Club running away with it- a 2-1 win over Gorge FC gives them 28 points and they host Inter United FC who are third. Seattle Sporting FC beat Inter last week and they travel to Gorge this time. Sporting are ten points back in second. Inter have 8 points on the season and Gorge have only 2.

Southwest Conference

This is one of the most competitive conferences in the league this season...

But, it's looking more and more like FC Force will take it- having pulled 12 wins out of their first 13 matches. They have a 9-point advantage over both San Diego Flash and FC Hasental.

Force blew out FC Santa Clarita 5-3 last week and travel to third-place Hasental this week.

But the biggest news came from Hasental's 2-1 win over Flash to draw square at 27 points. This offsides call kept the Flash off the board late and kept all three points with FCH.
((HT: SD Diego))

Here are the highlights in full
((HT: San Diego Flash their own selves))

And, thanks to FOSG "BSP" for the link to the Hasental highlights

Now, the math...

The Flash has won 2 of the 3 matches this season against Hasental, but have less wins. Hasental will face league leader FC Force and finish the season against winless Del Rey City. The Flash travel to FC Temecula and finish the season at home against FC Force.

Temecula blew out Del Rey City 6-1 to distance themselves from FC Santa Clarita (12 points to 7) and this week, FCSC and Del Rey will battle at the bottom of the table.

NPSL West Week 3 Review/Preview

Golden Gates Conference

It's two halves- the two teams up top and the three teams below...

Sacramento and Sonoma County are three points apart, but Sonoma actually beat the gold last week to draw closer, 19-16. CD Aguiluchos knocked off Real San Jose 3-1 to move to third with 10 points. San Francisco Stompers are fourth with 8 and RSJ are last one point back.

This week, Sonoma County have to sit while Sacramento play CDA. Real San Jose and San Francisco battle it out at the bottom of the table.

Northwest Conference

It's still Spartans Football Club and everybody else. 8 games, 8 wins, 30 goals scored and a GD of plus-26. Seattle Sporting FC is safely in second with 13 points. inter united and Gorge FC are a distant third and fourth. Last week, Spartans beat Inter 2-0 and Seattle put 6 on Gorge FC.

This week, it's one versus two and three versus four: Spartans host Seattle and Inter United host Gorge

Southwest Conference

FC Force still only have the one blemish on the record at 9-0-1 and are four points clear of San Diego Flash. The Flash have to consider every game a must-win to the end of the season to keep in step with Force and stay ahead of FC Hasental.

The Flash beat FC Santa Clarita last week, 12-0
Nathan Medina led the way with 4 goals and Alessardo Canale had a hat trick

Hasental put five on the board in their win over Temecula, 5-3

This week, Force host Temecula. Del Rey City, still looking for their first win, host San Diego. Santa Clarita hosts Hasental.

NPSL This Week: July 5th, 2013

Let's start out West...

Northern Division looks like it's going to be Sonoma County and Sacramento advancing. A win over San Francisco won't help the Gold's position and Sonoma gets CD Aguiluchos- all this will be is for points and pride before the post-season...

In the South, it comes down to a game between San Diego and FC Santa Clarita for the second playoff spot...
Whoever wins is in and whoever loses goes on vacation...

A win last week by FC Hasental kept the two tied at the hip...
Here's a talk with Milan "The Godfather" Radovic before the FCSC game...
((HT: FC Hasental their ownselves))

Midwest Section

Central Division has three teams for two spots with two weeks left. Quad City, Milwaukee, and Madison are all within five points of each other. Quad City enters a brutal four game-eight day stretch- at Eau Claire and home to Madison this weekend. The Bavarians, currently four points in arrears, are off until Wednesday. But they'll have three games in five days and Madison plays three matches in six days starting Sunday.

Great Lakes Division

It's Detroit City FC with the division title- undefeated through ten games with two road contests left this weekend- AFC Cleveland and FC Buffalo. Buffalo and Erie are three points apart with the Wolves having a game in hand- this weekend is at Zanesville and DCFC in town.

FCB spent some time on the WNLO-TV Morning Show...

South Section

Mid-Atlantic Division

One thing we do know is RVA advances as the winner. DCUnited needs a win over CASL Elite to tie Myrtle Beach on points. But the Mutiny would get the second spot on goal differential...
((HT: WMBF-TV))

South Central Division

It's Tulsa and Liverpool... that we know... they play each other for points Saturday at Liverpool...
And the Athletics, too, got some time on a local morning show...
((HT: Fox 23 Tulsa))

South East Division

Three teams, two spots...

Chattanooga and Gulfcoast are done, but if Rocket City wins hosting Knoxville, they could sneak into the second spot.
CFC clinched the division title with their 1-0 win over New Orleans
((HT: Mad Kemp))

Sunshine Division

Jacksonville United and the Georgia Revs are the 1-2. They each get their shot at Tampa this weekend...

