Sports Talk Station Shuts Down, Host Find Out On The Air...

((HT: Deadspin/Youtube))

This is NOT the way to find out you're out of a job...

Over Twitter...

While you're on the air...
It happened while 87.7 The Game's "Quigs and Finfer" show was going on in Chicago on Thursday.

Here's Quigs and Finfer's response while they were on the air...

And it's uncomfortable...

The next six weeks will be very interesting on the air up there...

The HQ gives respect to them for not cussing while their discussion was ongoing...

Patrick Reed Will Have Consequences

((HT: John Gentry's Vine ))

At the HSBC Championship earlier today, Patrick Reed was less than pleased with is putting efforts and was drawn to alliteration in a rather-loud outburst of self-chatter...

The PGA Tour instantly didn't like it:

“The PGA Tour Conduct Unbecoming regulations prohibit the use of obscene language on the golf course. The PGA Tour will deal with this matter internally in accordance with its regulations.”

Reed will be fined and he apologized for the outburst on his Twitter feed.

Could The #FreeGSU Movement Get Legs After All...???

((HT: The Coastal Source))

Georgia Southern student Jeremy Mack has created an online petition to see if his Eagles (and Brother Phil's Eagles for that matter) could get an NCAA waiver to participate in bowl season if there are not enough bowl eligible teams in the first place...

His petititon is hyah...

His interview with FOSG's Big Frank and Stefanie to explain himself is below...

The HQ is for it...

We're fairly certain Southern is for it...

And it might even mean a bid in the Camellia Bowl for them- which is a new bowl game in Montgomery for December 20th, by the way...

The Eagles are currently 7-2, 6-0 in the Sun Belt. They're are currently 1st in the conference standings, and the rest of their season is interesting. The Eagles travel to Texas State and Navy before finishing the season at home against Louisiana-Monroe.

Could be 9-3 or so... and the waiver might be theirs...

LenDale White Doesn't Like Pat Haden Now, Either...

((HT: Larry Brown Sports))

Former USC running back LenDale White has made no secret through his very vocal Twitter feed that he is not a fan of the administration at his alma mater and some of their coaching in the past few games...

White wanted to have USC fire defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox after the near melt-down in the close win last week against Arizona (28-26).

That anger was reinforced and amplified after yesterday's incident when he was escorted out of the locker room after the 56-28 win over Colorado.
((HT: USCFootball.com))

Now, he wants AD Pat Haden fired and went on another Twitter rant...

I can't believe @ADHadenUSC kicked me out of #thecoli shook my hand then had me escorted out. I'm still at a loss for words!!!

And then, there's this (redaction from LBS)

LenDale White may now be a must-read on the Twitters just because of entries like these...

DEVELOPING: NPSL Commissioner Responds To Pensacola City Situation (Kinda)

((HT: Michael Hitchock's Twitter))

Although not to direct question, the Commissioner of the NPSL has responded in a series of Tweets to the situation in Pensacola

Dear @NPSLSoccer fans: No one is more frustrated with the PCFC situation than me. With all the positive momentum for the NPSL right now 1/2

The owner of PCFC has let down the NPSL, the South East members & most importantly his players. We are getting all the info & addressing 2/2

The @NPSLSoccer is a not-for-profit corporation whose mission it to grow the sport of soccer in US in a sustainable way. Run by the members.

Consistent with the NPSL structure & philosophy, South East conference members will work together with NPSL on PCFC issue. Thx for support!

1/2 Official Statement: @NPSLSoccer is extremely disappointed to hear that Pensacola City FC has decided to cease operations immediately...

2/2 Statement: League remains committed to the Pensacola soccer community and looks forward to working with fans & supporters in the future.

OSG Sports has asked the Commissioner about the 7 games on the schedule that PCFC were to play and how the schedule is reconfigured...

And, in an amazingly similar to Tweet number 4 above, he replied:

South East Conference members are working with NPSL on PCFC issue. Consistent with NPSL structure

More when we know more... and, maybe, more details...

One Pelini To Another: Fine, You Can Keep Her...

((HT: BTN))

This is what happens during Spring Football games... stuff that's not normal...

For those of you that follow Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini on the Twitter Machine, he has a fake account from someone else @FauxPelini and the avatar for that account has him looking like this (pictured right, thanks Fake Bo Pelini)...

So, you knew that with Spring Football being Spring Football, the slightly half-bubble off plumb Cornhuskers head coach would do something... Just not something involving Faux Bo's feline...

But he did...

Next move is yours... Faux Bo...

