427 yards rushing. By one player. In one game.
One week after Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon broke the record for most running yards in a game with 408, someone topped him.
That someone is Oklahoma freshman Samaje Perine. Perine ran for 427 yards on 34 carries Saturday afternoon, leading the Sooners to a 44-7 win over hapless Kansas.
Perine wasn't even a starter in the game delayed for 90 minutes due to lightning in the Norman area.
But when he got in on the second series, he delivered the thunder, taking his 1st carry 49 yards to the house. Perine had 222 by halftime.
Oh, did we mention he scored 5 TD's too?

Ohio H.S Playoff Game Ends in Brawl
((ht: dispatch.com))
Uh, this is never good.
The ending to Friday night's Steubenville vs. Beechcroft playoff football game in Zanesville, Ohio did not end well.
Stubenville had just pulled the upset, beating top ranked Beechcroft 29-21 in the regional finals when both teams ran out onto the field for the traditional "post-game handshake".
Only that handshake erupted into a end-to-end brawl between the two teams that required police to step in and help separate the teams.
Supposedly, the incident began on one of the last plays of the game when Big Red QB Dmitiri Collaros took a knee and was plowed into by Beechcroft's Takeyvon Simmons. That happened with just over a minute to go and after some pushing and shoving, both teams finished the last play.
It was the handshake that reset the hostilities.
According to the Columbus Dispatch, nobody was hurt nor arrested. The coaches for both teams declined to talk about the incident.
It's still too early to determine what the Ohio High School Athletic Association will do after the incident.

Louisiana H.S Wins Playoff Game on Hail Mary Pass
This doesn't happen very often, but it's pretty cool when it does.
Set-up: Last play of the Dunham (Baton Rouge, LA) vs. Holy Savior Menard in the Louisiana Division III Select Playoffs. Menard is up 24-21, clock is nearing zero.
Dunham has the ball on Menard's 46 yard line.
Quarterback Jayron Walker drops back and throws the ball as far as he can into a crowded end zone full of players from both teams.
And somehow the ball ends up in receiver Joshua Matthews's hands.
Touchdown...game over, Dunham comes back and gets the win 27-24.
Wow!
Here's video of the fateful play--

One-Punch Hockey Fight: Dalton Prout Drops Milan Lucic
Well, it sort of was a fight.
Okay, so maybe it was one punch and a bunch of woofing.
Take a look what happened when Dalton Prout of the Columbus Blue Jackets got tangled up with Milan Lucic of the Boston Bruins Friday night.
Some pushing, some shoving and a little dosey-do. Words are exchanged and Prout throws one punch. And down goes Lucic.
He didn't stay down long, got up and barked back and forth with Prout as both were ushered off the ice.
Lucic's teammates got the last laugh as Boston left with a 4-3 overtime win...

Bless You Charles Barkley: He Sings Glory, Glory to Ol Georgia on National TV
((ht: nbaontnt.com))
We are pretty certain Charles Barkley is gods gift to internet sports bloggers. Why else would he do the things he does?
The latest: Paying off a lost bet to University of Georgia grad and NBA on TNT Host Ernie Johnson Jr. The two had a wager on last weekends UGA vs. Auburn game (Barkley's alma mater). Georgia won.
So in the spirit of fun; Sir Charles paid his debt by singing the UGA fight song on the show...

Morning Wrap: Kansas St Gets Win at West Virginia
((ht: foxsports.com))
It wasn't pretty, but it was a win that kept the Kansas State Wildcats tied for the lead in the Big 9 (12).
Behind 400 yards passing and a TD by QB Jake Waters, the Wildcats downed the West Virginia Mountaineers 26-20 in Morgantown, West Virginia Thursday night.
K-State won, despite being held to 1 yard rushing...for the entire game. The win moved them to 8-2, 6-1 in the Big 9(12).
As for West Virginia, they struggled without QB Clint Trickett who left the game in the 2nd quarter after sustaining what is believed to be a concussion. Skyler Howard replaced him and threw a TD pass, but it wasn't enough for the Mountaineers, who've lost their last 4 games.
The loss dropped them to 6-5, 4-4 in the Big 9(12).

Morning Wrap: UNC Beats Duke, Wins ACC Coastal for Ga.Tech
Nothing like watching someone else win a game to get you into your conference title game.
Which is exactly what happened to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Thursday night. The Jackets clinched a berth in the conference title game vs. Florida State after North Carolina beat Duke 45-20.
Tar Heels QB Marquise Williams threw for 276 yards and 2 TD's, and ran for 98 yards and 2 more scores to lead the 6-5, 4-3 in the ACC Heels to the win.
Duke was ranked #25 in the country and all they needed to do was win the game at home to clinch their title shot.
They couldn't do it.
The loss drops the Blue Devils to 8-3, 4-3 in the ACC, but they'll get a bowl game this season, so there is that.
