Patrick Reed Will Have Consequences

((HT: John Gentry's Vine ))

At the HSBC Championship earlier today, Patrick Reed was less than pleased with is putting efforts and was drawn to alliteration in a rather-loud outburst of self-chatter...

The PGA Tour instantly didn't like it:

“The PGA Tour Conduct Unbecoming regulations prohibit the use of obscene language on the golf course. The PGA Tour will deal with this matter internally in accordance with its regulations.”

Reed will be fined and he apologized for the outburst on his Twitter feed.

((HT: PGA Tour))

On the 17th at Sawgrass, mind you...

That doesn't suck...

Mike Colb, a MetLife rep, was in a group that wandering to the island green when they were met by the professional...

Then, this happened...

Obviously, we don't see the ball go in...

So, for all the HQ knows the video could be one huge work and we're all fooled...

Colb, maybe, even hit it in the water...
Like the rest of us mortals...

Golfers Halloween: The Birds, It's The Byrds

((ht: cbssports.com))

Okay, so the last part of the headline probably won't make any sense unless you watch this video to the very end and know your golfer names. And you should.

Check out a Halloween themed promo done by the guys at PGA Tour Productions.

It's a bit of a riff on an Alfred Hitchcock classic featuring some of the best "Bird" moments from the PGA Tour.

Nicely done, quite funny and very timely.

Enjoy--

PGA Prez Fired for Calling Poulter "Little Girl"

Oh boy...or girl. Haha!

Sorry for the bad jokes folks, just waking up to do the morning roundup.

Late Friday, the PGA of America removed Ted Bishop as their president after Bishop tweeted that PGA pro Ian Poulter was a "Little Girl" and then followed it up with a Facebook post bashing Poulter by saying he sounded like a "Little Girl squealing at recess"...

The exchange began shortly after Poulter's book about his Ryder Cup experiences was released during the week. In it, Poulter made some comments Bishop did not like about 2008 Euro Ryder Cup captain Nick Faldo and US 2014 captain Tom Watson.

And the war of words began...

You can read more from ESPN.com RIGHT HERE

Bishop has since made the rounds, apologizing for the social media posts and has since deleted them. But it was too late.

The PGA, after asking him to resign early Friday, went ahead and voted to impeach Bishop after he refused to resign, wanting to apologize to the PGA of America board in person.

PGA Chief Executive Pete Bevacqua said this; "The PGA of America understands the enormous responsibility it has to lead this great game and to enrich lives in our society through golf," PGA chief executive Pete Bevacqua said in a statement. "We must demand of ourselves that we make golf both welcoming and inclusive to all who want to experience it, and everyone at the PGA of America must lead by example."

BREAKING: Mickelson In The Tents Again

((HT: PGA Tour))

On Friday, Phil Mickelson was out of control with his driver on the 5th at The Barclays- hitting his drive into the hospitality tents. It gave him a bout of creativity where he his his second from the carpets and, eventually, bogeyed the hole.

This just happened in his third round

Legendary words: "Oh no! Not again..."

So You Can Hit From A Tent, But Not Off Another Green

((HT: PGA Tour/Golf Channel))

You can go all Tin Cup like Phil Mickelson did in Round 2 of The Barclays...

He did bogey the hole by the way...

That you can do...

But Seung-Yul Noh's tee shot on the 11th hole landed on the green of the 3rd hole. He could have taken a free drop, but he didn't know that part of the rule...

He then hit is next shot as a chip shot off the green and was assessed a 2-stroke penalty.

Wonder if anyone else will have any other kinds of adventures for the final two rounds...

Jimmy Fallon Ribs PGA Golfers; Golfers Return Volley

((ht: foxsports.com))

Humor is good? Right?

Host of NBC's The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon had a little fun with some PGA Tour Golfers Tuesday night in his "Tonight Show Superlatives" skit...

Fallon ribbed a few of the PGA's best and brightest and it was all in good fun:

And because it's only fair, the PGA Tour had a response to Mr. Fallon:

Touche' PGA Tour, Touche'...

We should add, probably not by coincidence, tour big timers Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods will be appearing on Fallon's show Wednesday night.

Coincidence?

Nah....

How About Hole-ing Out For A 59...???

((HT: PGA Tour Canada/Shane Bacon))

Devil Ball Golf gets the credit for this one...

Brady Schnell is chasing Brock McKenzie after two rounds of the tournament in Calgary.

Really, he's only a few strokes back. But what McKenzie did in two rounds (16-under), Schnell is doing in one. Schnell holed out a wedge to shoot a 59 in the second round of the tournament and is now only the second player to shoot sub-60 in a PGA Tour Canada event. The other is Jason Bohn who actually shot a 58.