Northeast Section

Atlantic Division

Four teams are still eligible for post-season and division as this division gets another crash course to get to the end of the season in one piece. The NY Red Bulls and the Brooklyn Italians are two points apart for the top. Red Bulls have four games in eight days- starting this weekend. The Italians have three games left- all at home- including a big one next weekend hosting Red Bulls. The NYAC and the Seacoast United Mariners need to win and win big the rest of the way to get into the picture, but they're not mathematically eliminated yet.

Keystone Division

It's looking more and more like three teams-two spots, but we'll know more after this weekend...

It's FC Lehigh Valley and FC Binghamton separated by a point and Junior Lone Star four points back in third. FCB has a game in hand over Lehigh Valley, but Lehigh Valley gets cellar dwelling Buxmont Torch to finish out their season.

Clarkstown and FC Hershey need to win out and need a lot of help to get in...

Player of the Week

The winner, for the week ending June 23th, is Chattanooga FC goalkeeper Gregory "Greggaa" Hartley.

Hartley has maintained a clean sheet at Finley Stadium all season. His most impressive performance came against the Gulf Coast Texans on June 22nd as he saved shot after shot despite CFC going down a man for part of the match.

The Manchester, England native was a star at Georgia Gwinnett College, where he was named to the 2012 NAIA Men’s All-East Region Team after posting 11 shutouts.

NPSL This Week: June 27, 2013

The biggest story for the past week is out west where the OC Pateadores season came to a screaming halt after the lack of a consistent pitch caused them to forfeit the remainder of their games and send the division into a sprint...

The short version from the guys over at Parlor City:

Hasental suddenly finds that they have clinched the division (and a playoff spot) while the the Flash find themselves in a situation where they almost have to win each of their remaining matches. Santa Clarita will be disappointed that they don’t have a shot at the title, but have less pressure than San Diego to win both of their remaining matches and still claim the last playoff spot.

And while San Diego Boca will also pick up a forfeit victory, the extra points really only mean that Boca might be able to finish second to last instead of last.

Las Vegas had their hands full with Hasental this past weekend...
Here's Gustavo Villalobos second of the day in he 5-1 win
((HT: FC Hasental))

And here are the goals from the Flash win over Boca last weekend... the 2-2 draw, as it turns out, really hurt their playoff chances...
((HT: SD Diego))

Northern Division

Up north, it's two groups... Sonoma and Sacramento are separated by four points while Real San Jose and CD Aguiluchos are separated by three. San Jose plays Sacramento for pride this weekend...

Midwest Division

Top two heading into the weekend are still Quad City and Milwaukee with Madison in third. The Eagles won the division by, really being idle. The Bavarians did what they needed to do by winning twice, but the 56ers could only manage a draw at Eau Claire. The four teams below the Quad play each other again this weekend round robin for points.

Great Lakes Division

Detroit City and FC Buffalo are 1-2 as Le Rouge locked up the division with a 4-0 win last weekend.
Here's the highlights, if you're a DCFC fan...
((HT: Detroit FC))

Lauren Brill did a piece this past week on playing for the Wolves...
((HT: WIVB-TV))

Erie plays twice and can close the gap to second by season's end. FC Sparta and AFC Cleveland play to figure out fourth and fifth with Zanesville in the cellar- their season finale against DCFC (the only undefeated team in the league).

Mid Atlantic Division

It's RVA and Myrtle Beach for the division at Sports Backers Stadium. Myrtle, simply, needs a road win for the win. They kept their title hopes alive with a 5-1 win over CASL Elite at Ashley Booth. Two days earlier, the Mutiny knocked off DC United to cap the six-point week.
((HT: MB Mutiny/WMBF-TV))

Chesterfield and DCU will fight for third and fourth with the Elite in last.

South Central

It's still Tulsa and Liverpool- even with the Wsrriors getting the draw on the road. The two on the top play the two Houston teams on the bottom to close out the regular season.

Southeast

It's three teams for two spots- Chattanooga, Rocket City, and Gulf Coast at 18, 16, and 14 points. CFC escaped the weekend back-to-backs with two draws. Here's the look at the Gulf Coast draw
((HT: Mad Kemp))

CFC hosts New Orleans this weekend, Gulf Coast hosts Rocket City, while Knoxville and Mississippi will fight for the cellar.

Sunshine Division

It's Jacksonville United and everyone else. Miami United and Tampa are tied with 8 points going into the last weekend. Tampa hosts Jacksonville and the Revs host Cape Coral for their season finale.

Atlantic Division

It's the Red Bulls with a five-point lead over the Brooklyn Italians and the Red Bulls take to the post-season not having a goal scored upon them. Rhode Island plays twice- against Brooklyn and third-place NYAC.

Keystone Division

This one should be fun...

Three teams for two slots- Greater Binghamton, Lehigh Valley, and Junior Lone Star. But, if Lone Star loses, they could finish fifth. Binghamton gets fifth place Hershey. LVU is at Pocono Snow, and Clarkstown hosts JLS. The bottom half of the ladder is FC Reading, Morris County, Pocono, and Buxmont Torch.

Player of The Week

The winner, for the week ending June 16th, is Rocket City United striker Khurram Shazad.

Shazad registered 4 goals and 1 assist in a 5-4 win over the Mississippi Storm on June 15th.

