OSG High: Long Beach Poly's 90-Point Win Could Have Been Worse..???

((HT: Cam Smith/USA Today))

Cam, an FOSG, had this story in his byline and it shocked us a whole lot...

Not that Long Beach Poly won a game Friday night against Compton, but the sheer margin of it...

99-9 and that after Compton actually had a 6-0 lead.

Here's the highlights-presumably not all of them...
((HT: Long Beach Gazette))

Poly led 35-6 after the first quarter, 63-9 at halftime and then added 26 points in the second half- playing four quarterbacks and a lot of bench guys in general.

From Eric Sondheimer's piece in the LA Times, it just got...bad...

Poly Coach Antonio Pierce said he played four quarterbacks, plus lots of freshmen and pulled starters after the first quarter.

"To be honest, I was shocked," he said. "It was to the point kids wouldn't tackle."

Compton head coach Elijah Asante was realistic about it, though:
Amazingly so, really...

"I have to bring their spirits back up," Asante said. "For me, it's no big deal. We lost a football game real bad. We have to go in the weight room. We have to run and I have to somehow get to the kids and let them know, 'It's OK. It's just a loss. We have to get back up and this is where we show our character.'"

Anyone know how the HQ can get some Compton gear...???

Post Johnny Manziel Era Looks Good For Texas A&M, Aggies Pound Gamecocks 52-28

New Texas A&M quarterback Kenny Hill not only had Aggie fans forgetting about Johnny Manziel, Hill wipe out Johnny Football from the Aggie record books too.

Hill broke Manziel's school single game passing record throwing for 511 yards as Texas A&M routed South Carolina 52-28 breaking the Gamecocks 18 game home win streak.

Do we start the Kenny Hill Heisman Trophy campaign now?  Please no Kenny Football references.

It was obvious the Texas A&M played with a chip on their shoulder trying to prove that their will be no drop off after Manziel moved on to the NFL.

“You know, basically, nobody gave us a chance to even be close in this game,”Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin said. “All I heard last week was [we’re] two-touchdown [underdogs] and if we could keep it close it would be great.”

“I think what we did tonight showed that really, we’re not a one-trick pony,”Sumlin said. “You know, we are not anywhere near where we want to be – [but] we’re not going anywhere, anytime soon.”

The Aggies put up 680 yards on South Carolina's offense.

"We got manhandled," South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier said. "We got clobbered tonight."

The head ball coach was humbled by the Aggies performance at Columbia.

"That team is so much better than us, it wasn't funny," Spurrier said.

South Carolina fans were a little shell shocked too as this string of sound bites from WIS-TV in Columbia, South Carolina shows.

wistv.com - Columbia, South Carolina |
As a post script to Kenny Hill's 511 yards passing he becomes the sixth SEC quarterback to surpass 500 yards.  Here's the list:
Eric Zeier - Georgia
Jared Lorenzen - Kentucky
Rohan Davey - LSU
Peyton Manning - Tennessee
Tyler Wilson - Arkansas
Kenny Hill - Texas A&M

Adam Dunn: New White Sox Closer...???

((HT: MLB.com))

The Rangers-White Sox game was out of control last night...

15-0 heading to the ninth, so as is the rule, most managers put someone in who isn't normal bullpen...

Enter Adam Dunn for his first pitching appearance ever...

The HQ thinks the run was unearned, so he had one of the better nights for the Pale Hose...

Brazil Dismantled At Home By Germany, Scolari Apologizes

((HT: ESPN/FIFA))

Five goals in 29 minutes... and, really, after the first goal Brazil's weaknesses were exposed. The absence of Neymar and Thiago Silva not being around on offense and the back line being caught repeatedly in transition and not being able to match Germany's offensive prowess created an awful result for Brazil.

A 7-1 loss that could have been worse if Ozil hadn't pulled up in the 90th minute.
Here's Ian and Macca

And analysis from Mike, Alexi, Gilberto, and Michael

The 7-1 loss equals their worst-ever defeat- 6-0 to Uruguay back in 1920.
And the HQ wouldn't be surprised is Scolari was asked to retire when all this is done.

But the best personification of the day came from Deadspin where Good Ol' JR called the goals- it's a must watch

And Scolari apologized in his post-match- from the London Telegraph newspaper article by Jeremy Wilson:

"Who is responsible when the team plays?" Scolari said. "I am. It's me. Who decided the tactics, I did. So the person responsible is me. If I were to think of my life as a player, as a coach, as a teacher, this was the worst day of my life. I'll be remembered probably because I lost 7-1, the worst defeat Brazil have ever had."

