How's This For Coming Off The DL...??? A Cycle...

((HT: MLB.com))

Michael Cuddyer missed 60 games with a fractured shoulder, and last night was his second game back...

So, he does this for the second time in his career...

You sure Cuddyer's ready to come back...???
I think we have his answer...

ICYMI: Rockies vs Reds PPD Due to Water Main Break

((ht:9news.com))

It's been a crappy year for the Colorado Rockies. Injuries, poor performance on the field and misspelling player names for promotional giveaways have all but ruined the season.

As of Saturday night, you can add a new calamity to the list of Rockies problems--though this one wasn't entirely their fault.

Saturday night's game versus the Cincinnati Reds was postponed because of a water main break outside Coors Field. The break caused most of the stadium to lose water pressure, making the bathroom's inoperable and concession stands all but useless.

The game was rescheduled for Sunday night as part of a day-night doubleheader. The two teams already were slated to play at 2 pm (mountain time) and the Rockies are slated to retire former star Todd Helton's jersey at that time.

Tickets for Saturday nights game will carry over for the Sunday night game--but not Sunday afternoon's version...

How About A Minor League Triple Play...???

((HT: MiLB.com))

Tulsa and Frisco... and, to be honest, the Drillers needed a bit of good news last night since they were trailing 8-2 at the time of this grounder to third...

5-4-3 is NOT the easiest triple play to turn, but Tulsa pulled it off.

It was an 8-2 final score and the Drillers are back at .500 with the loss at 61-61
Frisco is at 71-52 with the win

Always Pay Attention! Just Ask The Rockies From Now On

((HT: MLB.com))

One of the first things any little leaguer was taught (hopefully) by their coaches was to always have your head in the game.

The Diamondbacks David Peralta qualifies for that and the battery for the Colorado Rockies definitely does not...
Watch what Peralta did on this pitch and catch while he was on third base...

You know his skipper was pleased...

Ooops They Did It Again: Rockies Misspell Another Players Name

((ht: sbnation.com))

Okay, somebody in the Colorado Rockies marketing department needs a reprimand...or at the very least an investment in spell check...

On the heels of misspelling star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki's name on his jersey giveaway night comes this:

The teams service provider, Aramark, put out cups listing the Rockies "Bobblehead" nights. Which would be all good except for one small problem.

The July 13th listing.

It was supposed to list the bobble head for 3rd baseman Nolan Arenado. The problem: They spelled his name Arendo.

Ooops...

John Baker Gets The Win For The Cubs In 16

((HT: MLB.com))

Big deal, you say...???

John Baker is a Cubs catcher brought on to pitch the 16th inning last night at Wrigley and he did this...

It was the longest-timed game for both teams at 6 hours and 27 minutes. Baker admitted he hadn't pitched since the Cape Cod League, so we're probably talking at least a dozen years ago.

Frankly, the HQ blames Colin Cowherd since he was the one who sang "Take Me Out To The Ballgame." We don't know what we would blame him for, but we'll blame him just because.

Rockies Mis-Spell Star Shortstop's Name on Jersey Giveaway

((ht: 9news.com))

Ooof!

It's bad enough the Colorado Rockies are already struggling through a painfully bad season. 43-60, with a ton of injuries.

It's even worse when they do a jersey giveaway in the name of their best player....and spell his name wrong.

Yes, they did this.

On Troy Tulowitzki jersey night Saturday, the team handed out 15,000 free jerseys to fans. One BIG problem. They spelled their all-star Shortstops name "Tulowizki".

They forgot the "T" in Tulowitzki...

For their part, the team apologized and promised to do another similar giveaway later in the season where they will allow fans to exchange the jersey's for one spelled correctly.

But it doesn't excuse the mistake.

Surely somebody in the organization would be charged with checking such a thing. Even if it were an intern...or somebody in P.R.

But this is the Rockies we're talking about...

So we could be wrong.

A 3-Run Wild Pitch...??? Yup...

((HT: MLB.com))

The HQ can't recall the last time we saw something like this...

One run, maybe two, but not three on a wild pitch that come around to score...
Evidence below...

So, Rockies pitcher Christian Friedrich threw a wild pitch- run scores
Catcher Michael McKenry throws it past Friedrich on the cover at home- another run scores
The ball rolled all the way to the Brewers dugout, Juan Segura scores...

Wonder what the conversation in the Rockies clubhouse was like after the game..>???

Clayton Kershaw Throw's A No-Hitter That's Close To Perfection

The best pitcher in baseball threw his first no hitter.

Wednesday night Clayton Kesrshaw dominated the Colorado Rockies striking out 15 on 107 pitches and no walks.

Why no perfect game for Kershaw, Hanley Ramirez committed a throwing error in the seventh inning.