Fact is, Schnell was only looking to get the wedge close to shoot 60...

Here's Brady talking about his 59 and knowing he did it the second he holed out

Here's Round One highlights, by the way...

Sergio Goes For A 27 On The Back (And A 61)

((HT: PGA Tour))

Sometimes, you have one of THOSE days...
The day like the padre had during the rainstorm in "Caddyshack"

Looks like somebody had a day similar- except for the rain and being struck by lightning thing...

Before today, Sergio Garcia's low est 9-hole score was a 29. He hit that number three times.
Today, he shot a 27 on the back-nine today at Bridgestone.

He leads the pack by 3 at 11-under.

Here's his action on the 15th- a 224-yard par-3

Justin Rose is three back at 8-under
Marc Leishman and Rory McIlroy are at 7-under

And here is Garcia on the 18th for his seventh straight birdie and a 61

Dustin Johnson Suspended 6 Months For Positive Drug Test (UPDATED)

((HT: Golf.com/Bamberger, Walker))

Now, we know...

Yesterday, PGA Tour pro Dustin Johnson was stepping away to take some time and seek "professional help" for some issues that he was going through at present.

Bamberger and Walker may now have the answer as to what those issues are: testing positive for cocaine.

The article also sheds some light on what could be some very serious allegations on Johnson's behavior while he has been on tour the last few seasons.

The background to this suspension from the Golf.com article:

Johnson has failed three drug tests: one for marijuana in 2009 and two for cocaine, in 2012 and 2014. He was previously suspended for the 2012 failed test, but that suspension was never made public. Under the PGA Tour’s drug-testing policies, the Tour is not required to announce any disciplinary actions against players who test positive for recreational drugs.

His past is somewhat checkered with the tour and includes an alleged indiscretion with another player's wife.

Johnson's "management team" released this statement yesterday:

“I will use this time to seek professional help for personal challenges I have faced,” he said in a statement issued by his management company. “By committing the time and resources necessary to improve my mental health, physical well-being and emotional foundation, I am confident that I will be better equipped to fulfill my potential and become a consistent champion.”

Here's a feature the tour put together on Johnson on him when he returns to his home town- Jupiter, Florida

The HQ hopes he gets the help he needs...

1900 UPDATE: The tour is saying he is not suspended...

Executive vice president Ty Votaw says the leave is voluntary.

"With regard to media reports that Dustin Johnson has been suspended by the PGA Tour, this is to clarify that Mr. Johnson has taken a voluntary leave of absence and is not under a suspension from the PGA Tour," Votaw said in a statement.

McNeill's 61 Good For Second At Greenbrier

((HT: PGA Tour/CBS Sports))

Jason Sobel did a terrific column explaining how George McNeill went out today and lit up the Greenbrier Resort for a final round-61. He finished runner-up to Angel Cabrera who finished 64-64.

McNeill's older sister was in a losing battle with cancer that had metastasized along her spine and he has been constantly getting updates on her condition while he is on tour.

She died 20 minutes before McNeill's tee time this morning, but he didn't know until he checked in with family after his round was over.

Here's the highlights as McNeill posted a hell of a number on a rough day...

And here's the discussion afterwards with Kelly Tilghman, Steve Sands, and Jason Sobel

Hunter Mahan Goes Unrecognized At Sporting Goods Store

((HT: CSNWashington))

Even with a 15-foot poster of him in the store where he was dressed down to look more normal than his PGA Tour golfer-self

Would you fall under the same fate...???
Here's the results...

Best Golf Shot from Under a Tree: Jason Bohn

((ht: cbssports.com))

Boom!

Ok, well, not exactly, but it's still pretty cool to see PGA Tour Golfer Jason Bohn hole out from 125 yards, underneath a tree at the 10th hole of the Greenbrier Classic.

Honestly, the headline on the original story we saw made it sound like some sort of crazy shot, but actually it was just sitting under a tree.

Bohn hit's a knockdown shot that plops on the green and rolls right in the hole for an eagle...

Nicely done sir...

John Daly and Your Pants of the Week

((ht: cbssports.com))

What's that you say? Pants of the week?

Well, yeah, watch the video and it will suddenly all make sense.

Check out PGA Tour Golfer and fashion plate John Daly's pants of choice for Friday's round at The Travelers Championship.

Don't know if he plans to win, but yeah, we'll say it....it looks like he's all about the cash money.

Hahahaha!