OSG UEFA: Real Smokes Bayern

((HT: UEFA/Fox Soccer))

Sergio Ramos scored twice in five minutes and Cristiano Ronaldo punched it through twice on his own...

As a matter of fact, the goals by CR7 set a new Champions League record for goals in a campaign- with 16...

The final was 5-0 on aggregate- and it wasn't even that close...

Here's the PK by CR7 to advance to the final for the first time since 2002...

Bayern had never lost by three goals at home in Europe- they lost by four today...

Another Night Of Edmonton Sweater Toss And Exploding Water Bottles

((HT: Hockey Night In Canada/CBC/NHL))

There is no breaking news here...

The Edmonton Oilers are a bad hockey club...

And one of the ways the rabid, loyal fans have been protesting is this way...

And it didn't get any better for the Oil as Curtis Glencross got a hat trick and Matt Stajan had a four-point night on his own (considering everything he and his family have gone through... Good on you, Matt) as the Flames won 8-1

The night got even more interesting as Taylor Hall had issues with his water bottle and, then, his head coach Dallas Eakins...

But Eakins, really, should be Coach of the Year for having to put up with all this crap...
Here's the highlights...

Speights Gets MVP Serenade In Sixers Blowout... Or "Can Someone Shoot The Sixers?"

((HT: CSN Bay Area))

And, no, the HQ doesn't mean that the Sixers can't shoot...
We mean, can someone put them out of their misery...

The 45 point loss to the Clippers followed by the 123-80 loss to the Warriors last night...
We guess their next loss will be by only 41 at this rate...

It was a cool evening for one of the reserves for Golden State. Marreese Speights dropped a career-high 32 off the bench and the crowd serenaded him thusly... as well they should have...

But he told Ric Bucher that he never... EVER... had a night like last night on the floor before...

Now, the irony...

Speights was a Sixers draft pick originally. And Philly became just the second team in NBA history to lose two straight games by at least 40 points each- joining the 1993-94 Sixers...

DEVELOPING: Lob City Embarrassing Philly

((HT: CSNPhilly))

It was a 30-point margin after one quarter Sunday night in Los Angeles...

Jamal Crawford had the chance to get the lead to 50 in the third quarter...

But there was the standard amount of lobbing, street ball, and dunking...
Which was fun to watch...

Unless you were a Sixer...

Ducks Win 8th Straight, Canucks 9-1 Loss Is Worst Ever

((HT: Sportsnet))

There really isn't a whole lot to say...
Vancouver was gawd awful and the game degraded completely in a hurry...

Here's the highlights...
And the fights in the third that gave the Canucks 58 minutes of penalties in the period... Tom Sestito, Jannik Hansen and Zack Kassian all got misconduct penalties with 7:11 to play. Kevin Bieksa wasn't far behind... ((HT:SNP/SomeHockeyVideos))
The Ducks improved to 20-0-2 at home...

#1 Arizona Allows Only 25 Points To Washington State

It may not be such an understatement to say that Washington State's game against #1 Arizona was over at tip off.

The Wildcats swarmed the Cougars winning the game 60-25.

That's right, Washington State could only score 25 points on the top ranked Wildcats.

Thanks Pac-12 Network

Thanks ArizonaWildcats

"Arizona jumped on us early and it never really ended." Washington State head coach Ken Bone said.

Washington State was 9-45 from the field shooting only 20 percent for the game and the Cougars 25 points is their lowest since January 15, 1938.

Junior Longrus led Washington State in scoring with six points.  He was the only Cougar with multiple field goals made in the game.

“Obviously we feel good about our defensive performance." Arizona head coach Sean Miller said.  "One thing I wanted to point out is Washington State was clearly playing without two players."

Those two players Washington State was missing was their leading scorer DaVante Lacy who had an emergency appendectomy and another starter Dexter Kernich-Drew who is recovering from a concussion.

“It seemed like it just snowballed and as it snowballed one thing that was impressive was Arizona being able to sustain a high level of intensity, especially through the half,” Bone said. “Their defense was still good even as the score became lopsided.”

OSG Prem: Spurs Surrender Six To City...

((HT: NBCSports/BPL))

So much for having the toughest defense in the League...

13 seconds in, Jesus Navas placed a beautiful shot in the upper corner against Tottenham and it was profoundly downhill after that...

Manchester City gets 3 in each half and wins 6-nil at the Etihad...

The blowout win puts City up to fourth in the league with a league-leading goal differential of +21.

