A Division III record was set when Rose Hulman and Illinois College played a 74-68 game in triple overtime- most combined points in a game.
Here are the details from Rose-Hulman their own selves:
Rose-Hulman set school records for total offense in a game (824 yards), passing yards in a game (603), touchdown passes (7) and total plays run (114). Illinois College also made history with 745 yards of total offense.
The two teams combined for 1,569 yards of total offense, 1,138 yards of passing offense and 77 first downs in a game that tied the longest contest in Rose-Hulman football history at three overtimes.
Both teams also set the NCAA Division III single game record for offensive plays in a game. Illinois College holds the new national record with 117 offensive plays, Rose-Hulman ran 114 and the two teams combined for a new mark of 231 plays from scrimmage.
Here's head coach Jeff Sokol on the win
Austin Swenson threw for 603 yards and 7 TD's off a 37-for-60 performance
Greg Lee had 162 yards rushing for the Figthing Engineers and talked about the game-winning score
The HQ actually found highlights, thanks to our friends at WTWO-TV

The Good And The Bad In Thursday College Football Record Breaking
((HT: ESPN))
First, let's go with the good... well, "good" if you're a fan of Texas A&M-Commerce
98 points, 986 yards of total offense and a 78-point win over East Texas Baptist
Here's the short version...
Not surprisingly, the 986 yards is an NCAA Division II record for total offense. They also set Lone Star Conference records for points scored with 98, tied the touchdown record with 13, broke the record for the most point after attempts with 13 and tied the record with 11 PATs made. A&M-Commerce set a record for most points in a half with 57.
On the flip side, NCAA DII South Atlantic Conference power Tusculum allowed (or "didn't allow?") minus-100 total yards and minus-124 yards rushing to set the NCAA single-game records in a 71-0 victory over the College of Faith.
Here's what Tusculum thought about the match-up before the game
((HT: Tusculum Athletics))
The previous record was minus-69, by Division II school Fort Valley State against Miles in 1993. The previous record for fewest yards rushing allowed was minus-112, by Division III program Coast Guard against Wesleyan (Connecticut) in 1989.
Tusculum beat Faith last year 63-0 and here's the Frankie DeBusk show from that week

ICYMI: Penn State Baseball: Two Triple Plays in One Game
No really, this happened.
Not once...but twice. In the same game.
Check out the video from Friday's Penn State/Michigan State baseball game. It's not often you see a triple play in a baseball game. But in this game it happened twice.
In the 4th and in the 8th inning, a Michigan State hitter came to the plate with runners on and lined out. The baserunners, thinking the ball was going to go through, were on the move.
The rest is, well, video history. Though we should note, the pair of triple plays did not set, only tied an NCAA record
We should also add, despite the baserunning blunders, Michigan State still won the game, which was the 1st game of a doubleheader, 4-2. For whatever that's worth.
Ha!
Here's your highlights from GoPSUTV:

And Another 5-12 Goes To Stephen F. Austin
With all apologies up front to Richmond sports talk show host and FOSG Greg Burton...
VCU got bit, too...
A lot of people are wondering where the foul came from with VCU leading four as time ran out in regulation...
Frankly, the HQ can't find it... but here's the play in question...
((HT: NCAA March Madness/SnappyTV))
Desmond Haymond gets credit for the four-point play and with this game being the fifth OT game of the opening rounds- according to the Elias Sports Bureau, that sets the record for the most OT games in the opening two days.
There were two previous Round of 64's with 4 overtime games: 1995 and 2000.
And when you win, you celebrate in your locker room...

Southern-Champion Baptist: The Day After
((HT: WAFB-TV))
First off, here's the highlights... if you're a Southern fan or something...
WAFB 9 News Baton Rouge, Louisiana News, Weather, Sports
For the record, the Jags broke the NCAA record that Seton Hall had when they scored the first 34 points against Kean College on November 19th, 1998.
The largest margin for victory is Long Island University beating Medgar Evers 179-62 on November 26th, 1997. The Southern win is now the third widest all-time margin...
Tre Lynch seemed less than apologetic in his quote in the Baton Rouge Advocate to Charles Salzer:
“If we come out and do what we do then leads can get like that,” Lynch said. “We don’t try and look at the score. We just play our game and, God bless us, if the lead gets like that then so be it.”
Gee, thanks...
“Defensively I felt like we played aggressive, we played hard and that’s a pretty good showing for us against a D-1 school,” CBC coach Eric Capaci told Salzer. “Offensively, we just did not show up. We missed our free throws, and missed a lot of easy lay ups.
“(Southern) is big and tall, but we still should have dropped some more buckets.”
Well, okay then... what, exactly, did you tell your son in the locker room since he was one of your bench players...???
Southern AD William J. Broussard was asked why they scheduled CBC. He talked about them playing four other D1 schools and that it's hard scheduling bigger schools when you're Southern.
"I assume it's a budget balancer for them as well," he said.
And...scene...
Oh, here's Salzer discussing what he saw with ESPN
Jeff Goodman of ESPN.com caught up with Southern head coach Roman Banks, who claimed he didn't know how out of control it got:
"You're worried about the psyche of the team even though we played well against some of those teams," Banks said. "You can lose your confidence. This game was all about us. I was surprised at how well we played defensively, and it led to a bunch of transition baskets."