College Analyst Charles Barkley May Be More Fun Than NBA Version

((HT: Larry Brown Sports/CBS Sports))

Halftime of the Florida-UCLA game gave Charles the opportunity to reflect on 1984 and what has happened since according to a CBS graphic...

And, then, Round Two came after Shaq (who was not there in studio) Tweeted to Charles about his opening salvo...

Words of warning...

Do not...
Ever...

Give Charles any ammunition to come after you...

Never...

Mizzou DE Sam Says He Is Gay, Patrick Crayton Not A Fan...

((HT: ESPN))

Michael Sam could be drafted this year for a team that needs some help up front...

Teammates have known since the beginning of the regular season that he is gay, but he is now telling Chris Connelly the same and he is now the first openly gay pro prospect...

Here's a piece of his interview...

Sam led the SEC with 11-and-a-half sacks, and 19 tackles for loss. Most NFL draft projections see him as a Day Two selection, with some saying Sam could go as high as the third round. He may have to change from DE to a linebacker because of his college size...

Here's instant analysis

It will be interesting to see if Sam can:

A) Stick to a roster and,
B) Not be subjected to the stereotypical locker room culture that the HQ knows exists- on every level...

Will we all be adults...???

What the HQ feels and what may actually happen are two different things...

UPDATE: The Cowboys Patrick Crayton is the first over the bar...

In a series of Tweets, the receiver showed his true colors- until he says his account was hacked or the comments get removed...

Missouri DE Michael Sam, a projected mid-round pick, said today he's gay. Story now on ESPN2." To urself!!!
Missouri DE Michael Sam, a projected mid-round pick, said today he's gay. Story now on ESPN2." Stay in the closet and keep
Missouri DE Michael Sam, a projected mid-round pick, said today he's gay. Story now on ESPN2." trying to figure why annonce
Missouri DE Michael Sam, a projected mid-round pick, said today he's gay. Story now on ESPN2." Oh wow!!! There goes the NFL!

He proceeded to get in a Twitter battle with Johnny Knoxville of all people...

Heterosexuals aren't walking around saying I'm straight!!!

Stay classy...

St. Mary's University Football Suspending Players For Sexist, Racist Tweets

((HT: Global Toronto/UNews))

It all has a history at St. Mary's University... a stupid, disgusting history of chants that college students (for some idiotic reason) think are funny...

This happened during freshman orientation week...

And, now, the lack of cleverness has carried over to the football team where it is apparent that anywhere from "six to nine" players are about to be suspended for their sexist and racist tweets...

Like this one:

Classy... and that's just the beginning...

Head coach Perry Marchese has tried to keep an eye on his player's social media habits, and has called them out on occasion. Most of the time if he has seen something, it has been a question about a song lyric. He says his staff have been strong in their anti-bullying stances, and will have to ramp it up again...

From the UNews piece:

“The song lyrics, a couple times, have gotten me,” says Marchese. “I’ve seen some stuff put up on Facebook and I’ll message them [...] and they’ll say it’s just a quote from a song.”

He says he asks them all the time to remove posts he’s seen as offensive from Facebook, and that they are constantly educated on monitoring their own social media.

“We preach it all the time, we talk about it all the time and to actually see some evidence that they aren’t getting it is a good education for me.”

One troubling passage from the UNews article:

But Marchese says he doesn’t know if he is educated enough to specifically talk to his team about issues of sexualized violence.

Really...???

If that's the case, then St. Mary's team may be in deeper trouble than they realize...

Dan Sileo Is At It Again... For The 39,046,986,243th Time

((HT: Facebook/Tim Reynolds AP))

Former Miami Hurricane and current Miami talk show host Dan Sileo is at it again- whether it was a bad joke played through Twitter or not... and for those trying to find his Twitter account, it's right here...

Sileo, currently mid-day host for the NBC Sports Radio affiliate in Miami, posted this last night...

He admitted that he "hated what this kid did," but since DT Timmy Jernigan was a hometown kid who was not looked at by Sileo's school during recruiting, Jernigan played with a bit of a chip on his shoulder last night... as did tailback Devonta Freeman- another south Florida kid ignored by Miami...

Sileo went on to preach about sportsmanship- as he himself admits that he played for one of the most hated teams in college football history (his words)- THE 86 CANES... in all caps...

AP writer Tim Reynolds called Sileo out for his outburst, referring to it as "pathetic and disgusting." Reynolds went on to call Sileo's employers at 640AM who are "...still looking into the situation..."

Reynolds main point was that a "member of the media" (HQ quotes), no less than a week after the NCAA ruling, was calling for a bounty on a college player. 640 came out with a statement saying that "640 Sports is just as shocked and stunned as everyone else by this tweet." Which, probably, led to Sileo doing this...