The loss is the worst in the league for Tottenham since a 6-1 loss to Chelsea in 1998. The shutout for Spurs is also the first time they have scoreless in three straight games since January of 2009.

Here's a lot of City offense...

Derek Carr Has A Senior Day To Remember

Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr won't forget his senior day and neither will the fans who attended the game at Bulldog Stadium.

Carr complete 27 of 37 passes for 527 yards and seven touchdowns which broke the school record for touchdown passes in a single game and tied the Mountain West Conference record.

Three of Carr's seven touchdown passes were of 50 or more yards,

Oh by the way Fresno State crushed New Mexico 69-28 to give the Bulldogs there first 10 win season since 2001.

(Thanks KMPH-TV)

KMPH FOX 26 | Central San Joaquin Valley News Source
"I couldn't have scripted it better," Carr said  "It was really fun. The best feeling is when you prepare so hard and you go out and execute at that kind of level. That's the most fulfilling thing football-wise."

Read more here: http://www.fresnobee.com/2013/11/23/3627419/fresno-state-football-pregame.html#storylink=cpy

"He's as good as there is in the country and that is why I think it is very well deserved that he should be in the Heisman discussion," Fresno State head coach Tim DeRuyter said. "He has led us to a 10-0 record, which is the most important thing for a quarterback."

Carr just might lead Fresno State to a BCS bowl game.

Fresno State, who is 15th in the BCS rankings will need to defeat San Jose State next week and then win the Mountain West Championship Game to get it done.

Then hope so stay ahead of Northern Illinois and Central Florida in the BCS standings.  Should the Bulldogs stay ahead of the Huskies and the Knights and remain in the top 16 they will get a bid.

Here's a Fresno State senior day feature worth watching (Thanks KFSN-TV)

15 Goals In One Game... For One Team...

((HT: Some Hockey Videos/QMJHL))

15 goals on one side is one thing, but giving up 15 is something entirely different...

The Halifax Mooseheads scored 15 against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies last night...

Here's all 15...

The breakdown...

The teams were tied at four after the first period, but Halifax scored five goals in the second and six more in the third.

Andrew Ryan, Nikolaj Ehlers and Brent Andrews had two goals and three assists each.
Danny Moynihan and Jonathan Drouin also scored twice.
Brendan Duke, Jesse Lussier, Darcy Ashley, Matt Murphy and Austyn Hardie also had a goal on the score sheet.

And all their mothers are pleased with the outcome...

OSG High: Bullying Charge After Blowout Win

((HT: NBCDFW))

A football team wins 91-0 and a parent files a bullying charge from the losing squad...

Make sense to you...???
Thought so...

Here's what's going on in the Metroplex...

The Texas Education Agency defines bullying as:

"Bullying occurs when a person is exposed, repeatedly and over time, to negative actions on the part of one or more other persons, and he or she has difficulty defending himself or herself. Bullying is aggressive behavior that involves unwanted, negative actions. Bullying involves a pattern of behavior repeated over time. Bullying involves an imbalance of power or strength."

So, faithful reader, is this bullying or is this a soft parent...???

What say you...???

Big Numbers, Big Whoop...Louisville, Miami, Baylor, Pitt

Ranked versus Unranked led to a 17-0 spread and an average score of 47-11...

Some people like it for the idea of getting your back-ups the chance to get reps- just in case...
Others think it's tiresome...

Baylor beat Louisiana-Monroe 70-7 and no one wants to play Baylor
((HT: KWTX-TV))

Iowa put up 59 against a directional Michigan school while Michigan actually just survived a UConn road game...

Savannah State picked up another paycheck traveling to Miami to get whacked by Miami 77-7. The spread was 60 and they covered...

“I know that I can change a program like this,” first-year Savannah State coach Earnest Wilson said. “We aspire to be big-time. A game like this helps us judge where we are. The only difference is depth. I know I have to go out and recruit and get some guys like they have.”

Savannah State got $375,000 for taking the trip to Miami, plus another chance to line up against a ranked program. The game was shortened in the fourth quarter. Wilson and Miami’s Al Golden talked at halftime and agreed to trim 3 minutes off the final quarter.

“I’ve been there,” Golden said. “I’ve been on the other side of those at Temple. He was trying to teach his team how to keep fighting. I’ve been in his shoes.”

Here's the highlights...

In Louisville, Teddy Bridgewater threw four touchdown passes and Louisville's defense allowed a school-record 30 yards, helping the seventh-ranked Cardinals blow out Florida International 72-0. It was the highest scoring game for the Cardinals since a 73-10 victory over Murray State in 2007. It also matched the school's fifth-largest margin of victory.

