How do you describe a chaotic soccer scene where fans just overrun the field and start throwing punches.
Uh...no, it's not the end of a College Basketball match. It's what happened this morning during a Russian Soccer match between Zenit St Petersburg and Dynamo Moscow.
We, nor anyone else is exactly sure what set off the fans rushing the pitch other than Zenit was losing 4-2 late in the match. And while, it would have been tough to pull out a win, it was possible.
But no, the game was cancelled due to the fans actions made only worse when one of them took a swing at Dynamo defender Vladimir Granat.

Russian Premier Game Abandoned, Fan Takes Swing At Captain

Here's a good way to get a match abandoned- a court storming
In the 88th minute, fans from Zenit St. Petersburg came onto the pitch with their team trailing Dynamo Moscow 4-2
And the long version
Watch one of the Zenit ultras (the shirtless guy wearing the black gloves) try to take a swing at Dynamo captain Vladimir Granat
Andre Villas-Boas is in charge at Zenit, but apparently that's only on the pitch. And their title coronation imploded thanks to their own fans. The team is one point ahead of the Russian Premier table with two games left.

Tempers "Flare" In Champions League Play

The HQ is well aware that the European version of football is, about, eleventy-billion times worse when it comes to fan misbehavior during a contest...
Football fans here may get in fights in the stands and there is the rare instance of pulling a weapon. But never do American fans set arenas on fire...
The fans in St. Petersburg did that twice in their UEFA match against Apoel Nicosia. Once per half was a nice average...
Here's how everything broke down in the 56h minute...
The officials took the players off the pitch, and the game eventually resumed with the game ending in a scoreless tie. That result assures Nicosia makes it to the next round...
Well done, Russia...
