DEVELOPING: Black Monday Begins: Ryan and Idzik Fired

((HT: NJ.com/SNY))

Surprising no one, really, Black Monday begins with a dual firing in New York with both head coach Rex Ryan and GM John Idzik being shown their walking papers.

Owner Woody Johnson has long been known for wanting to clean house and he went two levels on a team that seemed ill-fitted to compete in the AFC- until yesterday with their fun performance and win over the Miami Dolphins

Here's his game ball presentation

And his addressing the media after the game

Looks Like Mike Gillis Gives Himself One More Year

((HT: Sportsnet))

The trade the HQ talked about behind the bench before the New York Rangers-Vancouver Canucks game involving Alain Vigneault and John Tortorella has now moved from the idiot stage to the stage where it looks like Torts is on a short clock.

Daniel Sedin has done the captainly thing and taken blame for the season that has gone sideways. Injuries have played a big part of it as they've made a 6-point hole for themselves in the wild card with five games to go.

It isn't looking good for GM Mike Gillis, but as GM's can do... they can blame others before they take the blame themselves. A coaching change will move things along a season at a time as a last ditch move.

But it will only buy Gillis a year with the Aquilini brothers...

OSG Prem: Laudrup Seeks Legal Advice After Sacking

((HT: Sky Sports))

As if anything could go any MORE wrong when it comes to the sacking of the Swansea City manager...

Michael Laudrup had only won one of his last nine and injuries (and a lack of offense) had pinned him in to try and win a lot of matches 1-0 this year. It was a team not capable of coming from behind all that well with injuries to last year's leading scorer, Michu, and starting keeper Michael Worm

The win in the Capital One Cup over Bradford City seems like a distant memory now...
So, let's show it...

Laudrup has now confirmed through a statement released by the League Manager's Association (LMA) that he may go all legal on Swansea as a response:

"I am deeply disappointed to have been dismissed as manager of Swansea City," he said in the statement. "In particular, the manner in which it happened and the actions the club has taken since notifying me in the briefest of letters which gave no reasons why such hasty and final action was deemed necessary."

The team is currently 12th in the table, but the drop zone is within a game or so of seven different teams that aren't there now...

And next up for Swansea is the Welsh derby with Cardiff this weekend...

Poyet Confirms Taking Brighton To Court Over Firing

Or "sacking" as they call it overseas...

Gus Poyet has confirmed he's taking his old club, Brighton and Hove Albion, to court...

Poyet was suspended after their play-off semi-final defeat to Crystal Palace before being sacked for gross misconduct in June. BHA chairman Tony Bloom claimed Poyet informed him back in March that he wanted to leave the club at the end of last season- even as Poyet was under contract until 2016.

Poyet said: "There are several reasons but unfortunately this will probably go to court. Because I totally disagree with every allegation and accusation the club has put on me. I will take action because I think it's important for me. I'm quite confident and relaxed but I hope we will go to court because it is the best way for the truth to come out.

"But I think I deserve better respect and the way they sacked me when I was on TV was disrespectful and unfair."

See for yourself...

It'll be interesting to see just how this plays out...

OSG Prem: Warnock Not A Fan Of Leeds Fans

((HT: FA Cup/youtube))

Manchester City is rolling right now in the FA Cup...

They took it to Leeds United 4-0 after pairing Yaya Toure, Tevez, and Aguero up front for the first time since the pre-season.

During the latter stages at the game, Leeds fans jumped on manager Neil Warnock chanting "Warnock- time to go" in their fan's end as the game came to a close.

"I don't deserve that (abuse) after the year I have had, but I am unlucky to have been at three clubs with three takeovers," he said.

"I understand their feelings and the noise they make shows what sort of club it is. If we go up, the owners know I won't be here and the further away we get (from promotion) the club will be looking to see what they're going to do and, if I can, I will help them."

Here's Warnock after the loss...

Warnock has been involved with 8 straight promotion opportunities and Leeds United is eight points away from the playoff picture in the Championship.

Joker Phillips Would Like to Stay... But...

((HT: Scott Anderson))

This is what the head coach of the University of Kentucky said when he was asked about his job security and/or future after the 40-0 loss to Vanderbilt...

It was the worst loss to Vanderbilt since 1916- which can't go over well in Lexington...

The players are standing by Joker Phillips regardless of the end result on the field...

From WKYT-TV and their post-game:

"Joker means a lot. He's our head coach," linebacker Avery Williamson said. "I like him personally, as a guy, outside of coaching. He's going to stay strong for us, so we're going to stay strong for him."

"It's just not a good feeling," quarterback Jalen Whitlow said. "You've got to love your coaches. We've got good coaches."

The loss sent UK to 1-9 and 0-7...

Samford is next on their schedule on the 17th- the HQ guesses it's the homecoming game when Pat Sullivan comes to town...

So, it looks like the Wildcats may go 2-10 and Phillips will, probably, join Gene Chizik, and Derek Dooley with buyouts and/or unemployment come the end of the season.

Unemployment Watch Begins On The Plains After Ole Miss Loss

((HT: al.com))

In talking with TBH and her group that went to The Grove, they are under the impression that Auburn Offensive Coordinator Scot Loeffler should walk back to campus from Oxford, clean out his office, and make sure that he doesn't return.

Heading back to Temple to coach wouldn't be a bad idea, either...

Ole Miss snapped a 16-game Ess-E-Cee losing streak and beat the Tigers 41-20 continuing the impending thoughts on campus that current head coach Gene Chizik and his staff are not going to make it out of the season alive as a lot.

And there are even rumblings among the faithful that Athletic Director Jay Jacobs needs to be short for the world at his current employ as well.

Center Tunde Fariyike showed early nervousness in his second start at center- a bad snap led to the Rebels second score and the game was actually close in the fourth quarter at 24-20, but the home team answered with 17 of their own.

Clint Moseley started at quarterback and the discussions will continue as to whether it will be him of Kiehl Frazier next week. Frazier, allegedly, was held out of the lineup because of an injury that hindered his ability to throw.

Most Auburn fans, hearing that, thought that the injury was between Frazier's ears...

Here's Loeffler discussing his early optimism...
Coach Chizik is concerned about his team's psyche right now and the second-thoughts going on in their brain... "It's hard for them not to. Bottom line, we've got to do our best job as coaches to keep this team unified, to keep this working."
Jerry Palm, optimistically, has the 1-5 Tigers playing Arkansas State in the bowl game in Birmingham... the HQ isn't that optimistic and thinks that bowl committee should look elsewhere post haste...

And any ideas on a Chizik buyout can look a little ominous at $7-million, but that number is continually pro-rated and, if Chizik gets another job, what's left in the kitty stays on the table.