This performance set a team record for the most goals and most points in a single game. Since 2009, Rafa Barbosa had held that record. This is also the first time a Rocket City player has ever claimed National Player of the Week honors.

Shazad is also a member of the Young Harris College men's soccer team. The Halifax, England native has appeared in 37 matches for the Mountain Lions, scoring 12 goals and 10 assists.

NPSL This Week: June 20, 2013

Atlantic Division

Looks like it's still the Red Bulls and the Brooklyn Italians on top... in five games, the Red Bulls still haven't given up a goal. The two square off this weekend at NJIT on Saturday.

The four other squads are only separated by three points: The NYAC and the Seacoast Mariners play on Saturday as well. The Seacoast Phantoms take on NYAC on Sunday.

Keystone Division

Greater Binghamton has a three point lead on Hershey and four over Junior Lone Star. The next three teams have only two points apart while the bottom three are only two points apart as well. Binghamton can get more points on the board against Pocono Snow. Hershey takes on Clarkstown and Junior Lone Star takes on FC Reading.

Junior Lone Star tied Lehigh Valley, but that didn't sit well with one of the JLS wingers, @galileo87:

Refs are bound to make mistakes;its part of the human element (imperfection). But when they tend to override their conscience! It annoys me.

A shame that the battle between the "Haves" & "Have nots" has started disrupting the image of the Beautiful Game. Play fair, play beautiful.

This was in reference to our NPSL game yesterday. We will keep our heads up, loose no composure and we shall bounce back @juniorlonestar.

Discrimination and Bias will always exist; never judge all by the actions of few because two wrongs doesn't make the situation any righter.

Mid Atlantic Division

One of the more competitive division out there with the top four teams only three points out. RVA takes on Chesterfield, separated by two points. Myrtle Beach beat DC United Wednesday and get cellar dweller CASL Elite.

South Central

The blistering start of Tulsa Athletics has a seven-point lead over Liverpool with the two Houston franchises way back after 8 games have been played. Tulsa, who is right now at +24 in goal differential, hosts Liverpool this weekend.

Southeast Division

It's two halves: Chattanooga, Gulf Coast, and Rocket City are three points apart. Knoxville, New Orleans, and Jester City are the lower half- also separated by three. Chattanooga plays a home game with Gulf Coast and then travels for a Wednesday match with Rocket City. This may go a long way to sorting out the top.

A really cool thing happened with Chattanooga FC with their game last week. The team went pink for breast cancer in memory of local anchor Mary Ellen Locher, who was lost to the disease...

Matt Reakes explains why it was such a big deal...
((HT: Mad Kemp))

Here's a preview of Chattanooga FC and Gulf Coast...

New Orleans has two matches with Rocket City and Knoxville. Mississippi has the weekend off at the bottom of the table.

Sunshine Division

Jacksonville United has a four-point lead on the Georgia Revs with the Revs only two points clear of both Tampa and Miami. Jacksonville plays Miami, and the Revs get the weekend off. Tampa gets Cape Coral at home.

Central Division

Quad Cities is still in control with 22 points and get the weekend off. The next two, Milwaukee and Madison are two points apart. The Bavarians have a road trip with Minnesota and Eau Claire while Madison does the reverse. This weekend will go a long way to figuring out whether the division will get more condensed or pulled apart.

Great Lakes Division

Two distinct groups- Detroit City FC and FC Buffalo are 1-2 and three points apart. The Wolves get FC Sparta Michigan and a big Sunday matchup with Detroit City this weekend. Erie, in fourth, gets AFC Cleveland and Zanesville.

Detroit City had no problems last week with Zanesville, winning 4-0
((HT: Detroit City FC))

And here's the second half of the game last week where FC Buffalo FINALLY beat Erie, 1-0
((HT: wnymedia))

Northern California

Sonoma County and Sacramento are a point apart on top with Real San Jose five points back in third. CD Aguiluchos and San Francisco are fourth and fifth- they play each other this weekend. Sonoma gets San Jose and Sacramento has the weekend off.

Southern California

The other "most competitive" division with three teams separated by four points. FC Hasental beat San Diego on the road to move to 24 points. The Flash are now tied with Santa Clarita at 20. Orange County is at 17 points with Las Vegas and SD Boca at the bottom of the table.

The Flash take on Boca, Hasental take on Vegas, and Santa Clarita takes on OC...

Last week, Hasental stopped the Flash's unbeaten streak at seven games. Here's the game winner by Manuel Cazares
((HT: FC Hasental))

Player of the Week

The winner, for the week ending June 9th, is Zanesville Athletic defender/midfielder Smart Osadolor.

Osadolor has been one of Zanesville Athletic's most consistent performers this season. Last weekend Osadolor was moved from his usual left back spot to left midfielder. He responded with two goals and an assist for the weekend, helping Zanesville to its first-ever point in a 2-2 draw with FC Sparta Michigan on June 9th.

Hailing from Glasgow, Scotland, Osadolor comes to ZAFC from Tiffin University, where he will be a sophomore in the fall.
