The Player is coming back to play football...
Just indoors, though... he'll be part-owner and participant for the Allen Wranglers of the Indoor Football League...
"[Owens] has an ownership stake," Wranglers co-owner Jon Frankel said after the signing. "This is a business decision. I'm glad everybody looks at the players' aspects. I can't believe T.O. will come out of that tunnel for the Allen Wranglers."
Frankel said he would like to schedule a news conference at the Allen Events Center late next week- open to the public...
If that doesn't spell train wreck, the HQ doesn't know what would... for GM Drew Pearson... and the rest of the IFL...

Yale Knocks Off Trinity... So What, You Say...???
((HT: Yale Athletics))
The answers to the trivia questions are: John Roberts, 5-4, and 252...
The Bulldogs beat the Bantams in squash ((The HQ knows you're trying to stifle laughter on that one)) to end the nation's longest win streak- regardless of sport.
That 252 straight included 13 national titles in the sport, even as Trinity admitted this was their most inexperienced team in years going into the season.
Here's match point...
Jeff Nowak of the Hartford Courant caught up with Yale head coach Dave Talbott:
"I can't say enough about my guys — such heart," said Yale head coach Dave Talbott. "Trinity's put squash on the map in this country. … To see this many kids from this many countries competing against each other is really amazing."
The school's last loss was February 22, 1998- before last night, anyway...

Vikes Have Governor Thinking Downtown
((HT: KARE-TV))
Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton initially gave a non-committal committal on where he thought the Minnesota Vikings should be for their new barn since owner Zygi Wilf wants a new place to replace the formally-sunken in Metrodome.
But then, at the same presser, Dayton thought the Basilica site would be a nice one...
Here's his instant cutback...
The larger issue for the Vikes and Wilf is the idea that if they play on the U of M campus, they're losing money for three years through a bunch of different losses in revenue streams... like parking, concessions, little things like that...
The HQ sees where he's coming from, but Governor Dayton needs to be careful about not angering higher powers...

Hey, Yu...!!! Darvish Agrees With Rangers
((HT: WFAA-TV))
The Texas Rangers aren't messing around... at least they're trying not to mess around. They spent almost US$112-million in getting Japanese ace pitcher Yu Darvish to sign on the line which is dotted...
Dale Hansen discusses...
The next question is... will Darvish be like Nomo, Daisuke, or somewhere in between...??? At 6-5, 195 the HQ thinks first and foremost that Darvish needs to find himself some BBQ or some steaks to put in that body of his...
Some meat on the bone, son...
That's what we're calling for...
Some additional pounds...
Fill out that shirt, my boy...

Why No Helmets In Warm-Ups...???
That's the question now as the Edmonton Oilers Taylor Hall is out until further notice after the following happened in Columbus...
FOSG Jeff Marek shows something not pretty...
((HT: Sportsnet/NHL/VideoCentreTV))
Hall was not at practice Wednesday as Edmonton prepared for St. Louis...
Oilers head coach Tom Renney said that Hall is doubtful for Thursday, but Taylor Hall declared himself "hopeful."
The HQ guesses that "hopeful" is somewhere in between doubtful, questionable, and probable...

Rob Lowe blasted for tweet about Peyton Manning
Wow!
The Twitter sportswriting community has been all abuzz on a Wednesday afternoon over a somewhat odd tweet from an odd source.
Actor @Rob Lowe apparently tweeted this afternoon: "Hearing my fave, #18 Peyton Manning will not return to #NFL. Wow. #Colts
Before getting to the responses, there is apparently no truth to the rumor, with Manning's father, Archie telling the Indianapolis Star (laughing) "He ain't retiring. I think he would have told me."
The Indianapolis Star has more RIGHT HERE
What is oddly fascinating here is the response. And it was a pretty vitriolic response...from Sportswriters who seemed to think Lowe was trying to encroach on their territory and break news.
A sampling of responses:
@realfreemancbs (Mike Freeman of CBSSports.com): "Rob Lowe...shut up"
@bobkravitz( Bob Kravitz Indy Star Colts writer ): "I better not get beat on Manning story by Rob Lowe. Although I liked Youngblood. His dad in movie, Eric Nesterenko, was my HS hockey coach"
@AlbertBreer (Albert Breer of NFL.com): "I enjoyed Rob Lowe's work in Tommy Boy"
@SI_JoeLemire (Joe LeMire of SI.com): "Rob Lowe does play a sitcom character who lives in Indiana. This could simply be terrific grassroots marketing. #Peytonmanning. #Parksandrec"
@FoxSports: : "Breaking News from Pawnee, Indiana insider, Rob Lowe! #Colts #Manning"
Okay, so it is a slow news day and we found this quite funny. Either way, take a breath Indianapolis Fans, Peyton isn't retiring...yet. You can rest assured, though Lowe may be friends with Jim Irsay, someone other than Lowe will be the 1st to report it.
So with that in mind....
Here is a look at the "Youngblood" movie, mentioned by Mr. Kravitz:

Western Carolina wins...by 102
No...really, they won their game Tuesday night against noted college hoops power Toccoa Falls by the score of 141-39. We thought these type of games were exhibitions played in November, not now.
That score included a 72-17 halftime lead. We don't exactly know why Western Carolina, a middle of the pack team in the Southern Conference played Toccoa Falls, a division II team and religious college in the hills of Georgia, but they did. The Eagles aren't great, they were 3-6 going into the game. Eastern Carolina, they moved to 9-10 on their season with the win.
Toccoa Falls guard Josh Barrett scored 17 of his teams 39 points.
There is no word if the Catamounts were embarrassed by either scheduling this game or by the amount of points they scored. For those keeping track, it's the 3rd largest win in the history of NCAA Basketball.
