Jonathan Toews All Star Promo Video is Pure 80's Awesomeness

((ht: foxsports.com))

Oh boy....this is pure cheese and we love it.

Check out this promo video touting Chicago Blackhawks forward Jonathan Toews for this years NHL All-Star team.

Words cannot describe this one...so just watch in awe. Oh, and note teammate Patrick Kane on an elliptical trainer wearing a Loverboy style headband.

Kane And Toews Have A Dance Off

((HT: NHL.com))

The Chicago Blackhawks have a fan convention every year in the summer...

Think Dragon-Con for hockey fans...

Part of it is players reading mean tweets about themselves to fans and another part is a question-and-answer session. Part of it had to do with the new two contract guys- Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews- and it devolved from there...

Dancing...???

The HQ isn't sure you would call it that...

Kings And Blackhawks Go For A 5th Period In Game 5

The HQ had a feeling that the game would either be 13-11 (after the Montreal-Rangers street fight the night before) or was going to be a game where Corey Crawford and Jonathan Quick were going to be on their heads...

Actually it was a little of both...

The Kings were down 2-0 after four minutes and 3-1 in the second period. But the Blackhawks let them back in the game- not rattled by early returns- and went deep into the night with an unlikely hero.

Chantal McCabe talks us through the highlights
((HT: NHL.com))

The larger questions in America 6 Friday will be around the Hawks Patrick Kane and wondering if his Game 5 efforts were just a one-shot deal or not and will Corey Crawford still look a step late on some instances when the Kings have the puck in traffic.

Patrick Kane Scores Goal On Himself

((HT: Sportsnet))

Sometimes, pulling the goalie works for you...
Sometimes, it doesn't...

But this is the first time the HQ can remember it works against you by your own hand...

Thanks to Patrick Kane...
Chicago would win 5-3, so Kane escaped a loss- even if he didn't escape grief from his teammates...

ICYMI: Bergeron Out of Hospital After Blackhawks Beat Bruins (UPDATE: Boychuk Not Discplined)

Let's start with Saturday night---

Two goals by Patrick Kane and 24 saves by goalie Corey Crawford led the Chicago Blackhawks to the brink of the Stanley Cup Title late Saturday night.

The Hawks now lead the best of 7 series 3-1 and game 5 is Monday in Boston.

The game itself had some interesting stories. Perhaps the most significant is that of Boston forward Patrice Bergeron who left the game with an un-released injury. That injury however was serious enough that he was sent to a Chicago area hospital for observation.

Bergeron, according to the Bruins, has been released from the hospital and is expected to fly home with the team Sunday morning.

The other big story was Chicago center Jonathan Toews who did not play in the third period Saturday, after taking a hard hit from Boston defenseman Johnny Boychuk. Toews' injury was only described as "Upper Body." Boychuk will not be disclplined for the hit by the league

As most of you know, hockey players are notorious, particularly in the playoffs, for playing through almost any injury, and if we were into the whole betting thing, we'd bet on seeing both Bergeron and Toews Monday night.

Here are your Saturday night highlights: (Thanks NHL.com)

Original 6 Cup Final Set For Wednesday

((HT: NHL on NBCSN))

It'll be for the first time since 1979 that Original 6 teams square off in the Stanley Cup Final, but the defending champs didn't go without a fight.

In an elimination game, it took a moment like this from Mike Richards to send the game to free hockey...

It was the longest game in LA Kings franchise history and the injury list, once released by the team, could be the longest in team history.

Chicago and Boston will start at the Madhouse on Wednesday night...

Nothing like a hat trick for Patrick Kane- he scored more goals in a conference finals game than the entire Penguins team scored in a conference finals series...

Howzatforastat...???
And it also proves just how difficult it is for a team to be a successful defending champ...

Blackhawks Have a Little St. Patrick Kane Day Merriment

((ht: blackhawks tv))

Haha!

The Chicago Blackhawks and team captain Patrick Kane decided to have a little fun with some customers at the team store the other day.

Kane, playing himself, acted as the manager of the store unbeknownst to shoppers.

It was all a promotional stunt for the Illinois lottery, but it was fairly amusing. Heck, it's always funny seeing people react to famous people showing up and doing things you wouldn't expect.

And no, this wouldn't play so well in a non-hockey town.

Hawks Make It 22 With SO Win

((HT: NHL on NBC))

It always takes a different guy to make sure your team makes a run to a title...

Sometimes, it's a star... sometimes it's a guy off the end of the bench, sometimes it's someone who just showed up for a key moment when everyone thought all hope was lost...

This time for the Chicago Blackhawks, it was the first one...

Patrick Kane made it happen in the third so the team could go 19-0-3 to start the 2013 NHL season after taking out Detroit in the shootout...

Evidence below...

Now we wait...
Again...

Morning Links: It's not for breakfast anymore

Here's a few links for you to peruse as you drink your morning coffee:
Sam Hurd

We are guessing that Chicago Bears wide receiver Sam Hurd won't be participating in this Sunday's game  at home against the Seattle Seahawks.

The reason.

According to Federal Agents, Hurd tried to buy 5-10 kilos (not ounces) of cocaine and a half-ton of marijuana a week for distribution in the Chicago area at roughly $2.8 million a month. He'll be arraigned Friday afternoon and is currently being held in the Metropolitan Correction Center in the Chicago area.

Read the whole story from the Chicago Sun-Times RIGHT HERE

Needless to say, Hurd's teammates were aghast.

The investigation into the death of Indy car driver Dan Wheldon October 16th at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway has come to a conclusion.

The report says Wheldon suffered a "Non-Survivable Injury" when his head hit a vertical post on the tracks catch fence.

The report goes on to discuss in detail the conditions of the track and the driving that helped create the problem. It pays particular attention to the large grooves on the LV Motor Speedway track.

WISH-TV in Indianapolis gives us a TV Story on it:

In case you missed it: The atttention grabbing Milan Lucic got into another "Slobberknocker". This time he tangles with Matt Carkner of the Ottawa Senators.

And it wasn't bad as far as fights go.

Take a look: (Thanks hockeyfights.com)

Also...In case you missed it:

Patrick Kane, wunderkind and star of the Chicago Blackhawks gives us a lesson in how to score in a shootout. No, it wasn't an all-out rush/blitz on the goal tender with a ripping wrist shot.

Rather it was a slow-motion, deke-fest as he casually skates up, slides the puck back and forth before depositing it over Minnesota Wild goalie Niklas Backstrom's shoulder.

Game over.