It has been a constant back and forth with Facebookers and Tweeters with Sileo trying to explain it was a joke, but it doesn't seem to be going over very well... and the "6 weeks" reference has to do with a possible/probable rematch in the ACC Championship Game...

Sileo was a postgame analyst for U-M football at one point, but the comments proved to be too critical against his old school...

The HQ is sensing a whole lot of irony here...

Sileo had made some disparaging comments about Erin Andrews that put him on thin ice at QAM, but not thin enough to get him fired...

Sileo WAS fired from WQAM back in March for an Anti-Semitic remark on his radio show...

And he had been fired from another sports talk station a year before that in Miami...

The only thing missing from Sileo is that beeping noise from trucks when they slam it in reverse...

Sewage Backs Up In Oakland Coliseum Again

((HT: KGO-TV))

Remember, this happened back in June of this year and caused some creative dressing situations for the Oakland A's and their opponents...

For the second time this summer, raw sewage has backed up into the team's facilities inside the Coliseum. The first time, it required clean-up and new carpeting. It happened again in the dugout during the team's 2-1 win over the Angels yesterday.

Stadium maintenance is looking for the cause.
Of course, they are...

And if this doesn't reinforce the A's and the Raiders wanting to look for a new home- in locations the teams already have scouted and are ready to build in- the HQ won't know what will...

Wednesday morning, two plumbers were in the guilty bathroom, taking out water that had overflowed from a toilet because automatic sensors were not functioning- according to VP of Stadium Operations Dave Rinetti.

It was, apparently, an easy clean up. But someone has started a new Twitter account - @ColiseumSewage

The tag line being "overflowing with love for the Oakland A's."

Amen...

Sabres Alternate Sweater Catching Grief

((HT: WGRZ-TV))

A lot of it...

Here's the coverage of the reveal...

People were joking on social media that the Atlanta Thrashers 3rd sweater (the "Defender" look") was laughing at that one revealed above... and the thought is with Ott doing the reveal is that he may be the new face of the franchise...

Well, okay then...

Braves And Nats Go To Twitter To Decide Quien Es Mas Macho...

((HT: Broadway Video/MASN/MLB))

The Nationals are in free fall as the pitching and hitting that was around to make the playoffs last year is nowhere to be found this year. The Nats are 14-and-a-half behind the Braves and are staring a sweep right in the face.

So, what happens after Bryce Harper homers off Julio Teheran the second time he comes to the plate...??/

Here's Harper getting hit...

That made zero sense from Teheran. The only solution should have been for the two to go ahead and play "Texas Whip Out," get out the nearest rulers, and settle it that way. But that wouldn't have made good television...

So, they tried to settle it 140 letters at a time, and hilarity ensued...

The Braves Twitter feed, which seems to have a mind of its own, responded in kind to the outburst...

Clown move bro

To which the Nats came back with (before it was deleted):

Which part, giving up the home run, or drilling the 20-year-old on the first pitch his next time up?

Ah, the Twitter Machine...

Why Roddy White And Victor Cruz Need To Back Away From The Twitter

The Trayvon Martin verdict was put out there into the Twitterverse this evening...

And, as a news feed, we thought we'd show you this...

Atlanta Falcons WR Roddy White sent off this gem:

All them jurors should go home tonight and kill themselves for letting a grown man get away with killing a kid

After sending this gem:

Fucking Zimmerman got away with murder today wow what kind of world do we live in

Well, then...

Decide for yourself how you fall on the trial of George Zimmerman and the subsequent verdict, but what Roddy fired off was pole vaulting over a line of common sense that gets crossed more often than not these days in the era of social media...

It will be interesting to see how Roddy responds and how his employers feel about his thoughts at 140-words-per submission...

As an aside, newly minted Giants WR Victor Cruz sent off the following howitzer on his own:

"Thoroughly confused. Zimmerman doesn't last a year before the hood catches up to him."

Public apologies and retractions in 3, 2, 1...

Minor League Team Boasts Jersey Of Twitter Followers

((HT: Fort Wayne TinCaps their own selves and Darren Rovell))

The HQ is somewhat confused and doesn't know what to think about this right off...

Would you, willingly, wear a jersey like this...???

Social Media Night is June 13th for the Caps and they're going all out... in very small print...

Also, according to the Caps, TinCaps fans will be able to determine everything from the on-field games that are played to what the team jerseys will look like!

Just so you know, it will also be "Thirsty Thursday" where beer is a dollar, other mixed drinks are available at discount, Jake the Diamond Dog will be around catching everything in sight, and there will be post-game fireworks for those of you sober enough to remember...

And, by then, the game jerseys may look like Escher paintings...