"I will remember this for the rest of my life." Kershaw said.

The thing about it, all the guys sit and watch, and you listen to them and they say nobody deserves this more than him" Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said.   "He works hard every day. He does everything right. He's a great teammate. The two Cy Youngs don't even get in the way. It's just so nice to watch someone like that get it."

As far as individual games go this is pretty special." Kershaw said. "

He hit a home run in San Francisco the other day and the catch was spectacular...

An Accidental Backswing Causes Concussions And Ejections

((HT: MLB))

It all starts with a backswing that accidentally (at least, that's the look of it, anyway...) clocks Braves catcher Gerald Laird in the head and he gets an early exit and concussion tests.

Then, because of baseball being "Quien es mas macho," the Rockies and Braves game yesterday goes downhill and degrades into hit batsmen, ejections, and managers not taking any guff...

Here's the exchange in an edited version...

Jhoulys Chacin wishes he had this pitch back to start the Reds first at-bat of the game

Rockies Charlie Blackmon Has A Busy Day

((HT: MLB))

Charlie Blackmon didn't hit for the cycle against Arizona, but he did do something pretty special...

For someone who struggled in Spring Training, he went 6-for-6 yesterday and got his name in the history books in a few different ways:

First player to go 6-for-6 with a homer and three doubles.

First player since the Pirates' Dick Groat in 1960 to have three doubles among six hits in a game.

First player in Rockies' history to have five or more hits, drive in three or more runs and score four or more runs.

First leadoff hitter with six hits in a game since Ian Kinsler for the Rangers in 2009, and

19th leadoff hitter in history with as many hits in a contest.

Manager Walt Weiss has a very crowded outfield, but that's not a bad thing- especially when you need to take full advantage of your home situation knowing your power will be somewhat suspect on the road.

Oh, and Blackmon...???

He's now 9-for-16 for the young year- fantasy owners pounce...

Todd Helton's Last Home Game Goes Okay...

((HT: MLB.com))

Ended pretty well, don't you think...???

The man gets a real, live horse in the pre-game...
The other QB on campus when he was at Tennessee (some guy named "Manning") was there and he ties Kiner on the home run list...

Not a bad night for #17...

Todd Helton Wins: Pulls Off Hidden Ball Trick

We're guessing St. Louis Cardinals infielder Matt Carpenter is getting a lot of grief tonight.

The reason: He fell for the oldest trick in the baseball book.

The hidden ball trick.

Your perpetrator: Colorado Rockies 1st baseman Todd Helton.

Watch...and marvel--

Tony Gwynn Jr. Puts Heckler in His Place

((ht: bleacherreport.com))

Oh, this is truly some funny video. And if you watch it, it doesn't take much set up.

Check out this video of Dodgers outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr. reacting to a really obnoxious Colorado Rockies fan in Denver over the weekend.

Look real closely...and turn off the auto-play video players on the site and listen closely to this:

Confirming Vin Scully's Awesomeness- Version Eleven Billion And Eight

((HT: MLB.com))

It was in last night's Rockies-Dodgers game...

One of the things Scully has taught a lot of us in the business is the business of lip-reading... minus the copy-editing for television...

When Rocks manager Jim Tracy had to challenge a call, he got loud...
And Scully was there for the translation...

Jimenez Gets 5 For Hitting Tulo

((HT: wiggzdotcom))

Cleveland Indians starter Ubaldo Jimenez says the pitch got away from him...
Colorado Rockies stud Troy Tulowitzki says Jimenez needs to get over getting traded when he wasn't given a contract extension...

So, when the two of them met in Spring Training...
Here's what happened...

Jimenez got a five game suspension for the act he said was an accident... even after he called Tulo out after charging home plate. Jimenez even said he wasn't going to apologize...

Ro-Flo has the full screens...

Best baseball catch by a TV Guy this year

((ht: mlb.com))

Nice catch dude.

Last night, Colorado Rockies baseball TV analyst Drew Goodman did what any good fan should do at a baseball game. He caught a foul ball...right?

The Rockies TV guys are apparently directly behind home plate and the ball came screaming right back to them. Goodman reached up and grabbed it. Cleanly.

This was easily their highlight of the day as the Rockies got smoked by the San Diego Padres.

Here's the video proof from MLB.com (they'll let this stuff be embedded...hmmm):

Rockies Nicasio Has Neck Surgery

Rockies pitcher Juan Nicasio had neck surgery to stabilize a fracture after he was hit in the head by a line drive by the Washington Nationals Ian Desmond...

The team said in a statement he was "resting comfortably."
Here's the play...
((HT: MASN/MLB/youtube))

Rockies athletic trainer Keith Dugger planned to give an update on Nicasio at some point this afternoon.

More when we know more...