DEVELOPING: Southern U. Setting Record As We Speak (UPDATED W/Final Stats)
((HT: Dark Panda))
Southern University's men's hoops squad thought it would be a good idea to schedule Champion Baptist College for a home game this evening...
This was a bad idea for CBC...
Rivals and Yahoo!Sports Jeff Eisenberg, who has been monitoring the game, sees that CBC is 0-16 from the floor and has 10 turnovers, no offensive rebounds, and was down 41-0 with 7:34 to go in the first half.
This would be an NCAA record for futility...
And, somewhere in this run, Southern even called a timeout...
Here's Champion Baptist's mid-night madness video from this season... where, presumably, they scored more points...
Champion Baptist finally scored, but Southern led 44-0 at the time for the biggest recorded run to start a game...
Congrats to you...
2145 UPDATE: The final was 116-12, so at least Southern didn't get the record for winning margin...
Some preliminary notes...
Southern scored 57 in the first half and 59 in the second, Champion Baptist scored 6 in each...
Here's your proof, thanks to hbcugameday.com
CBC went 3-for-44 from the floor and went only 5-for-17 from the foul line...
Their leading scorer was point guard Zach Hendricks- who had 4 points...
They were outrebounded 71-21
Southern had 23 assists, CBC had 1
Southern had 20 steals, CBC had 3
CBC had 27 turnovers, Southern had 8
Bottom line: Much like in college football, this game should never have been scheduled...
Bomani Jones even tweeted that CBC is in Hot Springs, Arkansas (his home town) and he never even heard of the school...
Here’s how obscure Champion Baptist College is: It’s in the town where I grew up (Hot Springs) and I’ve never heard of it.
The Sporting News' Kami Mattioli has some details on CBC:
A private, Baptist school with a total full-time undergraduate enrollment of 250 students, the Tigers are an independent school that competes in the Association of Christian College Athletics.
As members of the ACCA, they've won three National Championships in 2007, 2009 and 2010.
In the four games they've played, Champion Baptist averaged 38.0 points per game, while allowing their opponents to score an average of 108.3 points per game.
Southern, by the way, improved to 4-9

Navy's Keenan Reynolds Sets NCAA Record In Triple OT Win Over San Jose State
To say Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds has a nose for the end zone would be stating of obvious.
At least on a Saturday night in San Jose, California.
Reynolds rushed for 240 yards and an NCAA record seven rushing touchdowns including all of the Midshipmen's three overtime touchdowns as Navy defeated San Jose State 58-52 in triple overtime.
“I just come out to play." Reynolds said. "Coach calls the play and I try to execute. Hats off to the O-Line, they played well."
Reynolds has been coached up by the Naval Academy's media relations department. Always thank you offensive line.
“We talked with our defense and we had a good plan but with a triple option, you have to stop three
people." San Jose State head coach Ron Caragher said. "Reynolds just evaded our grasp and got away from us.”
For the season Reynolds has 26 rushing touchdowns, one shy of the NCAA record for a single season.
I can't wait to watch this kid in a few weeks against Army.

Who Is Cartel Brooks And Why Are We Talking About Him...???
((HT: kardestahi/Youtube))
When you are the tailback for Division III Heidelberg, we need a reason and now we have one...
Or, to be more honest, 465 of them... a new NCAA record in a 42-14 win over Baldwin-Wallace...
The record was held by Western Connecticut's Octavias McKoy, who ran for 455 yards against Worcester State three weeks ago. McKoy broke Marietta College's Dante Brown's 441-yard mark from 1996.
Here's the short version...
"We had a good game today," Brooks told the school's website. "This could be our last game, so we wanted to play well for our seniors. I just followed my blocks."
Yes, Cartel... You did...

McKoy (pictured right, thanks Matt Wright- Worcester State SID) scored on runs of 15, one, 41, 53 and 71 yards as they outscored Worcester 27-7 in the second half after being tied 28-28 at the half.

Caltech last posted an NCAA baseball win on February 15, 2003 when they beat CSU-Monterey Bay 5-4. Then, this weekend, the Beavers beat Pacifica 9-7 in the second game of a doubleheader to break that astronomically-long losing streak...
And, no the number isn't a misprint...
Caltech has 17 men's and women's sports...
The men's hoops team, at this writing, is 1-20...
So are the women... but Stephanie Wong may set the record for points in a season before they're through... even if their losing streak is at 16...
They have fencing, track and field, soccer, cross country, swimming and diving...
So, statistically, this could be one of the worst athletics programs in the country. But, if we judged Caltech by the athletics program, we'd be in serious trouble...
They can only lay claim to 17 Nobel Prize winners, astronaut Frank Borman, Moshe Arens, a former PM of Iceland, and Frank Capra (yes, THAT Frank Capra)...
So, the HQ is more than happy to celebrate their wins when they come...
Here's postgame from the Pacifica win from Head Coach Matthew Mark, Daniel Chou, and Brian Penserini

