Follow Up: Florida State Releases New Look (We reported this two weeks ago)

We first told you about this happening back on March 27th. We were one of the very first outlets to report that Florida State was about to do a major overhaul to their athletic team logos and jerseys.

A reminder RIGHT HERE

Sorry, we don't get to brag much.

Anyway, if you look at the video in that link, the release date says 4/11/14. Well, today is 4/11/14 and the new look has been revealed.

And the reviews thus far have been pretty darn good.

Take a look at the football helmets:

And the football jerseys:

The overhaul includes all the school's sports teams, but you'll have to go look those pictures up. The overahaul is courtesy of Nike, and both the school and the manufacturer are no doubt expecting a windfall in merchandise sales.

Really...

It might be going well. It might not...

The HQ doesn't like it one damn bit...unless you're talking about the San Francisco Demons jerseys that just got ripped off...

Oregon Football Players Get and Appear To Be Selling New Air Jordans

((ht:bizjournals.com/portland))

Hmmm….what was that argument about college football players needing to get stipends or paid?

It appears, according to a report in the Portland (OR) Business Journal that at least one lucky University of Oregon football player or someone related to one,  has a pair of the new "Limited Edition" Air Jordan sneakers on sale on EBay.

We don't know for absolute certain that it's an actual Oregon Football player selling the shoes…but. The shoes are apparently part of some "Player Exclusives" given to the football team by team owner…um…I mean Nike magnate Phil Knight or at least his representatives.

And yes, it's an NCAA violation if this in fact is an athlete selling the shoes. The Business Journal did contact the University who said they are monitoring but all inventory are accounted for as far as they know.

Read the entire story RIGHT HERE

Okay, so does anyone else find it amusing that there are apparently some 43 active auctions of similar shoes…that were supposed to be "Limited Editions" or "Player Exclusives"?

And for that matter, is there not a restriction on Nike granting athletes multiple pairs of shoes selling for a LOT of money? Money they would not have themselves?

And if only "Select" athletes get them, who decides who is in that group? While we certainly aren't against the whole "Stipend" thing, this is a bit excessive? No regular students have access to these. Heck, it appears a lot of athletes don't.

Just some of the many questions sitting out there. And no, we don't begrudge Oregon for taking advantage of the team owner's benevolent gift giving at all.

Would you?

ICYMI: Forbes Article Cost Cam Newton $10K for Illegal Logo

Sponsorship deals are so wrong. And in theory, being featured in Forbes magazine should be "so right" for Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton.

And maybe it was, but the interview Newton did, along with the accompanying photos, ended up costing him $10,000.

The reason: A photo taken during the interview that showed a couple of blacked out Under Armour visor clips.

The problem: Under Armour is not an NFL approved product. (They don't bow and pay the league millions to be an "official product")

And yes "Business" people, we get it. If you are Nike and you pay $1 billion to be the "equipment" sponsor for the league, you don't want anyone showing products other than yours.

But flat out, it's stupid. You should be able to wear whatever you want. Unless you...well...never mind.

What Should I Do: Re-Post This Hilarious Johnny Manziel Spoof

((ht: thefarmclub.net))

Oh, this will be the funniest college football video you'll see today.

Check out this Johnny Manziel/Johnny Football spoof video produced by thinksquaredmedia.com. It's a riff on the LeBron James "What should I do?" commercial from a couple of years ago.

And yes, it pokes fun at pretty much everything that the Texas A&M quarterback and defending Heisman Trophy Winner has made headlines for this summer.

Watch and behold:

DEVELOPING: Armstrong Out At Livestrong, Nike Severs Ties

In the next step in the Lance Armstrong-Nike, did he or didn't he, non-denial-denial act from the fallout in the USADA doping allegations, two more actions have come forward.

First, Nike has severed ties with Lance while, at the same time, making sure they say something positive about his efforts with the Livestrong Foundation...

In a carefully-worded statement, the Swoosh said:

"Due to the seemingly insurmountable evidence that Lance Armstrong participated in doping and misled Nike for more than a decade, it is with great sadness that we have terminated our contract with him. Nike does not condone the use of illegal performance enhancing drugs in any manner. Nike plans to continue support of the Livestrong initiatives created to unite, inspire and empower people affected by cancer."

Here's Lance giving a speech at the World Cancer Congress from the 29th... days after the revelation...
((HT: GlobalNational))

At the same time, Lance has announced his duties leading the board will be turned over to vice chairman Jeff Garvey, who was founding chairman of Livestrong back in 1997.

"This organization, its mission and its supporters are incredibly dear to my heart," Armstrong said in a statement. "Today therefore, to spare the foundation any negative effects as a result of controversy surrounding my cycling career, I will conclude my chairmanship."

Garvey also takes over the public appearance duties that Armstrong had done tirelessly...

More when we know more...
