Chattanooga Race Has Marathon Record, Except It's Not...

((HT: WRCB-TV))

Tabatha Hamilton won a marathon in the Chattanooga area over the weekend.

Her time was absolutely amazing- a world record by more than two full minutes. But there's an issue. Hamilton was disqualfied because of her time that was registered through her chip and her splits.

She would have run the back half of her marathon in less than 50 minutes- beating the men's record in the half and shattering the women's record by almost ten minutes.

Michelle Heron actually found Hamilton to find out her side of the story...
WRCBtv.com | Chattanooga News, Weather

Zersenday Tadese has the men's record at 58:23

While Florence Kiplagat has the women's mark at 65:12 this past February in Barcelona

If Hamilton got the win, good for her... But the whole chip-thing...???

The HQ isn't holding it's breath...

Morgan Shepherd Attempting To Qualify For Daytona

((HT: ESPN))

And, in doing it, Morgan Shepherd would break his own record...

Shepherd turned 72 in October and will try to qualify for the Daytona 500 in the No. 93 Support Military Foundation Toyota with BK Racing.

Shepherd ran at New Hampshire last July- his first Cup race since 2006. Shepherd ran eight Nationwide Series races last season- earning a little over $100,000. He also ran one truck race, at Texas, finishing 34th...

Shepherd has started 15 Daytona 500-, with a career-best finish of second in 1992 in the Wood Brothers #21.

Here's an interview Shepherd did with Ricky Craven around the qualifying run last year at NHMS...

The HQ wishes the most luck to Shepherd and hope he makes the field...

Your World Record Basketball Shot of the Day

((ht: nbcsports.com))

Top this Dude Perfect....

A group of guys in Rotterdam appear to have set a new world record for highest made basketball shot.

They made their 62nd attempt at drawing a little "String Music"... 98 meters (not sure of the conversion rate) above the earth on the "Euromast"...

You Don't Want $80M...?? Okay, How About $85M??? Bale Not Real's Yet...

The HQ, admittedly, is a novice at this whole soccer football thing...

But we do know that Tottenham Hotspurs Gareth Bale had a flat-out ridiculous season last year...
It was a coming out party...
Evidence below...
((HT: EPL))

It's no secret that Real Madrid are making some kind of play for him- even as Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas is denying that he'll go (or not) and that the transfer fee Real is ponying up has increased up to a world-record 100-million euros (or 86.3-million pounds)...

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has refused the offer flat and Bale is hot about it- in a bad way...

From the Guardian newspaper:
The situation has got under Bale's skin and it is threatening to turn ugly. He has had a glute muscle problem, which has restricted him in pre-season, but it has come to feel slightly convenient as he has been in no frame of mind to play. Bale featured in the club's opening friendly against Swindon Town but he missed the game against Colchester United and, although he travelled to Hong Kong for the Asia Trophy, he has not trained and he missed Tottenham's matches against Sunderland and South China.

After a 6-0 win in China, AVB wouldn't say anything on the ongoings...

"I don't want to comment on anything like that," Villas-Boas said. "I cannot speak about anything." The manager gave the same response to a question about Real's conduct.

Spurs are trying to shore up their scoring in case of a Bale exit. In the off-season, they are close to wrapping up the €30-million transfer order on Valencia striker Roberto Soldado. They have already signed the midfielder Paulinho for a club-record £17m from Corinthians and the winger Nacer Chadli for £7m from FC Twente.

But, that won't add up to Bale...

Zinedine Zidane (remember his head butt in the Worlds?) is now part of Real's front office and admits what everyone seems to know- except, maybe, Spurs:

“We have not given up on Gareth Bale – it is impossible to give up a player of that quality.

“Of course Tottenham are doing the right thing by trying to get him to sign a new contract.

“We have made it clear he is a target, but Real Madrid have a very good relationship with Tottenham so we would make sure any approach is done in the correct way.

“It is ideal to get any new players in as early as possible so they can integrate with the team – but it is not always possible and the best players are worth waiting for.”

And the HQ thinks this is only the beginning as the next move is, probably, a written request to go by Bale himself...

Chris Gayle Shatters Century Records In Cricket

((HT: IPL))

For those not familiar, the most base comparison is to make cricket like either batting practice or Home Run Derby...

For Chris Gayle today, it was the both...

Gayle, in Twenty20 play today, scored the fastest "century" (or 100-point total) in league history- only needing 30 at-bats to pull the feat off. Gayle took four balls less than Kent's Andrew Symonds in a Twenty20 game against Middlesex in 2004.

Gayle told ITV4 afterwards: "I'm lost for words. It was just one of those days. It's a good wicket and I started well. I got a good total. I can't say it's a decent total - it's a good total."

Here's the highlights...

Purists call the IPL "cartoon cricket" because of all the different rules changes that promote scoring... and, a lot of the purists shook their heads over what happened today...

OSG High: McKissick Gets Win 600

((HT: WCBD-TV, Charleston SC))

He's 86 years old and is showing no signs of stopping...

John McKissick, the head coach at Summerville (SC) High, recently got his 600th career win for the squad in his 61st season of coaching...

Think about that for a second...

61 seasons... first-year would have been 1952...

Braves in Milwaukee, the last year of the Truman administration, the Lakers were in Minneapolis, and the Dodgers were in Brooklyn...

THAT 1952...

McKissick is 600-147-3 and has had only two squads under .500 THE ENTIRE TIME...

The HQ is pretty tight with the coach who is number three on the national list- Lincoln County (GA) High's Larry Campbell who, in his 41st season, is 466-80-3 (only 134 wins behind). The coach who is second is John Curtis with 514 wins at his own high school namesake in Louisiana... in 44 seasons...

Here's a post-game report live from Summerville...

Here's the top ten list... thanks to our friends at FootballFridayNight.com

John McKissick 600-147-3
John T. Curtis 514-54-6
Larry Campbell 466-80-3
Mike Smith 436-70-2
G. A. Moore 423-97-9
George Curry 421-92-5
Corky Rogers 421-72-1
Al Fracassa 412-117-7
Pete Atkins 405-60-4
Dick Tighe 400-154-8

Cal-Irvine Sets Dodgeball Record

((HT: KABC-TV))

The HQ will openly admit it...

We played dodgeball during our formative years...

And, yes, we hear the collective laughter amongst the stars as you all say "formative years...???"

Anyhoo...

We played both dodgeball and bombardment (the version where you could catch the ball when thrown and the thrower would be retired to the sidelines... once that happened, they could receive the ball from teammates still in play and peg you with it all over again...)

And the kids at Cal-Irvine set a world record the other day for most participants in one such game...

David Ono and Ellen Leyva continue...

In Case You Missed It: Surfer breaks record for riding biggest wave

((ht: nbcsports.com))

Okay, this is just badass. Plain and simple.

Garrett McNamara of Hawaii either is crazy, has a death wish or is the most talented surfer alive.

Either way, you have to watch this video of McNamara appearing to break a record for riding/surfing the largest wave off the coast of Portugal.

The wave was estimated at 78-plus feet and McNamara gets a lift into the tube, and with the help of a GoPro camera, is shown sliding through the tube...and out the other side.

And yes, it appears Guiness is going to certify this as a World Record. And you know what....even if it wasn't...it is pretty damn impressive.