Here's your video proof from the PGA Tour as Daly holes out a long eagle putt:

Erik Compton Makes A Helluva Statement

((HT: Golf Channel/USGA))

For those of you unfamiliar with the story, Erik Compton is a two-time heart transplant recipient (1992 and 2008). And to see what he has done in sports as a professional golfer is really cool...

What he did at Pinehurst is flat out awesome- especially when doctors tell you that you're not going to play golf after the second translplant.

Rex Hoggard's piece over at the Golf Channel is required reading about this weekend for Compton.

And having covered Compton during his time at the University of Georgia, the HQ has seen what he can do as a golfer- a tremendous golfer who, just happens to have a rather large medical file for his doctors to look through.

Here's his thoughts after finishing tied for second when he thought he could have done better...
Which is typical Erik Compton

Ian Poulter Pitches to the Green From The Bridge Railing

((ht: cbssports.com))

Okay, this really isn't fair. Mostly because normal hackers like us can't actually do this.

Check out this promotional video PGA Tour Golfer and snazzy dresser Ian Poulter participated in for King Cobra golf.

Poulter stands on the railing of a creek bridge on a random golf course...explains his predicament and boom! Drops the ball on the green.

Yeah, needless to say, don't try this at home, though we know some of you will. And no, even if I was on flat ground, I couldn't hit a pitch that well...very often.

Nice job Mr. Poulter, we applaud you not falling while hitting the shot...

Reports: Phil Mickelson Part of Insider Trading Investigation--UPDATED

((ht: dealbook.nytimes.com))

Hmmmm....

Masters champ and PGA Tour golfer Phil Mickelson is one of several interesting names being bandied about during a federal insider trading investigation.

F.B.I and Security and Exchange Commission Investigators are looking into some trades made by Mickelson, a Sports gambler by the name of William T. Waters and possibly investor Carl Icahn.

No charges have been filed, but the investigation began after reports began to surface that Icahn may have shared some insider information with Waters, who passed on the information to Mickelson.

For their part, investigators have not connected Icahn and Mickelson, but the golfer does have some connection to Waters. And Waters is a known and successful Sports gambler who owns a Las Vegas area golf course.

Hmmmm....

Read more from the NY Times RIGHT HERE

This is interesting. We don't profess to know how investigators will tie all these allegations together but they raise plenty of questions.

For people who don't run in the circles of multi-millionaires like these guys, it wouldn't be a shock that information like this is shared.

But it would be a shock to find out their hero Phil Mickelson could be involved in doing it. There have been whispers for years that Mickelson is or was a heavy gambler, which could easily explain the relationship with Mr. Waters.

It will be very interesting to see if or how this all plays out....

**UPDATE**---Mickelson released a statement Saturday afternoon stating that he has been cooperating with investigators and due to the nature of the investigation, can't talk further about it.

For no real reason, we chose this video of Mickelson...because we don't have a TV News story on this investigation...

Jimmy Walker Plunks Bird With Tee Shot

((ht: cbssports.com))

Oh my, the jokes we tell ya. Oh the jokes.

No, PGA Tour golfer Jimmy Walker didn't yell "Dy-no-mite!" (look it up)  to warn the bird nor did he get a "birdie" on the hole, but he did hit a bird.

Check out Walker's tee shot on the 17th hole at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at The Colonial golf club in Texas.

Watch closely....

Yes, the ball actually HITS a bird and deflects down on the fairway...okay, the rough.

Walker went on to par the hole and finished at 5-under Friday, putting him 2 shots off the lead going into round 3 on Saturday.

But he'll never top this highlight...

Bubba Watson With Best Goofy Golf Putt Ever

Kids, don't try this at home.

But we suppose you could try it at your local Adventure Golf or Goony Golf or whatever it is near where you live.

Check out PGA tour star and Masters champ Bubba Watson playing around with some of his friends at what appears to be a Disney course. (notice the mouse ears)

Bubba lines it up, putts the ball...the other way.

The ball rolls across the cement, through the hole behind him, banks off the side...

Nothing but net...

ICYMI: Only a Louisiana Guy Can Poke a Gator at a Golf Tournament

((ht: golfchannel.com))

Seeing an alligator on a golf course? Guaranteed it will make highlights in a televised tournament.

See a gator next to the green on the course during a PGA Tour Event, yep, the video will go viral.

Check out what happened when an alligator tried to move in on James Driscoll's golf ball during the Zurich Classic outside New Orleans.

That's when playing partner and Louisiana native John Peterson stepped in, grabbed a rake from the nearby sand trap and nudged the gator back into the green side lake.

Good TV, not something recommended for the kids at home and a highlight of the day.
