Bison Busted. North Dakota State's 33 Game Winning Streak Ended By Northern Iowa 23-3

The law of averages finally caught up to the North Dakota State Bison.

NDSU's Football Championship Subdivision record 33 game winning streak died today at Northern Iowa as the Panthers defeated the Bison 23-3.




North Dakota State couldn't anything going in the UNI Dome.  The Bison totaled only 175 yards of total offense and held to their lowest point total since a 3-0 loss to Missouri State in the 2010 season finale.

Northern Iowa was led by running back David Johnson who rushed for 133 yards on 28 carries.

"This is really sweet," Johnson said.

Johnson will go do as one of the best running backs in UNI history.  During the game he surpassed the 1,000 yard mark for the third consecutive season becoming the first Panther back to do that.

Panther kicker Michael Schmadeke kicked three field goals of 43, 36 and 42 yards.

Northern Iowa head coach Mark Farley thanked the Panther fans.

OSG Buzzer Beater: Denver Holmes Is Evansville's Ace In Win Over Northern Iowa

Evansville's Denver Holmes hit a pair of three pointers including the game winner at the buzzer to give the Purple Aces a 63-62 win over Northern Iowa.

“It was a great play and a great pass,” Holmes said after the game. “I had a little too much muscle on it, but it banked in.”

Holmes finished with 14 points.

The win puts the Purple Aces at .500. 8-8 in the Missouri Valley Conference and 13-13 overall.

OSG Buzzer Beater: UNI's Anthony James Shoots Down #13 Creighton At The Buzzer

A great Missouri Valley Conference game Saturday in Cedar Falls, Iowa. #13 Creighton got all it could handle at UNI's McLeod Center and then some as the Panthers Anthony James nailed a 3 point shot at the buzzer for a 65-62 win.

James led Northern Iowa in scoring with 16 points, 14 coming in the second half.

National player of the year candidate Doug McDermott totaled 18 points, 12 rebounds.
