Morning Wrap: 76ers Beat Timberwolves to Break 17 Game Losing Streak

Sixteen seconds into Wednesday night's Phildelphia 76ers game versus the Minnesota Timberwolves, the game was stopped because both teams were playing to the wrong baskets.

Which is when the world knew something strange was happening.

A couple hours later, it ended, and something strange did happen. The Sixers won a game. After starting the season 0-17, the Sixers finally got the proverbial monkey off their back and walked away with the 85-77 win, a mere one game from tying an NBA record for futility.

The win moved the Sixers, widely regarded as the worst team in the NBA to 1-17, and keeps them as worthy challengers to the all-time worst season record in NBA history, also held by the Sixers at 9-73.

Michael Carter-Williams did his job for Philly, scoring 20 points with 9 rebounds and 9 assists while Robert Covington chipped in 17 in support.

The Timberwolves, chasing the Sixers for worst record at 4-13, had 4 guys in double figures, but all in the teens.

Awesome: A Minnesota Timberwolves 90210 Mashup

((ht: cbssports.com))

This is absolutely one of the funniest things you will see all day. Though we are not yet sure if that's intentional or not.

Check out this really well edited video that combines the Minnesota Timberwolves media day and highlights mixed with highlights from the early 1990's TV Show Beverley Hills 90210.

And yeah, in case you are wondering, most of the guys featured in the video, were either not born yet or just a couple years old when the TV show debuted.

Nice work YouTube user Marcos Lopez, nice work:

Really, Dante Cunningham...??? Really...???

Three days after being arrested in suburban Minneapolis for an alleged assault on his girlfriend, Minnesota Timberwolves forward Dante Cunningham (pictured right, thanks Hennepin County Sheriff's Department) turned himself in shortly before noon for making "terroristic" threats in text messages to the same woman-
violating a "no contact" order from the first arrest.

All this happened after 3AM this morning...

And what does the HQ say about things happening after 1AM...???

Cunningham turned his cell phone and computers over to police. Medina, Minnesota police released a statement:

"When the officer arrived and reviewed the messages, they were direct and rose to a terroristic level," the police statement read.

Cunningham is set to appear in court later Monday afternoon. He remained in custody following this arrest, but has not been officially charged.

Here's the original story from the initial assault charges last week:

The Timberwolves, again, released another statement:

"The situation with Dante Cunningham is very fluid, and we continue to monitor all available information. We reiterate that the Minnesota Timberwolves do not condone the behavior described in the accusations. We continue to wait for the legal process to run its course and will have further comment when appropriate."

Cunningham's girlfriend did not require medical treatment when police arrived.

Here's the morning update
KMSP-TV

He is still in jail and didn't join the team for their weekend road trip in Florida.

The team issued a standard statement:

"We are aware of the matter involving Dante Cunningham and are in the process of gathering more information. Dante will not be traveling with the team to Miami this afternoon. The Minnesota Timberwolves organization takes the matter very seriously and does not condone the type of behavior that is associated with this situation. However, we need to let the legal process run its course, and will have further comment at the appropriate time."

Cunningham will be an unrestricted free agent after this season.
The team exercised their $2.1-million option after last season.

Spurs-Wolves PPD'd By Smoke

((HT: Sportsnet))

The San Antonio Spurs-Minnesota Timberwolves game was supposed to happen in Mexico City this evening...

But this happened...
Mexico City Police said in a statement there was a fire in the generator room on the fourth floor of the arena that opened in 2012. “What happened was provoked by a short circuit in the room of generators,” the statement said in Spanish.

The game will be made up in Minnesota some time this season...

Minnesota Timberwolves Have Got Your "Harlem Shake"--AWESOME!

This is FANTASTIC!

The Minnesota Timberwolves appear to have had enough of the Harlem Shake. Particularly the Miami Heat version.

You know, the video that was endless dissected by every anchor and analyst of all sports on ESPN.

Yeah, that one.

Check out the T-Wolves response.

NBA Buzzer Beater: Luke Ridnour for the win

There really isn't much to say here. It's pretty simple actually, Minnesota and Utah, tied at 98, the ball ends up in the hands of guard Luke Ridnour.

Ridnour finds a gap in the Utah defense, takes it to the hole and puts up a floater.

Buzzer goes off, ball goes in and the Timberwolves win...thank you very much.

Kevin Love stomps on Luis Scola

Or more specifically, Luis Scola's face.

Last night during the Houston Rockets/Minnesota Timberwolves game in Minnesota, there was a somewhat ugly incident.

Timberwolves forward and star player Kevin Love gets tangled up with Rockets forward Luis Scola. You can see on the wide shot, Love appears to hip toss Scola to the ground...which is bad.

It gets worse as Love steps over Scola...and plants his foot in Scola's face.

And no, at least on video, it doesn't look like an accident.
