Mick Cronin Goes Nuts on TV Ted Valentine

Wow!

College Basketball coaches--and coaches in general can be somewhat testy when they don't like calls in ball games.

But rarely do they get so mad that they have to be restrained...and then start pushing away the people restraining them.

Yet that's what happened today to the University of Cincinnati's Mick Cronin after he disagreed with a call by everyone's least favorite basketball ref, TV Teddy Valentine.

Cronin flys off the bench, but gets intercepted by his players and an assistant coach who tries to pull him away. Cronin shoves the coach and walks away.

By the way, Cincinnati lost a potential conference American Athletic Conference title clinching game vs. UConn 51-45.

Wichita State Runs the Regular Season Table

Hey, 31-0 ain't nothing to sneeze at. And sure football may all be about the "High and Mighty" big schools, but NCAA basketball is not.

The Wichita State Shockers completed a 31-straight regular season win streak by taking down Missouri State 68-45 Saturday afternoon. Which gave them a 31-0 record on the season.

Coach Gregg Marshall's charges head to the Missouri Valley Conference next week with no losses and credit from even the naysayers of small schools for being the real deal.

Cleanthony Early dropped 19 points and Ron Baker chipped in 13 to lead the Shockers to the win. Missouri State had taken them to overtime at their gym back in January.

Surprisingly to at least us, Wichita State is still ranked only #2 in the NCAA polling behind 25-2 Florida who also has a pretty good team but plays in a "Name" conference which in reality might be worse than the MVC.

And duly noted that the Shockers were a Final Four team in 2013, most of that team returned with more experience.

Expect them to be a #1 seed in a couple of weeks when March Madness begins and it would not be a surprise to see them playing yet again in the Final Four.

Your highlights from ESPN.com: (okay, all they've posted is postgame with Marshall--so that will have to do for now)

OSG High: 7 Ineligible For Chicago-Curie, Forfeiting Everything... But...

((HT: MyFoxChicago))

This classifies itself as "not good" for both Curie High and the Chicago Public Schools system...

7 of the players for the top-ranked team in the state of Illinois and the second-ranked team in the country were declared ineligible from the beginning of the season. As a result, the school is forfeiting 24 wins and the city title...

In Michael O'Brien's piece in the Sun-Times, Chicago Public School students can be eligible with a 2.0 GPA. If the GPA is less than that, an Independent Study Program has to be filed.

Neither was done...

Here's the latest from Curie High...
Chicago News and Weather | FOX 32 News

In an interesting twist, Curie can still compete for the state title since the IHSA and CPS have different eligibility requirements. Condors coach Mike Oliver will be suspended for an amount of time to be determined by CPS CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett.

"We are unable to make an official comment until reviewing the final report from the CPS athletic administration on the investigation," IHSA executive director Marty Hickman said in a statement. "We hope to be in a position to do so by Monday."

"Chicago Public Schools has a proud tradition of athletic competition and sportsmanship, but our No. 1 responsibility to our students is providing them with a solid academic foundation that will serve them the rest of their lives," Byrd-Bennett said in a statement. "A district investigation into the academic eligibility of members of the Curie Metropolitan High School boys varsity basketball team found that a number of the players are academically ineligible to compete and, as a result, their season must be forfeited. As adults, educators and mentors, it is our responsibility to teach our students right from wrong and, unfortunately, the adults let these student-athletes down by failing to do that and comply with CPS policies."

It all started with an anonymous e-mail and a week-long investigation that wrapped up Friday.

Randy Moss' Daughter Sets D3 Scoring Record

She was at the University of Florida, but nowadays Sydney Moss is tolling at Thomas More College. She set the new NCAA Division III scoring mark with 63 points in a 106-88 win over Waynesburg (Pa.) University in the President's Athletic Conference tournament...

The old record was 61

Here's some highlights

Thomas More improved to 27-0 and a conference final.

So you know, the D1 record is 60 by Cindy Brown for Long Beach State against San Jose State back in 1987.
