For twelve years, De la Salle High School didn't lose a football game...
151 in a row... and then, they lost...
The bigger story there is what happens when you lose and all the questions that go along with it- mental, physical, emotional, class, geography, place, and everything else associated with it.
Jim Caviezel, Michael Chiklis, and Laura Dern get the adult roles in the new movie coming out this football season (August 22nd) about the Spartans and their place in high school football lore...
Based on the Neil Hayes book, which the HQ has and has read and has in its collection, it centers around the time in 2004 when the streak came to an end, how the murder of Terrence Kelly, and the heart attack of Coach Ladouceur effected all associated with the Spartans program.
The message is about doing things the right way...
As it should be...

OSG High: HS Student Gives CPR To Ump During Game
((HT: WSB-TV))
Here's a really cool story...
And it also reminds us of the value of helping others...
A high school baseball umpire was having chest pains during a game and when those around were asking for help and others called 9-1-1, someone stepped in to help before the ambulances arrived...
A 16-year-old baseball player...

Rick Majerus Passes Away At 64
OSG Sports has learned that former Saint Louis head coach Rick Majerus has passed away. He stepped down from his post with Billikens a few months ago wanting to focus on his treatment for his heart condition.
Last season, Majerus led the Billikens to the third round of the NCAA Tournament, the school’s first NCAA appearance since 2000- getting the school's first win since 1998. Saint Louis was also in the polls for the first time since the 1994-95 season.
In mid-November, when it was announced that Majerus was stepping aside, AD Chris May said:
"Rick built this team to be in a position to compete for championships, and we will move forward with that same goal. We will continue to invest all of our resources to ensure that this team, under the leadership of interim head coach Jim Crews, is put in the best position possible to succeed.”
Former Majerus assistant Porter Moser, now at Loyola-Chicago, relayed this through his Twitter account:
RIP to my friend and mentor Coach Majerus. I learned so much about the game and life. We lost a One of the best! My heart is heavy tonight.
In the interim, here are some of Majerus' greatest hits from his time at SLU
Majerus’ moment on the big stage of college basketball was back in 1998 when his Utah team reached the NCAA final losing to Kentucky.
During the Utes Final Four run in 1998 I had a chance in interview Majerus at the NCAA West Sub-Regional in Boise, Idaho for an impromptu tough-n-cheek feature that involved good restaurants in Boise. He gave me five good minutes and was never afraid to show his sense of humor in front of a camera.

OSG High: SC Lineman Passes On Field During Game (UPDATE)
((HT: WLTX-TV Columbia))
Hartsville, South Carolina Mayor Mel Pennington says the police and fire chief confirmed 17-year-old high school student Ronald Rouse died on the football field last night. The 6'3" 305-pound, senior offensive lineman was holding his chest when he collapsed.
He had gotten some help from trainers on a play where he would, eventually, get up and get help off the field, but he collapsed again on the sidelines.
Rouse was given CPR and shocked with a defibrillator before the on-site ambulance took him to the hospital.
Hartsville and Crestwood played the rest of the first half. Hartsville was up 27-7, and the school went on with their homecoming festivities.
The players didn't return to the field for the second half, and Hartsville High Principal Charles Burry announced over the PA that the game was suspended because of concern over Rouse at the time.
Here's the early breaking news...
Mayor Pennington ordered flags be flown at half-staff, and asked Hartsville residents "to take a moment and ask God to be with this family, to help them find peace in this chaos, and to help this team deal with the grief and shock of losing a brother."
A preliminary autopsy should have some early answers later in the weekend.
PM UPDATE: The preliminary autopsy revealed that Rouse suffered from a sudden, irregular heartbeat due to an enlarged heart...

Jerry Lawler Has Heart Attack On "Raw"
There are a lot of cynics out there that think that what happened to "King" last night in Montreal was a work...
And there's basis in the thought...
Toward the end of WCCW's run in Dallas, Fritz von Erich had a "heart attack" in one of the most ill-conceived plot lines around. It was covered as an actual news story in Dallas, but it was a work...
Unknown to the public around Christmas of 1987...
Alex Marvez, from FoxSports, has some of the earlier facts from the WWE:
"Jerry 'The King' Lawler suffered a heart attack while commentating during last night's broadcast of Monday Night Raw in Montreal," the WWE said in its statement. "We are hopeful Jerry makes a full recovery and returns to WWE in the near future. Our thoughts are with Jerry and his family."
Jerry Lawler's ex-wife and ex-WWE performer Stacey "The Kat" Carter announced from her Twitter account (StaceyCarterKat) Tuesday morning: "Just got a @JerryLawler update. He had a stint & a balloon put in. Right now he is still heavily sedated. Will update when I know more."
Here's Lawler's heart attack last night...
((HT: Dennis miller))
Lawler has been in the business for the better part of the past 40 years, and the HQ is waiting for the next time he jumps off the middle turnbuckle, strap down, fist at the ready...

Muamba Retiring From Soccer After Heart Attack
It was, without question, one of the scarier moments of the football season past...
When Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba collapsed on the field after suffering a heart attack, the last five months have been a fight to see Fabrice get back to living a normal life- much less get back to the pitch.
So, understandably, five months after being declared dead for almost an hour, he has decided to hang up his cleats...
"Since suffering my heart attack and being discharged from hospital, I have remained utterly positive in the belief I could one day resume my playing career and play for Bolton Wanderers once again," Muamba said in a prepared statement on the Bolton website.
"As part of my on-going recovery, last week I travelled to Belgium to seek further medical advice from a leading cardiologist. But the news I received was obviously not what I had hoped it would be and it means I am now announcing my retirement from professional football."
Here's the incident...
((HT: EPL/youtube))
"We know that he will go on to achieve great things and within all this disappointment, the most important thing is that he is here, alive, today," Bolton manager Owen Coyle said.
Here's to Muamba's health from now on...

BREAKING: Morosini Collapses And Dies On Italian Pitch
And, as a result, all remaining Serie A and Serie B matches are postponed for the day...
Piermario Morosini collapsed and died on the pitch today during the Livorno-Pescara match...
Here are early reports, and yes, they're in Italian...
It is thought that Morosini suffered cardiac arrest and died despite constant attempts to revive him. There are reports that an ambulance's path to the pitch was obstructed by a police vehicle. That cannot be confirmed at present...

Muamba Effectively Dead For Over An Hour
((HT: ESPNUK/youtube))
The team physician for Bolton Wanderers has come forward and admitted that the reviving of Fabrice Muamba was for almost 50 minutes before getting to hospital and another 30 while there...
Jonanthan Tobin admits that Muamba was "effectively dead in that time..."
Here's the early part of the incident as it aired...
Muamba received 15 electric shocks at the stadium and another 12 before his body responded with a heart rhythm.
Here was report after referee Howard Webb abandoned the match...
At the London Chest Hospital, Muamba claims to feel fine and is responding to limited conversation. But he is, obviously far from a solid recovery timetable.
