Kanekoa Texeira was on his way out the door after giving up a bases-loaded walk that made a tight game between Gwinnett and Charlotte a little tighter...
But that didn't stop KT from dropping some of his gear along the way...
The HQ figures he didn't like the balls and strikes calls that were made against him while he was on the mound...
No word yet on whether or not Texeira got a fine from the league or his bosses over the jettisoning of his gear...

"That Is One Heck Of An Exit..."
((HT: Deadspin/Kevin Weinheimer))
This is the first time that the HQ has seen this after an ejection...
Last night, as Norfolk was playing Charlotte in triple-A, Quintin Berry for Norfolk gets a single to right, squares off with the first base umpire, and then completes his actions the only way a baseball player knows to at times...
No word from minor league baseball offices or the Tides themselves if anything else is happening to Berry after his creative display of eff-you to the guys dressed in black...

Was This The First Double Challenge Of The Season...???
((HT: MLB/MASN))
This falls into the chicken or the egg challenge and, the HQ thinks, it was the first double challenge of the season...
Was the runner out and did the run count...???
The Rangers are challenging the tag and the run scoring and the Nationals are challenging the tag and the run not scoring...
Got all that...???
Here's the stuff from the booth...

Laz Diaz Loves Him Some Laz Diaz
((HT: MLB/YES))
The Angels and the Yankees played a baseball game last night...
But the center of the game's universe seemed to be home plate umpire Laz Diaz- who loves him some Laz Diaz...
Especially if you question a balls and strikes call- or a lot of them...
Here's the call from Michael Kay
And ask Joe Girardi
Ah... umpires...

OSG High: HS Student Gives CPR To Ump During Game
((HT: WSB-TV))
Here's a really cool story...
And it also reminds us of the value of helping others...
A high school baseball umpire was having chest pains during a game and when those around were asking for help and others called 9-1-1, someone stepped in to help before the ambulances arrived...
A 16-year-old baseball player...

ICYMI: Umpire Grabs Manager by the Throat
((ht: gammonsdaily.com))
Well, this certainly elevates the notion of the baseball manager/umpire argument to a new level.
It appears that during a Chinese Professional Baseball League game the other night, an argument between a manager and umpire got a bit--"Out of Hand".
That's because after the manager bumped the ump, the ump responded by trying to choke the manager.
Certainly a unique response we must say.
Read more from the ever interesting (Peter) Gammonsdaily.com website RIGHT HERE
No names are listed in the story and the original video is labeled in Chinese which makes it a bit of a challenge to read.
But we did have a couple of questions: Like how is the American umpire the only apparent non-Chinese person there? And why did he react like he did?
We may never know the answer or even if anyone got suspended, but when you get to the 1:15 or so mark in the video, you'll see why we were fascinated:

A Defiant Tony Randazzo Gets A Call Wrong...
((HT: FSOhio/MLB))
Tony Randazzo is known for being big on the bravado...
Last night was no exception...
First, just watch the screw-up...
Here's how social mediaites went off on the play...
((HT: Storify.com/Cleveland Plain Dealer))
From Paul Hoynes story in the Plain Dealer:
"We're down one, facing the best closer in the history of the game," said Indians manager Terry Francona. "He doesn't need any help. You can get emotional sometimes and I just thought at that point Tony should have kept walking or either apologized to Mike, but everybody makes mistakes ..."
No early word on whether the offices in New York City will have either Randazzo's back or Francona's...

Umps Boof Pitching Change In Astros-Angels Game
((HT: CSN Houston/MLB))
If things couldn't get any worse for the pee-ahr of umpires these days, we now have this...
In the Angels-Astros game, manager Bo Porter wanted the pitcher who came in to the game, Wesley Wright, to stop throwing warm up pitches after he entered the game. Porter wanted to bring in Hector Ambriz when the Angels switched pinch-hitters in the on-deck circle.
The rule that applies is that Wright had to face a batter since he entered...
Mike Scioscia was hot about the pitching change and thought the rule was applied incorrectly and played the rest of the game under protest. Fortunately, for the halos, they score three runs and came from behind to win 6-5...
Here's the fiasco...
Crew chief Fieldin Culbreth had the sum total of a sentence to address the situation...
"Well, the only thing I can tell you is that all matters concerning protests are handled through the league office," he said.
Nice dodge...

Umps Can't Even Get It Right WITH Replay, A's Lose (VIDEO)
((HT: CSN California/MLB))
Let's face it...
The Oakland A's lost a game today because the umps fouled it up...
Evidence below involving Adam Rosales, replay, and a huge #umpfail
Justin Masterson got the win, Chris Perez collected his fifth save on the season...
Oakland is now 6-13 in their last 19 games...
And the fact it was Angel Hernandez makes it that much better...
Or worse...

When John Gibbons Is Right, He's Still Wrong...
((HT: Sportsnet))
So, when you want to challenge someone not challenging a play and you get ejected, you're still in the wrong...
Apparently, Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons went out to challenge a call that wasn't made by Yankees manager Joe Girardi and overturned, he was tossed last night.
Gibbons was right in line with Rule 9.02c:
The rule states: “If a decision is appealed, the umpire making the decision may ask another umpire for information before making a final decision. No umpire shall criticize, seek to reverse or interfere with another umpire’s decision unless asked to do so by the umpire making it.”
Here's Gibbons discussing with FOSG Jeff Blair...
Crew chief Jeff Kellogg can use a rule three sections down to cover the decision...which he probably did... Under rule 9.05, Major League Baseball lists a series of “General Instructions for Umpires” which includes the following: “The first requisite is to get decisions correctly. If in doubt don’t hesitate to consult your associate. “When the partner is certain that the umpire making the call could benefit from such additional information, the partner should alert the other umpire that there is additional, important information that should be shared.”
So, even if a manager may be right, he could still be wrong...
The HQ thinks... unless we're proven wrong...

College Ump Goes Over The Top...
And head over heels...
This is the time of year where the "snowbird" schedule takes over...
You always see weird match-ups from non-conference opponents- and the HQ even called some in the college years where northern schools head south for the beginning of the season...
Your example in modern days is Rhode Island visiting Dick Howser Stadium to play the HQ's alma, Florida State...
And the home plate umpire got a little overzealous in a strike call...
((HT: ESPN))
Oops...
It's a long season... it should all be in the pacing...

In case you missed it: Ump tackles dumbass streaking fan
There is a reason that TV networks no longer shows the idiots who run out onto fields during the course of a ballgame. And simply put: It's not to encourage other morons to try it so they can get on TV.
However, this is quite good video.
During Friday nights Baltimore Orioles game against Oakland, some drunk, dumbass teen or 20-year old ran out onto the Camden Yards field. For some reason nobody seemed to be in a hurry to stop him as he loops through the infield, rounds third and heads home.
That's when Home Plate ump Jeff Kellogg steps in.
And drops the ass-clown, holding him in place with a knee in the middle of his back.
We only hope it hurt the stupid-mf. We hope it injures him real good.
But it probably didn't.