Thunder Ballboy Sends Death Threat To Patrick Beverley

((HT: CBS Sports/Moore))

Really...???
A ball boy...???

From the Oklahoma City Thunder, there is obvious anger and concern at chasing an NBA title without their classiest post-game dresser Russell Westbrook. Westbrook tore his meniscus in a move where he and the Rockets' Patrick Beverley got tangled up...

Hyah...
((HT: NBA/KFOR-TV))

Welp...

From The Houston Chronicle:

Mitchell Brown sent a tweet that threatened, “Patrick Beverly (sic), I'm coming to kill you.” He sent another using Beverley's Twitter handle; “@pavbev21 I'm coming to kill you.”

Capt. Dexter Nelson, a spokesman for the Oklahoma City Police Department, said officers in conjunction with the Houston Police Department and the NBA are looking into what he described as “Internet threats.”

Thunder spokesperson Matt Tumbleson said, “We do not condone his comments. He works game nights on a voluntary basis. We will handle this matter internally.”

Shortly after Thunder officials were told of the tweets, Brown deleted them with an apology:

“Yesterday I posted something completely inappropriate and I need to apologize. I was out of line and it will not happen again.”

He later removed that tweet and instead said his account was hacked.

“@patbev21 yesterday someone tweeted on my account making a death threat towards you and it wasn't me. I apologize.”

The Chronicle also said on their pages that extra security was in place regardless of what happened over Twitter...

Sportscaster Goes Shirtless After Losing Bet On Twitter

((HT: WUSA-TV))

Three-and-a-half minutes into overtime Friday, the Washington Wizards had an eight-point lead over the Brooklyn Nets.

This gave WUSA-TV Sports anchor Dave Owens enough reason to think aloud on his Twitter feed:

“If the Wizards blow this I’ll do the sportscast without a shirt on!”

The Wizards gave up 11 straight points to go down by three, forced double-overtime on a Bradley Beal three-pointer, and lost.

Thus, we have the following...

Lesson here...???
The Twitter is a dangerous place...

Former College FB Player Apologizes For Racist Tweet

((HT: WAFF-TV Huntsville))

File this in the "too little, too late" department for Social Darwinism...

Bradley Patterson, who at the time was a walk-on football player at the University of North Alabama, tweeted a message
(pictured with the racist word blurred, right- thanks WAFF-TV)that refers to President Obama in a really stupid, racist characterization.

Patterson was not happy his football game was pulled over to CNBC and NBCSports Network when the President spoke to the people of Newtown, Connecticut.

Less than 45 minutes later, Patterson received a call from the UNA head coach saying he was done...

Mark Linder, UNA Athletic Director, then went to Twitter himself to defend his school and not Patterson's action...

Patterson then felt, way too late, to apologize...
Or something...
WAFF-TV: News, Weather and Sports for Huntsville, AL

In "way over my head...?"

How 'bout this idea...???

Lolo Jones Doesnt Know Who Eric LeGrand Is... And Finds Out Too Late...

Hurdler Lolo Jones trash-talked about head injuries to Eric LeGrand after he "challenged" her to a race on Twitter.

When she responded, it was obvious that she had no idea who LeGrand was...

After LeGrand tweeted to Jones "want to race me?", she came back with: "Get Checked for a concussion. Clearly, u've been hit in the head... Cos u arnt beating a track athlete."

When people broke the news to her about LeGrand and his story, Jones knew she was in trouble: "Great I'm gonna get murdered for that tweet. When I had no clue who that dude was.Just responding to any athlete who challenges me to a race."

Yeah, that was about right...

LeGrand later tweeted: "didnt take it personal, understand where ur coming from. All good."

His most recent tweet about the whole thing came this afternoon...

This stuff between @lolojones is ridiculous, she is a great person who misunderstood what I tweeted. People stop bashing her it's not right

And this is what we knew Lolo for before the Twitter War that she lost big...

The Chipper Jones Twitter Song

((ht: yt/rickymastbaseball))

It was bound to happen. And yet it is so odd...and bizarre, Atlanta Braves fans seem to feel compelled to watch it.

The it we refer to is a YouTube video produced by a user called "RickyMastBaseball". In it, an almost cult-like song about Atlanta Braves 3rd Baseman Chipper Jones and his recent emergence on Twitter.

By the way, you can follow Chipper @RealCJ10.

Anyway, the video, which is essentially composed of some photos/drawings, dancing on a stick is kinda funny and very creative.

It is based on Chipper's recent superstition of Tweeting on Monday's after the Braves lost 12 straight Monday games. The first time he did it, they won.

Enough babbling about the video, just click on the player down here to see it.
