Alabama Hoops Player Charged In Kidnapping Of Second Cousin

((HT: WTOK-TV))

Back in May, Devonta Pollard's mom was arrested for the kidnapping of elementary-school student Jashayla Hopson because the Hopsons/Fords (Hopson's mother's name is Roshell Ford) and Pollards had a land dispute with Hopson's mother. Today, police arrested Pollard and two others for conspiracy to commit the kidnapping.

Kemper County (MS) Sheriff James Moore said Pollard and Joyce Johnigan were arrested on the charge. Moore also says a third woman, Shaquayla Johnigan, was taken into custody on the same charge.

Hopson was taken from East Kemper Elementary School in April. She ended up on a rural road okay the next day. Jashayla knocked on the door of a residence on that road and the homeowner called police.

On May 1, three people were arrested, including Pollard's mother, Meridian-area basketball coach Jesse Mae Pollard. Kemper County authorities are saying Ms. Pollard came up with the scheme. The other two defendants arrested with Jesse Mae Pollard are being held without bail.

Ruth Ingram's piece in the Jackson Clarion-Ledger details what happened after Pollard allegedly picked up Hopson from the school:

Jessie Mae Pollard sent an ominous text to Ford. It read: "dont call the police I will call you later if you call the police u wont see her again."

Prosecutors say Jessie Mae Pollard dropped off Jashayla unharmed on a rural Lauderdale County road at about 1:30 p.m. May 1, telling her to wait there for her mother, then drove to Northport. Jashayla walked to a nearby Burrage Road residence, and occupants there dialed 911.

Cecil Hurt of the Tuscaloosa News reports that Mississippi TV stations are reporting the two women (Pollard and Hopson's mother) are cousins.

Got all that...???

Here's Part One of a series WTOK-TV did on Pollard's recruitment...
