And You Thought The Panthers Shootout Was Crazy?

((HT: The FA their own selves))

Well, League Two Scunthorpe and Non-league Worcester City went at it in the longest penalty kick shootout in the competition's history.

It ended up going 16 kicks with the Iron going 14-13 for the win to advance into the third round.

How would that have gone in Scunthorpe, the way their season has gone so far, if Worcester had prevailed...???

OSG FA: The Chosen One Loses At Old Trafford

Financial projections for Manchester United are always meant with a top-4 finish in the Premier League and semi-finals appearances in the competition cups in mind...

That, now, has to change as Swansea beat 10-man United in the 3rd round of the FA Cup earlier today at Old Trafford...

Wayne Routledge has a pretty goal early on for the 1-0 lead...
((HT: BT Sport))

But, Fabio issued a vicious challenge that led to a red card offense and put United down a man as they tried to come from behind...

It didn't come to pass, so Swansea gets their first win ever at Old Trafford and United has four home losses in their last six matches as Wilfired Bony got the game-winner late in regulation...

Not what the home fans expect as the Swans now join Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, Sunderland, and Liverpool in the next round.

FA Cup: Wigan Knocks Off Man City (VIDEO)

And you can go ahead and start the talk about Roberto Mancini not even getting on the team bus and going back to the Etihad and just leaving now...

A Ben Watson header in extra time gives Wigan their first title in the 81-year history of the club and reinforces that Roberto Martinez is an absolute magician with the resources he's given (about 53-million versus the 300-plus-million Manchester City gets to play with)...

It all started with the sending off of Man City's Pablo Zabaleta- his second yellow...

Now, Wigan faces the first relegation who was an FA Cup champ... they're three points back with two games to play...

And, according to the Guardian newspaper's Jamie Jackson, Mancini is already gone...

Malaga boss Manuel Pellegrini has apparently already told his players he's heading to England and midfielder Isco may be joining him.

As an addendum, here's Gus calling the game winner...
Ian Wright is clearly pleased that Man City took it in the chops...

OSG Prem: Millwall Loses In FA Cup To Wigan, Fights Themselves...

((HT: FA/ESPNUK))

Clearly, Wigan were the favorites in yesterday's FA Cup semifinal at Wembley against Millwall- and it showed...

Wigan actually controlled the ball for a great deal of the 90 minutes to set up an FA Cup final against either Manchester City or Chelsea- to be decided later today...

But, as is the want sometimes of "bored soccer fan," the Millwall side broke down into your standard, stereotypic battle among fans, more fans, and the local police...

Here's how it broke down late in the loss to the Latics...

Classy, ain't it...???

Especially to the guy who gets to leave with a police souvenir...

“There are always a few idiots,” said John Berylson, the American who owns Millwall. “That’s not our fan-base and we don’t even know who those people are. We will be investigating.”

Idiots... yes... the HQ will agree...

Rafa Benitez Explodes After Chelsea Win

((HT: SkySports))

There is no secret that Roman Abramovich is very rich, and as a result, very impulsive when it comes to his Champions League squad and their continued (and somewhat mandatory) success...

The 5th Round of the FA Cup had the Blues at Middlesborough and won 2-0, but that didn't stop Benitez from giving a rant of the ages toward his "interim" title as manager, the fans that continue to rail against Benitez (and Abramovich for hiring him)...

Here's the rant in full...

If Benitez hasn't signed his occupational death warrant with the inconsistent play of the team since he took over for Roberto di Matteo, then this outburst probably did him in...

OSG Prem: FA Cup Has More Surprises- Arsenal Out, Oldham Hanging Around

((HT: Fox Soccer/FA))

The HQ, these days, is enjoying watching live sporting events early on weekend mornings with all the soccer from across the pond...

We'll get to the early shock in a second, but League 1 mid-carder Oldham United has earned another replay with Everton after a late, late equalizer at home that wasn't without a bit of controversy...

Here's the equalizer with the answer...

But the larger surprise came from The Emirates where relegated Blackburn knocked off Arsenal 1-0 in Round 5...
Colin Kazim-Richards score in the 72nd minute gave the Gunners fans plenty of reason to boo when the game was over...

"I have said it for a while but it is about hard work, organisation and team effort. I thought the lads were fantastic," manager Michael Appleton said afterwards.

"We will enjoy that and then focus on Hull City in the league on Tuesday night. Matches like that have to be great for the confidence.

"The fans were great and I'm sure they will have a good night."

The HQ would agree on that one...

OSG Prem: Another Weird FA Day As Spurs And Liverpool Lose

((HT: FA Cup/youtube))

The first surprise was when Leeds United, languishing in the middle of the Championship table, led by Ross McCormack helped give the home team a lead that Spurs couldn't catch back from- Clint Dempsey's goal withstanding...

A 2-1 win in Round 4 moves Leeds to the Round of 16

Liverpool is certainly going to get their share of grief after Brendan Rodgers' Reds went down a goal early to financially-strapped League 1 side Oldham United. It was the first time Liverpool had been beaten away from home in the FA Cup by a team at least two divisions below them since defeat at non-league Worcester City in 1959.

And Matt Smith, who was a year removed from playing outside the pro leagues entirely, scored his first two of the year at a great time...
((HT: FA Cup/Fox Soccer))

Brentford almost made it a clean sweep of Prem sides, but will have to settle for a replay at Stamford Bridge after a 2-2 tie with Chelsea.

It Was A Weird FA Day: Norwich and QPR Go Down

And, that, really is the only way we can describe it...

It was the 4th Round of the All-In tournament known as one of the most prestigious tourneys in all of British football...

