Just when you thought you have seen it all in college football Youngstown State brings you the "Butt Punt"
Penguin punter Joey Cejundo tried a rugby punt and it went so wrong and Jacob Wood got the point of the football right up the anal cavity.
By the way Illinois won the game 28-17.

Bruce Weber to K-State: Yeah, thought so
((kcstar.com))
Well, you can say this about the athletic administrators at Kansas State, they didn't waste a lot of time replacing fired head coach Frank Martin. In fact they are going to announce the new guy late Saturday afternoon.
It appears the new hoops coach in Manhattan, Kansas is going to be deposed Illinois coach Bruce Weber. If you are surprised to hear that, you can add your name to a rather lengthy list.
Weber takes over the Wildcat program after his Illinois team lost 11 of their last 13 games this season after a 6-1 start and multiple reports that he had "Lost" his team.
More on the hire from the KCStar RIGHT HERE
Yeah, we're scratching our heads too. Perhaps K-State didn't think they could do better. And they may have been right. The question is more...how hard did they look.
This isn't a total slam on Weber who had modest success in Champaign, but even the K-State players are apparently miffed at the move. They heard the stories of Weber's shortcomings. They, along with many others are wondering why they didn't try an up-and-comer from a small school or a top-flight assistant. But they didn't.
And for that, we wish them all the luck in the world.

Illinois Finds Their Man, Hires John Groce As New Hoops Coach
Every year a surprising run by a mid-major in the NCAA Tournament turns that program's head coach into a hot commodity.
This year Ohio made a run to the regional semifinals and took North Carolina into overtime. That helped Bobcat head coach John Groce who caught the attention of the University of Illinois who happened to have an opening.
Thursday Groce was introduced as the new head coach of the Illini and the Danville, Indiana native who was born and bred on Big 10 basketball was thrilled.
"For me, when I mean once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, that's exactly what I meant." Groce said and a press conference Thursday. "I looked at it and said I'm a little different than everybody else. This is the first and only job that I interviewed for since I've been at Ohio."
Here's a one-on-one interview with the new Fighting Illini leader. (WAND-TV Springfield, IL)
One very important aspect of being the head coach at Illinois is recruiting the city of Chicago successfully. It was the secret to Lou Henson's great success during the "Flying Illini" days of the 1980's. Chicago talent was the cornerstone of Henson's 1989 Final Four team.
Groce won't be a stranger in Chicago.
"I understand how important that area is." Groce said. "We have previously established relationships that are going to be important."

OSG Bowling: Your 5-Game Wrap- Atlanta, SanFran, Memphis, El Paso, Houston
First, Vandy was in their first big "Baby Bowl" in a long time since the days of Whit Taylor- a Liberty Bowl berth against a higher-powered Cincinnati team...
Nice effort as Coach James Franklin gets things moving...
At the 3:20 mark...
((HT: WREG-TV))
Utah was trailing Georgia Tech by 14 with a little over 6 Minutes to go in the Sun Bowl in El Paso. Someone forgot to tell the Utes John White IV. They converted on a 4th and 14 to tie the game and send it into overtime before knocking off the Yellow Jackets.
((HT: ABC4 Salt Lake City))
In Houston, there was a nice touch before the Texas Bowl where the crowd paid tribute to "Joey V"- Texas A&M lineman Joey Villavisencio. Northwestern hadn't won a bowl game in 63 years, and head coach Pat Fitzgerald, literally, had the players carry aroud a stuffed monkey for symbolism the whole week long.
A&M actually held a halftime lead for a change and won 33-22.
((HT: KBTX-TV))
Auburn fans wondered where the Barrett Trotter that showed up to the Georgia Dome to play Virginia. He was lead blocker for Onterrio McCalebb, scrambled for his life for positive yardage, and actually did this...
((HT: ESPN/SEC/culpe010))
Auburn won 43-24 with McCalebb's 109 yards and matched Kiehl Frazier's 2 rushing TD's with 2 of his own. Both teams finish 8-5.
And, finally, UCLA finished the year 6-8 after a loss in the Pac-12 title game, getting a waiver, and losing to a team who lost 6 in a row going in- and almost had 4 coaches boycott over a contract dispute.
Go Illinois... and take the Bruins with you...
But the best part of the game was pretty gross...
An Illinois ball boy was digging and, maybe, found something...

DEVEOPING: Zook, Porter, and Calloway Fired- Silly Season Begins (UPDATED WITH Gill)
Not that any of the three leaving are a surprise...
Illinois has dispensed of Coach Redacted after a good start and a 6-6 finish. There was even talk that Illinois would end up in a pre-Christmas bowl game playing TLB's squad in New Orleans.
The HQ points an extended index finger and laughs...
Seven seasons and going 34-51 will do that...
Larry Porter has been fired at Memphis after two seasons and going 3-21.
"We want to thank Coach Porter for his efforts as our football coach, but believe that it is in the best interest of our program to make a change at this point," said Memphis Athletic Director R.C. Johnson.
Here's Porter after the 44-0 loss to Southern Miss yesterday...
((HT: SIDMemphis))
And Mark Schlabach, through his Twitter feed, reveals no surprise as Neal Calloway was let go by UAB...
Here's Calloway's signature win from 2011- the upset of UCF...
((HT: UABAthletics))
The HQ anticipates RC Johnson spending bad money after good and hiring Houston Nutt to be the new head coach. Nutt will, then in turn, bring in Calloway and Ted Roof as part of his staff.
1800 UPDATE: Add Kansas head coach Turner Gill to that list...
Turner Gill has been fired as the head football coach for the University of Kansas after two season and a 5-19 record, 10 of those in a row...
In a statement released on KUSports.com, Kansas Athletic Director Sheahon Zenger said “After a thorough evaluation of our football program, I have concluded that new leadership is necessary to place us on the path toward competing for championships in the Big 12 Conference. I come to this conclusion reluctantly, because I have the utmost respect for Turner Gill as a quality individual who wants only the best for the young men he coaches.”
According to kusports.com, he is still owed $6 million of his contract, which he will receive in the next 90 days. Recruiting coordinator Reggie Mitchell has been named the interim head coach.

Joe Pa Gets Win 409, Penn State Defeats Illinois
How appropriate that Penn State head coach Joe Paterno gets win 409 in a game staight from the old days. Cold, snow and a 10-7 outcome.
That win over the Fighting Illini gives Joe Pa 409 wins passing Grambling coaching legend Eddie Robinson as the NCAA's winningest coach on the Division I level.
Here's a creative game story for your enjoyment. (Thanks PSUfootball1)

Illinois Brown Suspended For Knee To Groin
Illinois linebacker Jonathan Brown has been suspended one game for a flagrant hit on a Northwestern player.
And "flagrant" is, certainly, one way to call it...
Brown kneed Wildcats offensive lineman Patrick Ward in the groin...
Right up the middle...
((HT: Big Ten Conference/ESPN/youtube))
"We are extremely disappointed by what happened on Saturday and Jonathan knows that," Illinois coach Ron Zook said in a statement. "We don't condone that type of behavior in our program. I've talked to Jonathan and he understands that. He is a good person, a spiritual person, and no one feels worse about it than him. But he got caught up in the moment, made a serious mistake and must deal with the consequences."
"I apologize to my family, my teammates and the Illinois fans for letting them down," Brown said in a statement just as prepared as Zook's. "I also would like to apologize to the Northwestern team for my actions. What I did was out of character and won't happen again."
And if you look at the video, Brown makes a point to look and see if an official is looking before he pops the Northwestern guy...
And he still got the penalty called on him...
