The weird thing about the whole exchange was that Weligton and Pique each got yellows when a red card REALLY would have been appropriate.

Barcelona were held without a shot on goal in a league game for the first time in the past 11 seasons...

Can Eibar Seal La Liga Promotion In Time?

Here's one for the little guy... hopefully...
Eibar got another home win a few days ago with a win over Deportivo Alaves

Eibar secured promotion from the Secunda League, but they have one of the smallest stadia in the competitive ranks in La Liga with a gate a little over 5,000. They need to raise almost 2-million Euros by early August to meet all the financial obligations they need to meet- and there are, apparently, a lot of them.
Sid Lowe, over at ESPN.com, has the by-law in question:
According to the law -- Real Decreto 1251/1999, which became applicable to Eibar when they were promoted to the Second Division in the summer and thus took their place in what is formally classified as professional football -- every team has to have a capital equal to 25 percent of the average expenses of all the teams in the Second Division, not including the two clubs with the biggest outgoings and the two clubs with the smallest outgoings in the division.
In theory it is a way of guaranteeing the survival of clubs but in practice, it could cripple Eibar.
Eibar is operating in the black, but might have to get some big investors (or a lot of little ones) when the shares come out.
Count the HQ in at 50 Euros a piece when available...

BREAKING La Liga: Stands Collapse During Real Betis-Osasuna Match

It's relegation day in La Liga, the Spanish soccer league and as is their wont, all teams that are in the relegation battle start their games simultaneously.
The Real Betis-Osasuna match is a must-win for Osasuna as Real is already relegated.
In the 15th minute, when the home team scored the end zone stands where supporters were standing collapsed in the crush of celebration. The game was suspended as, early on, players for both teams were trying to evacuate the injured out from under the crush of fans trying to gather themselves.
Here's video of the incident...
The game was suspended pending the clearing of the injured and the stadium accident and resumed a half-hour after the accident. There was no immediate word of any serious injuries from Red Cross personnel on site.

Yellow-jacketed security guards were positioned in the end zone to replace the fencing and keep fans off the pitch. With the 35 minutes delay, all La Liga matches decided to take the delay and finish simultaneously.

1430 UPDATE: Osasuna would go on to beat Betis 2-1, but they will be relegated along with Valladolid after their 1-0 loss to Grenada. Almeria and Getafe stay up with their efforts.

La Liga: Diop Dances To Go After Racist Chants

Levante surprised Atletico Madrid 2-0 in La Liga action as the team came out flat after their Champions League semi this week against Chelsea...
And, as is the fans wont these days, there are some who think the best way to go after their rival players is to do some really stupid, racist chants...
Pape Diop was the Atleti fan's target, but he wouldn't have any of it...
They called the Senegali national a monkey, so he responded to their chant with a dance to draw attention to their idiocy...
Classy...
Marca caught up with Diop afterwards, translated:
"They called me monkey and I turned and imitated a monkey," said midfielder granota whole. "I'm tired of racism in football. And there's a lot."
"I made the monkey dance to play the matter. Wanted people to know what happened," said Diop, whose gesture provoked the anger of the fans and some Atletico players.
"I do not know if it's racist or disrespectful, but they have to finish the screaming monkey made by some," said Levante player, who claimed to have been subjected to racist abuse from the fans of Atletico "throughout the game."
First Dani Alves, now Diop... Hopefully, it sends a message to FIFA. But the HQ doubts it...

The team was still mourning the loss of former coach Tito Villanova in his fight with cancer and Dani Alves, during the match, had a banana thrown at him...
The response was classic...
Barca won in come-from-behind fashion, 3-2, and the HQ hopes that the next game Villareal has at home will have less fans as a result of this stupidity...

When Benzema put Real Madrid in front of Barcelona 2-1, you thought it was going to be a two-team race for the top of the La Liga ladder. But if you thought that, you were sadly mistaken...
A Messi hat trick (of course) put FCB in front for a hotly and highly-contested 4-3 final that puts these two teams and Athletico Madrid all separated by one point in the top of the table...
Here's the goals...
Cristiano, of course, after the match felt he wuz robbed...via Football Espana
“We played against 12. It's always the same. They don't allow us. Maybe they wanted Barca back in the League. I don't want to leave this inside of me and I’m not looking for excuses, but the ref is not at the required level for a game like this. If Barca lost today they would have been out. After five years here, I understand how things work."
He also promised the team would win the league and feels Real Madrid never gets their calls in game...

This Loss Could Cost Barca The Title...

All it took was Fausto Rossi's first of the season 16 minutes in to make the HQ wonder what may really be wrong with Lionel Messi...
Valladolid's shocker 1-0 win over Barca may cost them the title down the line...
Now, it's up to Atletico Madrid, who visit Celta Vigo later on Saturday, and Real Madrid, who host Levante on Sunday to figure out how the standings will shake out after this weekend...

La Liga Match Suspended By Smoke Bomb

This, sadly, is more commonplace than the HQ would like but the Celta Vigo-Villareal match was suspended by 20 minutes in the second half by one of these...
Celta Vigo win, which was a surprise, and everyone was bent:
"This experience has been crap, pardon the expression," Villareal coach Marcelino said after the match. "There are attitudes that sometimes humans do not understand and this is one of them. The most positive thing is not to discuss this issue."
Villarreal president Fernando Roig condemned the action and apologized:
"Villarreal deplores and condemns what happened. We are convinced that this is a person who is outside of Villarreal and has specifically come to harm the club. We are making all appropriate inquiries and hope to be able to identify as soon as possible to the perpetrator and come down on him with the full weight of the law.
"Such acts do not represent the fans of Villarreal. The club wants to apologize and to acknowledge the work of the security forces in the evacuation."

Just How Bad Will It Get For Atletico After CR7 Crowned By Lighter...???

First off, this is flat stupid by Atleti fans during their Copa loss to Real Madrid...
Something could have happened that could have seriously injured one of the world's greatest footballers...
"I think the consequences could be serious because it could have hurt a player," Real's keeper, Iker Casillas, told Real's website. "There is always someone who tries to smear the image of a club like Atletico and it doesn’t reflect how the majority of their fans are."
The match ref put the crowning in his post-match report and Atleti could be fined up to €30,000 and have their ground closed for one to three games...
