Morning Wrap: Lance Stephenson's Buzzer Beater in 2-OT's for the Win

If you were like us, you probably did not stay home and watch TV Friday night. And apparently we missed a couple of crazy performances.

Like the one delivered by Lance Stephenson of the Charlotte Hornets.

Stephenson ended a long and crazy game in Charlotte against the Atlanta Hawks when he drilled a 30-plus foot 3 pointer as the buzzer. And he hit the shot at the end of the 2nd overtime. Had he missed, the two teams still might be playing.

Charlotte got the win, 122-119. Stephenson, an offseason free agent signee who last played for Indiana got to play the hero. And we have our first highlight to show from Friday night.

All is well.

So...Michael Jordan Sinks 11 Shots in a Row at Hoops Camp....

At the risk of making a joke out of this, ESPN.com is showing video of NBA legend Michael Jordan hitting 11 straight shots at his basketball camp in North Carolina.

Which is great for him...as long as you add some perspective...

Watch the 50+year old Jordan start with a layup and bunny bank shot and work out to the 3-point line.

Yes, he makes those too....standing by himself.

And while this is all entertaining and great, we can already see the SportsCenter lead story forming in front of our eyes---"Could Michael Jordan return to the NBA"?

Um...based on what we see here, we'd say NO!

Charlotte Hornets Reveal New Uniform.

Today in Charlotte, NC it was the big reveal.  The Charlotte Hornets 2.0 would unveil their new uniform.

I see the Hornets have brought back the purple and teal color scheme from the old days.  Where are the pinstripes and the pleads that Kelly Tripucka revealed back in 1988

The Hornets new look and colors does seem so '80's but hey it seems to have created some buzz, damn right I went there, in Charlotte.

Those of us in the OSG HQ say the look is sharp, much better than those dreadful Bobcat unis.

NBA Board of Governors unanimously approves Hornet move back to Charlotte

CHARLOTTE -- The "buzz" is back in the Queen City.

On Friday morning, the NBA Board of Governors unanimously approved an application by the Charlotte franchise that will allow the Bobcats to revert back to the Hornets moniker for the 2014-15 season.

The original Hornets franchise played in Charlotte from 1988 until the team moved to New Orleans in 2002. Those original hornets teams featured players like Larry Johnson, Alonzo Mourning, and fellow Wake Forest star Muggsy Bogues.


“The passion and enthusiasm around this name change by fans in this market has been unmatched,” Michael Jordan, chairman of Bobcats Sports & Entertainment, told Bloomberg News. “With the young team we are developing on the court, the direction of our business and the return of the Hornets name, we are extremely excited about our future. The buzz is back.”

The organization held a party Thursday night at the Charlotte EpiCenter to announce the name change, and Rex Chapman, Kendall Gill, and Bogues were there to help celebrate.

One question remains...where's Hugo the Hornet?

Welcome Back The Charlotte Hornets

According to CBS Sports, it looks like the team that was in existence in name from 1988 to 2002 will be returning to the front of jerseys in the Queen City after all...

The HQ guesses you could call it "bringing Hugo back..."

It was something that the team had considered thinking about...

In an interview with the The Charlotte Observer back in November, current Bobcats-soon-to-be-Hornets major domo Michael Jordan said he was open to the idea of reclaiming the Hornets surname for the team in his town.

"It's definitely an interest down the road, but right now it's the New Orleans Hornets," Jordan told the Observer. "We would definitely entertain the opportunity. That's as much as we can say right now. We've heard the community ask the question, and we would listen."

It also would be important for a bad team to try and find ways to reach out to the community... and this isn't a bad way to start...
