NJIT Upsets Michigan: Yeah, We Didn't Have That One, Either

((HT: BTN))

After Yale knocked off UConn yesterday, the HQ thought that this end of the college hoops season might be one of THOSE college basketball seasons.

We might be right...

NJIT (the New Jersey Institute of Technology) has been a traditional doormat since they promoted themselves up to Division I athletics. They've been around D1 since 2006-07 and, at one point, lost 51 in a row in their transitional phase. But the losing streak doesn't count in the stacks because of the classification.

As the only independent in D1, they have to take a lot of road game paychecks- one of them is the game at Crisler Arena against Michigan this afternoon. The end result comes up as one of the early season shockers.

Josh Lewin and Stephen Bardo have the recap

When you hit almost 60-percent from the floor and you're good from three-point, this is what you get sometimes...

Good for the Highlanders...

Here's how the voice of the Highlanders Matt Provence called the end of the game.

Indiana Hoosier Basketball Player Injured In Accident by Teammate

((ht: indystar.com))

Devin Davis, a sophomore basketball player at Indiana University is in serious condition in a Bloomington, IN hospital after an early Saturday morning accident with a car.

Davis, according to reports, was injured by a car driven by teammate Emmit Holt as Davis was getting out of Holt's car.

No indication yet as to how Davis was so seriously hurt from an apparently slow-moving car. Holt was given a blood-alcohol test on the scene and charged with illegal consumption and operating a vehicle with a B.A.C of over .02. (.025).

Hoosier head coach Tom Crean spent the early morning with Davis at the hospital and the University has cancelled it's open practice and scrimmage, along with their annual Haunted Hall of Hoops event.

Here's the press release from the school:

"Early this morning, an accident occurred on the Indiana University campus involving two of the school’s basketball players.  Based on preliminary information, sophomore Devin Davis was injured after being struck by a vehicle driven by teammate freshman Emmitt Holt, just moments after exiting that vehicle.  Davis was taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital and is currently in serious condition. Holt was cited for illegal consumption and operating a vehicle with a BAC above 0.02.   Holt had a BAC of 0.025.     “First and foremost, our thoughts are with Devin and his family and we pray that his condition improves in the coming days,” said IU Coach Tom Crean.  “An injury to one of us is an injury to all of us and we are devastated by the news.  We will continue to support Devin and Emmitt in every possible way and I know the Hoosier family will come together to rally for these young men.  We are working to gather additional information on the accident.”

Indiana Hoosiers No Respect For CBI

[HT: Indianapolis Star]

The Indiana Hoosiers finished 17-15 and will not be playing in the post season.

It's not like they weren't wanted.

Yes Indiana didn't receive and NCAA Tournament bid which was expected.

The NIT didn't select the Hoosiers either.

The CBI?  Indiana athletic director Fred Glass killed that chance.

Got that.

Here's who is playing in the CBI.

Traevon Jackson Does It Again

((HT: Big Ten Network/CBS))

The Wisconsin shooter has a history of dragging the opposition down with his skills from the outside...

Examples: Penn State, Minnesota, taking Iowa to overtime, et cetera... et cetera... et cetera...

He did it again Sunday with this shot against Michigan State... and it wasn't the end of the game...

Long Night For Ranked Teams In The B1G

((HT: BTN))

Two huge Big Ten upsets last night...

Penn State won in Columbus for the first time in a decade with a 71-70 win over Ohio State in overtime. DJ Newbill's jumper with two seconds left in overtime was the difference there...

And Northwestern followed with another huge upset, a 65-56 victory over No. 14 Wisconsin in Madison.
It was Northwestern's first win in Madison since 1996...

And Wisconsin head coach Bo Ryan gave this answer when asked about the 3-point shooting of Northwestern that put the Wildcats out on the horizon early and kept Wisconsin doing nothing but catching up...

McCaffrey Apologizes For Epic Nutty

((HT: ESPN/Katz))

Let's start by showing you what went down in the loss to Wisconsin...

He officially apologized and AD Gary Barta came out with a prepared statement...

"I've met with Coach McCaffery regarding last night's ejection from the game in Madison. He knows he crossed a line of acceptable behavior and accepts responsibility for his actions.

"All staff at the University of Iowa fully support the Big Ten Conference's sportsmanship policy's fundamental elements, including civility and respect toward opponents and game officials. Fran has my full support moving forward."

McCaffrey talked to Andy Katz:

"There were a couple of calls there that I had taken exception to and felt like 'I gotta change this thing a little bit.' I got the T. The thing that I regret was getting the second T. I didn't want to get the second T. It was not my intention and it impacted the game in a way that wasn't good for our team.

"Anytime a coach does something like that, you feel horrible about it because you don't ever want to do anything other than to help your team win a game. I felt like we needed a shift -- we needed something to change -- and my intention was to do that but not get the second T. I feel terrible about that."
