Reports: Paul Chryst to Get Wisconsin Job

((ht: jsonline.com))

It didn't take long for the University of Wisconsin to find someone to replace departed coach Gary Andersen. Andersen left Madison earlier this week to take the open coaching job at Oregon State.

Reports circulating out of Wisconsin say that soon-to-be former Pittsburgh Panthers head coach Paul Chryst has accepted the job.

Chryst has been at Pitt for the past three seasons with a 19-19 record, but the Panthers have shown great improvement each season.

It should be noted he is a Wisconsin grad and a long time Badgers assistant when the opportunity opened up in Pittsburgh. Armed with head coaching experience, he should be a good fit for the folks in Madison.

Here's the original story on the move from The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel

The move also opens up the Pittsburgh job. The Panthers are all in on the ACC at this point and it should be a fairly attractive opening for whomever takes it.

It should be noted that Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez posted the job just yesterday, the guess is he already had his man (Chryst) ready to roll.

((ht: footballscoop.com))

Yup, it's definitely the end of College Football training camp.

Coaches are doing wild, crazy and wacky things to keep their troops entertained, knowing that we are a week away from the beginning of the season.

Check out Wisconsin Badgers head coach Gary Andersen showing off on pool day with the MONSTER Belly Flop.

Yeah, he did it. Hope his team doesn't. Haha!

Marshall, Marshall, Marshall... Ole Miss Blows Up Brackets

((HT: CBSSports/NCAA/Turner))

And if your bracket was full before this game, odds are it's not in place now.

Tournament heel Marshall Henderson started out the game going 3-for-17 from the field, but Ole Miss went on a run and closed out Wisconsin 57-46. A lot of people (whoever "people" are- commonly confused with "conventional wisdom") think that Ole Miss out Wisconsined-Wisconsin...

If that makes any sense...

FOSG Beau Estes has the highlights

It's the Rebels first tournament win since 2002, but it's the first time in four years that three of the four #12-seeds advanced over their 5th-seeded counterparts...

They get the winner of Kansas State and LaSalle...

Shocker: Bielema leaves Wisconsin for Arkansas

Wow! Really didn't see this one coming.

It appears that the University of Arkansas is going to get a surprise football coaching hire after all.

Sources tell OSG Sports that the school has hired now former Wisconsin head coach Brett Bielema to replace the departed John L. Smith.

Bielema is coming off of one his worst seasons in Madison at 8-5, though they did win the Big 10 title game and will play in the Rose Bowl after annihilating Nebraska 70-21.

Bielema, an Iowa grad, had been the head coach at Wisconsin since 2006, his 1st head coaching job and has a 68-24 record.

Our Thoughts:

Preliminary reports seem to indicate most serious SEC writers and fans are laughing at the choice. Though we suspect Arkansas will trumpet this as the greatest move in coaching history.

Bielema has been a very traditional "Big 10" style, grind it out coach. That style has shown little to no success in most Big 10 vs. SEC match ups.

And while yes, the move is a bit of a surprise, we are quite curious to see how he does in a job where the school has incredibly high, albeit mostly unrealistic expectations. The Razorbacks have been a middle to upper middle SEC team, we aren't very sure that this hire will (a) excite the fanbase or (b) make the rest of the SEC concerned the Razorbacks are going to run them down.

3 Arrested In Montee Ball Assault Case

((HT: WISC-TV Madison))

Police have arrested three suspects in the assault on Wisconsin running back Montee Ball. Ball sustained a concussion when he was attacked by several men near campus August 1st. All three are listed as Wisconsin students- Wendell J. Venerable, Deonte J. Wilson and Robert A. Wilks.

They were all arrested on charges of "party to the crime of substantial battery."

Ball has said he had nothing to do with the fight on the 1st.

On Wilson's Facebook page he had posted a status update, according to WISC-TV. It read, in part, "I have been non-violent for well over a year now, yet they are trying to crucify me because somebody has to take the blame..."

Here's the run-down with Sarah Carlson...

Wiscosin RB Montee Ball attacked on street

The University of Wisconsin's best football player, Running Back Montee Ball was released from a Madison area hospital early Wednesday morning after apparently being attacked while walking down the street.

According to the school, Ball was treated for head injuries after 5 unknown men jumped him while walking down University Avenue near campus. The City of Madison Police reports says he was knocked down and kicked by the men, all last seen running towards the Kohl center on campus.

Police say the attack was unprovoked.

Reports say Ball was checked out at the hospital as a precaution but his injuries were not serious.

For those who don't know, Ball, a rising senior,  is considered a potential Heisman Candidate by many after a huge season last year where he scored 39 touchdowns, tying an NCAA record.
