((HT: ESPN/FIFA))
If the Ivory Coast won with the firepower they had- Yaya Toure, Kolo Toure, Bony, and Drogba... then it would have been a great offensive show for the knockout round. If only the head coach had gotten his starting line-up right (or just kept it constant). Drogba came in as Super Sub in the 2 previous games, but was started in Game 3.
This kill shot didn't work. But a comeback over Greece almost got them in with the draw...
Yeah, that didn't go well either in stoppage time...
It has to be seen to believed...
So, Greece advances to the knockout stages for the first time with the 2-1 win...
Bully for them...

OSG Prem: ManCity Closer, Sunderland Even Closer Than That
((HT: BPL on NBCSN/BBC Sport))
It took an hour, but Manchester City finally got the best of Aston Villa and poured it on in the last 30 for a 4-0 win at home setting up the idea that they'll only need a point Sunday in the game against West Ham.
Dzeko scored the first two and then, Jovetic and Yaya Toure scored in the last five minutes for a clinical and professional win.
Here's your highlights...
And just so you know, Yaya Toure's goal now makes him just the second central midfielder to score 20 or more goals in a single EPL season.
At the other side of the table, Sunderland decided to put it all to rest as they scored a 2-0 win over West Brom. The Black Cats were at the bottom of the table at Christmas and have claimed safety with a game to spare. A lot of assistance came from Liverpool loanee Fabio Borini
In reality, Norwich is relegated even with a win on Sunday since the goal differential with the Baggies is substantial. West Brom plays Stoke in a game that should be low-scoring. Norwich hosts Arsenal.

OSG Prem: Mourinho Does It Again...Man City Closes The Gap
((HT: NBCSN/BBC/SkySports))
So...
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho poo-pooed his whole week- told his Board he needed to prepare for Champions League play and asked to put a "B" side in against Liverpool... telling everyone the title is Liverpool's (or Man City's)...
Who's the dumb one now...???
After a deadly slip on defense in the first half by Steven Gerrard and a transitional goal in extra time by Willian, Chelsea tightens the race at the top and gives Man City the opening they needed all along...
And Mourinho afterwards was, well, Classic Mourinho...
Elsewhere, Sunderland- behind Connor Wickham again whacked Cardiff to escape the bottom of the table 4-0...
And Manchester City got within three points of Liverpool with a game in hand with their win at Crystal Palace. Dzeko scored in the fourth minute and Yaya Toure went through the Palace defense for the 2-0 lead at the break. They never looked back in the win at Selhurst Park...
Here's the Toure screamer...

OSG Prem: The Top Stays Top, Except For Arsenal...
((HT: BPL on NBC/SkySports))
It was an unbelievable first twenty minutes for Chelsea against Arsenal...
Earlier in the week The Chosen One (Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho) maintained that his counterpart, Arsene Wenger, was only good at being a "specialist in failure." He kept pushing buttons and made sure everyone was on edge as the game started...
Eto'o and Schurrle made it 2-0 in the first 8 minutes, and then an odd call from referee Andre Marriner gave a red to Kieran Gibbs instead of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain- who lobbied for it and still wasn't given the dismissal...
The red card will be transferred to AOC from Gibbs on Monday, by the way...
And the final was 6-0...congrats to Arsene Wenger in his 1000th appearance as manager... (???)
Mourinho still believes the title is Man City's to lose and after today's display against Fulham, who can really complain about that assessment. Yaya Toure scored on two PK's early on before this strike from the outside gave him his hat trick in a 5-0 win over Fulham...
Not to be outdone, Luis Suarez and Liverpool had their hands full with Cardiff for the first 55 minutes or so, then the Reds took over winning 6-3 as Suarez had a hat trick himself to go with Skrtel and Sturridge
Elsewhere, Hull City shut out West Brom 2-0, Everton held off Swansea 3-2 to keep a look at the Europa qualifier, Newcastle's Cisse scored near the death and dedicated the goal to suspended manger Alan Pardew in a big win over Crystal Palace, Norwich shut out Sunderland 2-0 as well, but the interesting story line late came from West Ham and Manchester United.
Rooney's 50-yarder on Adrian gave the Red Devils enough momentum to pull out a 2-0 win themselves...
Here's the goal- again- because we can... and Beckham's reaction was priceless...

More Racist Chants During Champ League (UPDATED)
((HT: Manchester City TV))
Not that this is a surprise or anything... it's just the most recent version of it...
Both UEFA and FIFA have big initiatives including their biggest stars trying to block out any kind of racism and racist chants during games at the sport's biggest stars...
This time, it was Manchester City's Yaya Toure hearing it from CSKA Moscow's fans...
Here's City TV's interview with Yaya after the match...
Russian soccer fans have a history of doing these kinds of silly things thinking that they're cool and all that...
But, they're really not...
And, sadly, the HQ doesn't think this is going to stop any time soon...
THURSDAY UPDATE: CSKA is, of course, denying anything happened...
"There was a lot of noise in the stadium. Nobody else, other than Yaya Toure, heard anything. The only trouble that has come about was because Yaya Toure heard something," CSKA's deputy media manager Michael Sanadze said.
UEFA said on Thursday morning: "We are awaiting the reports from the match which should land at some point today or tomorrow.
"Once received, the contents will determine whether a disciplinary case be opened. Should this be the case, we will communicate accordingly."

City Takes Community Shield
((HT: BBC/FA/youtube))
The HQ guesses that you could call this the unofficial start of the football season...
The Premier League starts off next Saturday along with every other squad...
Manchester City and Chelsea took on each other at the odd place- Villa Park- for the obvious reason...
The Blues scored the first goal with Fernando Torres, and the last goal in the 3-2 loss to City. But when the garnet-clad Citizens (yes, the HQ knows they looked a bit odd) scored all the ones in the middle...
Here's the Yaya Toure game-leader early in the second 45...
Chelsea gets Wigan next Saturday while City gets Southampton
