OSG High: Baseball Team Starts 2 Softballers In Rivalry Game

((HT: WALB-TV))

During football season, Dougherty and Monroe High Schools don't like each other...

It's, pretty much, a universal thing through the athletics seasons...

And the Trojans baseball coach needed some help for the game against the Tornadoes the other day...
So, he went to the softball team for help...

The HQ can think of using one female player, but head coach Ty Hayes started two- Senior RaKeta Shelton started at third base, while junior Takiya Davis made her second start at second.

Here's the highlights
WALB.com, Albany News, Weather, Sports

Sounds like Hayes will be having them around for a while...
And that's a cool thing...

Tillman Plus Ten: Where Are We...???

The answer, sadly, is nowhere and everywhere...

Do we have more answers...??? Sure...

Do we have all the answers...??? No...

And we may never get them...

Mike Fish has done some more quality work talking about where we are in all of this. He tracked down Bryan O'Neal, who survived the friendly fire assault, and Steven Elliott. Elliott was one of the Rangers who fired upon Tillman and the two other Rangers in the mountains. He thinks he may have been the soldier who fired the shots that killed him.

And Mary Tillman's words still ring true today...
((HT: MSNBC))

As do Pat's brother, Kevin, during the hearings on Capitol Hill
((HT: C-SPAN))

Full disclosure...

The HQ has given to, and will continue to, the Pat Tillman Foundation...

And what happened then, and what has continue to happen to this day- not just in the Tillman case, but other incidents- should give cause to all of us as to what we pay attention to and how we do it.

Always question... always ask... and always wonder...

Cris Collinsworth has maintained that Tillman should be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The HQ would go with that as long as others like Bob Kalsu are given the same honor in a wing for contributors.

OSG High: Cop Gets More Than 2 For Tripping

((HT: MyFoxAustin))

Take you to the Texas soccer action...

As is the case in, pretty much every sporting event known to mankind, there is always the announcement of not getting on the field after a game is over...

You get court-stormings and all that on a regular basis... and the students at Vandegrift beat Wiley High School, they decided that they wanted to celebrate.

Georgetown (TX) police office George Bermudez is at the bottom of the screen tripping kids to keep them from storming...
((HT: Rohan Gupta))

Here's the story from the television point-of-view

Bermudez is on administrative leave pending an investigation...

Stanley Cup Playoffs: What Is This About Taking People Out Below The Waist...???

((HT: NHL on NBC/Some Hockey Videos/TSN))

One was sad and the other was sad...

If you get where the HQ is going...

First is the one that drew people's ire...

Colorado and Minnesota series... and it was all around Matt Cooke again...

Tyson Barrie left the game against the Wild after a knee-on-knee hit from Matt Cooke and will miss four to six weeks with a medial collateral ligament injury. Cooke received a two-minute minor for kneeing, but has been offered an in-person hearing by the NHL department of player safety.

The HQ knows where that is going and a lot of people are calling for Cooke's head...

The other was just flat out disappointing...

Stars and Ducks...

Stephane Robidas was part of the fabric of the Stars for a long time. But he was traded to the Ducks at the deadline. This series has, admittedly, been tough on him facing his old mates. The first game back in Dallas had an injury that was eerily similar to the one that got him on the shelf the last time back in November...

Ryan Garbutt's going for the puck was not intentionally causing the re-break, but it still is disappointing...
Trevor Daley feels for his old teammate...
((HT: Will Martin))

OSG Prem: And Moyes Is Out...

((HT: Sky Sports))

The opinion of the Brits is interesting in this case...

The press and the fans think that the sacking of Manchester United manager David Moyes was more on what he couldn't do versus what he did. The club lost more games in a Premier League season than they have in a long time.

Now, the mess that is ManU is Ryan Giggs' for the remaining four games of the year- all very winnable...

Gary Neville thinks Moyes is a scapegoat for the inaction of the players, the roster, and the Glazers...

So, what happens when Giggs performs well without a history of being a prime manager...???
Does former ManU player Laurent Blanc, the head of Paris St. Germain, come in to be the savior...???

And that way, the idea of being the guy replacing the legend- instead of being the guy to be the guy to replace the legend- falls on the manager who comes in next to clean up the mess created by Sir Alex and compounded by Moyes and the front office...

Neville thinks he needed more time...

Ga. Southern's "Eagle Invasion" Recruiting Video Includes Statue Head-Butting

((ht: ajc.com))

One of the great things about co-owning a Sports Blog is you can write about your alma-mater.

Which is why I'm posting this Georgia Southern football recruiting story.

Much like the fine folks at the AJC, we don't know much about incoming head coach Willie Fritz. Fritz takes over for the departed Jeff Monken who left for Army this past offseason and comes from Sam Houston State in Texas.

And Southern, a traditional FCS (1-AA) power school, has moved up to the greener if not bigger enviorns of FBS (D-1) Football. Specifically the Sun Belt conference.

So, while the 'ol alma-mater may never again win a National Championship again in football, at least coach Fritz has brought a modern edge to the folks in Statesboro. The Eagles are steeped in tradition, having won multiple FCS titles under legendary head coach Erk Russell.

Check out the schools football recruiting video, which features the coaching staff paying tribute to Russell before heading out on their respective missions...

ESPN Analyst Keyshawn Johnson Facing Charges

((ht: sportingnews.com))

Ooops.

Former NFL wide receiver and current ESPN NFL Analyst Keyshawn Johnson finds himself in a bit of hot water to start the week..

According to reports, Johnson was arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery on his girlfriend at his home in the Hollywood Hills. He reportedly smashed her cell phone, cutting her hand.

"Key" was apparently detained before posting his $20,000 bond. His current employers in Bristol, Connecticut are looking into the matter, but haven't commented.
