And folks, if there was ever a question about how great Stanley Cup Playoff hockey is, it should be answered after this game.
Many people had already gone to sleep when Andrew Shaw scored late in the 3rd (yes, 3rd) Overtime Period, giving the Chicago Blackhawks a 4-3 win in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals.
The game ended early Thursday morning and is the 5th longest Stanley Cup Final game in the history of hockey. The win, puts the Blackhawks up 1-0 in the Best of 7 series.
Milan Lucic had 2 goals and an assist for the Bruins and Boston goalie Tuukka Rask faced 63 Blackhawk shots during the course of the game.
Game 2 is Saturday at 8 p.m, which increases the chance--in theory that (a) the game will be over before midnight and (b) that more people will be able to stay awake and see it.

And as for Mr. Shaw---he had a bit of a salty language description of the game winner:
But, after all, it was 1AM on the east coast...
Going a little backwards, here was the CBC's open...