And the All-in moniker came back to bite a few Premier League teams Saturday...

Blue Square Bet Premier League side Luton Town knocked off Norwich- who really have some pressing matters now... and it wouldn't surprise the HQ if Canaries manager Chris Hughton is on borrowed time...

It's the first time in 27 years that a non-league side knocked off a bigger squad...
((HT: FACup/lovefootballworld))

Elsewhere, MK Dons knocked off QPR (and we all know how 'arry Redknapp took to that), and the day before when Millwall beat Aston Villa 2-1 the HQ wonders just how much longer Paul Lambert will be around as Villa's boss.

Here was their celebration- after they chucked beer bottles at the Villa players...

British PM Issues Apology For 1989 Hillsborough Incident

The Prime Minister of Great Britain, David Cameron, has issued an apology after the findings of a new inquiry has been released detailing the April 15th, 1989 incident at Hillsborough, England. 96 Liverpool fans died in the crush of spectators in the 6th minute of play as the one end that housed Liverpool fans became overcrowded.

The inquiry revealed that: "It is evident from analysis of the various investigations that from the outset South Yorkshire Police sought to deflect responsibility for the disaster on to Liverpool fans."

The report also found that 116 of the 164 police statements identified for "substantive amendment" were "amended to remove or alter comments unfavourable to SYP (South Yorkshire Police)"

Here's the PM in House with some of the information of the cover-up...
((HT: BBC))

Here was coverage of the incident as it happened...

It was disclosed that 41 of the 96 who died could have been saved had attention been given to them in a timely manner.

One of the more interesting allegations brought forth in the report, as published by Sky Sports in the FA Cup semi-final with Liverpool and Nottingham Forest:

The panel said the Police Federation, "supported informally by the SYP Chief Constable" sought to develop and publicise a version of events derived in police officers' allegations of drunkenness, ticketless fans and violence.

"The vast majority of fans on the pitch assisted in rescuing and evaluating the injured and the dead," the panel said.

The next stage is to figure out whether or not the 96 and their families will have the opportunity for any kind of legal action once they get the chance to look at the thousands of documents released from the new inquiry...

City Takes Community Shield

((HT: BBC/FA/youtube))

The HQ guesses that you could call this the unofficial start of the football season...

The Premier League starts off next Saturday along with every other squad...

Manchester City and Chelsea took on each other at the odd place- Villa Park- for the obvious reason...

The Blues scored the first goal with Fernando Torres, and the last goal in the 3-2 loss to City. But when the garnet-clad Citizens (yes, the HQ knows they looked a bit odd) scored all the ones in the middle...

Here's the Yaya Toure game-leader early in the second 45...

Chelsea gets Wigan next Saturday while City gets Southampton

OSG Prem: Bolton's Muamba Collapses In FA Cup Match

((HT: ESPN/PremierLeague/youtube))

In between Premier League contests this week, squads are in the quarterfinals for the FA Cup- the nation's oldest trophy.

The Bolton-Tottenham match-up, however, was eventually abandoned after the collapse of Wanderers midfielder Fabrice Muamba. There was an on-field attempt to resuscitate him, but he was eventually taken to London Chest Hospital...

Bolton said in a statement: "Fabrice Muamba has been admitted to the heart attack center at London Chest hospital where he is currently in a critically ill condition in intensive care."

Here's the report from the four-letter's side...

And here's one angle of coverage...
((HT: Russia2/youtube))

More on Muamba when we know more...
Here's some of SkySports in-game coverage...

FA Cup: Villa Loses Lead In 15, Falls To Arsenal

((HT: FoxSports))

The Emirates got to see both sides of a big FA Cup 4th-Rounder between host Arsenal and Aston Villa.

Robbie Keane continues to show how vital a short-termer he is for the Claret Blue, but a key stretch of the second half tilited the world for Arsenal...

Here's the highlights, if you're a Gunners fan...
FA Cup: Arsenal/Aston Villa

5th-round is the Round of 16:

Liverpool vs. Brighton
Everton vs. Blackpool or Sheffield Wednesday
Chelsea vs. Birmingham
Crawley Town vs. Stoke
Stevenage vs. Tottenham
Norwich vs. Leicester
Sunderland or Middlesbrough vs. Arsenal
Millwall or Southampton vs. Bolton

Everything goes the weekend of February 18 or 19.
And, by the way, Sheffield Wednesday is the name of the team, not when the do-over is scheduled...

FA Cup: Evra Caught Napping, Liverpool Through

((HT: FoxSports))

By beating ManU even...

Here's the highlights, including Dirk Kuyt's game-winner off the long goal kick by Pepe Reina... good stuff...

Now, the oldest championship has an interesting set of match-ups for Round 5...

The biggest surprises coming through are Bolton over Swansea, Brighton over Newcastle, and the above...

Any game that ends in a tie gets played again from scratch...

FA Cup Goal Is, In Fact, A Goalasso...

The HQ will openly admit that european football is the new toy in the room for us this year...

We understand it's value, but we don't necessarily understand it.

The HQ also knows that there seem to be 48 different titles that teams can win overseas- everyone gets a trophy by the end of the year...

And we'll admit that we saw this goal forst-hand this AM, which is the main reason we would only think to post it...

It's the FA Cup competition, which if you listen to football commentators, is the oldest trophy as everyone gets a trophy. And every squad, regardless of division, gets a shot at one another. Think of it like college football where LSU would play North Dakota State separate from their 12 game schedules...

nPower League 2 Macclesfield Town had a home game against Premier League also-ran Bolton. Arnaud Mendy made the game 2-1 for the home team before the 2-2 ending...

The HQ would like to know what you think...