Northern Illinois Sets New Record For Bad
((HT: EMUAthletics))
Northern Illinois broke its own NCAA record for being really bad scoring only four points in the first half at Eastern Michigan.
Northern Illinois trailed 18-4 at the half after shooting 1 for 31, including 29 straight misses. Earlier this season, Northern Illinois set the record for fewest points in a first half with five against Dayton back on December 1st.
The Huskies' 3.2 percent field goal percentage in the first half also set a record, breaking Savannah State's 4.3 percent "success rate" against Kansas State on Jan. 7, 2008. Their one made field goal also tied Savannah State's record in that 2008 game.
The Huskies finished the game 8 for 61 from the field for 13.1 percent, another NCAA record. The Huskies finished 1 for 33 from three-point.
The record for fewest points in a game is 20 set by Saint Louis in January 2008.
Here's the highlights, if you're an Eastern Michigan fan, anyway...
It was the first time since December 7th, 2004 that Eastern held an opponent to less than 30 points- beating Rochester College, 89-29. The 25 points given up were also the lowest points EMU has allowed since January 21st, 1943, when they beat Hillsdale College, 61-21.

OSG D3: Hardin-Simmons Sets 23 Records In 86-42 Win
((HT: Hardin-Simmons Athletics))
Meet the new boss... and an answer to a lot of trivia questions from this moment forward...
Hardin-Simmons put up 86 points in a 44-point win over Sul Ross State in Abilene, Texas Saturday. Sufficed to say, there were a lot of new NCAA records put on the table:
Most Yards Gained By Both Teams- 1714, replacing the old record of 1,640 from the San Jose State-Nevada game in 2001.
NCAA Division III Records
Most Yards Gained By Both Teams- 1714
Most yards gained- 914 by Hardin-Simmons (685 passing)- QB Logan Turner threw for 8 scores. The old record was 614 yards.
McMurry had the old record of 848 yards in a game...
Sul Ross had 800 on the day and did it without the D3 leader in all-purpose yards, Dominique Carson, who sat out because of injury.
Here's the condensed version of the highlights...
Admittedly, for 86 points, that's hard to do...
Hardin-Simmons average... "averaged"... 12 yards per play in the game...
If you really want to get into all the numbers for your future bar bets, Joey Richards of the Abilene Reporter-News has all the details and quotes you'll need...
North of the border, by the way, the University of Calgary beat U-Manitoba 78-54 to set all kinds of CIS records. The HQ is still looking for highlights of that one...

West Virginia Outlasts Baylor In Morgantown, Creates Both Records And Headaches
((HT: KWTX-TV, Waco))
Let's face it...
The whole experience reminded us of one of two things...
Either video games or Arena Football... both apply all over the place...
133 points, 19 touchdowns and absolutely no defense whatsoever...
Geno Smith went 45-for-51 for 656 yards and 8TD's while Nick Florence went 29-for-47 for 581 yards and 5 TD's.
The game also set a record for the most points scored involving a team ranked in The Associated Press poll. The previous mark of 124 was set in 1980 when No. 12 Oklahoma beat Colorado 82-42. West Virginia picked up a school-record 807 yards, and the teams combined for 1,507 yards of offense and 67 first downs. Six receivers had at least 100 yards receiving.
Shall we keep going...???
The Bears' Terrance Williams set a Big 12 record with 314 yards receiving. The old mark was by West Virginia's Stedman Bailey, who had 303 yards and a school-record five TDs.
And the only reason Bailey didn't keep it in the first place was that Williams got the last possession...
The 19 touchdowns tied a D1 record from 2007 when Navy beat North Texas 74-62. That game was the old record for points in a regulation game at 136.
Baylor also tied a D1 mark for the most points scored by a losing team...
Got all that...???
Ricardo Lecompte tries to condense the whole story to 2:10
"Not every Big 12 game is like this," West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen said in the post-game presser.
Whaddya mean it's not...???

RECORD BREAKER: ODU's Taylor Heinicke Throws For NCAA D-1 Record 730 Yards In 64-61 Win Over New Hampshire
Old Dominion quarterback Taylor Heinicke put together an entire
season in one game. Heinicke threw for
an NCAA division one record 730 yards in the Monarchs 64-61 win over New Hampshire.
Here’s a
game report. (Thanks WAVY-TV)
Heinicke
broke the NCAA Division one record held by Houston’s David Klinger who threw
for 716 yards against Arizona State in 1990.
Heinicke was just one yard shy of
the all-division record set by Zamir Amin of Menlo (Div. III) who passed for
731 yards against Cal Lutheran in 2000.
The passing yards record wasn’t the
only one Heinicke broke today. His 61
yards rushing gave Heinicke 791 yards of total offense breaking Klinger’s FBS record
of 732 set in the ASU game in 1990.
While ODU accumulated 824 yards of
total offense New Hampshire totaled 725 yards of total offense. That added up to an NCAA FCS record of 1,549
yards of total offense. The previous
mark was 1,423 in a game featuring Murray State (816) and Missouri State (607) back
on October. 9, 2010.
The defensive coordinators for the
Monarchs and the Wildcats are going to have a lot to say during film sessions.