And in a game that, actually, was entertaining about it...
Pitt and Duke went after each other to the tune of a 58-55 shootout where the Panthers had to run out the clock on the ground...

What this says about Coach Cut and the Duke defense, the HQ doesn't really know... but there should be reason for optimism with the offense...

With A Back-up Quarterback Ohio State Rattles Florida A&M

Ohio State calls Kenny Guiton the most famous back-up quarterback in college football.

Saturday against an over-marched Florida A&M team Guiton's fame reached a new zenith.

Guiton threw for an Ohio State record six touchdowns, all in the first half, in the Buckeyes 76-0 rout of the Rattlers.

"I had all day," Guiton said. "The coaches wanted to come out throwing the ball around and I thank them for the trust they had in me to be able to do that."

"He's an efficient player right now, he's an incredible manager, coach on the field so, you know, his time came." Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer said.  "He was prepared, and his coach and him did a very good job. I think Tom Herman it's not by accident that this thing happened, now. It's not because he had the buckeye in his pocket or his lucky tee shirt; it's because he worked hard with the position coach to get ready for his opportunity and boy did he."

Yes he did coach Meyer.

When asked if Braxton Miller was still the Buckeyes number one quarterback Meyer had a one word answer.

"Yes."

Quarterback controversy in Columbus, I think not.

Women's Soccer... 21 Goals... One Team...

((HT: Deadspin))

Greg Howard has the breakdown as to why what happened had to happen... and it's pretty funny...

Here's the short version...

Advancing out of group stages means, sometimes, you have to go to goal differential...

Jordan needed to beat the Kuwaiti by, at least, 17 to stay on pace with the leaders...
They did... and here's every freaking goal in the game...

Maysa Jbarah had eight goals, and Stephanie Al Naber had only six for the winners.

The HQ gives the women credit on two fronts:

A) For sticking it out in such a bad situation. But even if we were the Kuwaiti goalie, we'd be pretty bent at our defense and,

B) For playing with burkas on...

Pretty stout...

Central Arkansas Puts Up 30... In Baseball...

((HT: UCA Athletics/Big League Stew))

Normally, when the HQ talks about the University of Central Arkansas, we're discussing either Scottie Pippen or the purple and black turf they have for the football stadium...

now, we'll talk to you about their baseball prowess... at least on one night...

The Bears played Grambling and the Tigers had a really bad night...

Here's the Purple Bears highlights... and there are a lot of them...

In 12 of their 24 wins, the Bears have score double digits... including a 19 against Mississippi Valley...
In the Tigers game... here's their box score...

Collin Klein Heisman Front Runner? Geno Smith's Stock Going Down. K-State Crushes WVU 55-14

Geno Smith’s Heisman Trophy stock is dropping.  Collin Klein’s stock is soaring to front runner status for the stiff-arm pose.
Klein and his Kansas State Wildcats dominated West Virginia at Morgantown 55-14 and the game didn’t seem that close.

Klein was damn near perfect, 19-21 passing for a career high 323 yards, ran for four touchdowns and threw for 3 touchdowns.
The K-State quarterback clearly won the head to head battle with former Heisman front runner Geno Smith who threw for 143 yards and one touchdown however tossed his first two interceptions of the season.

"He doesn’t do anything wrong.” West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen said. He is the same guy we saw on film. He is exactly the same guy we thought he would be.”
Which is a damn good football player and Kansas State is exactly who WVU thought they were, a BCS Championship Game contender.

Here’s the highlights from a stunned Morgantown, WV (Thanks Fox Sports)

K-State has put themselves in the conversation with Alabama and Oregon as the top three contenders for the BCS National Championship Game.
The Wildcats own three Big 12 Conference wins on the road, at Oklahoma, at Iowa State (and the Cyclones aren’t bad either.) and now a domination of West Virginia.

The Wildcats final five games are first a pair of home games vs Texas Tech and Oklahoma State then road trips to TCU and then to Waco, Texas to play the Baylor Bears before finishing the season hosting Texas at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.  It’s just seems very odd for K-State and Texas to finish the season (ramifications of realignment.)
I’m just wondering how many are now jumping on the K-State bandwagon.  I’m there now.

BYU Chows - Down On Hawaii 47-0

For 27 years Norm Chow was an assistant coach under Lavell Edwards.  Friday night Chow returned to Provo, Utah as the head coach of Hawaii and his Warrior team was pummeled by the Cougars 47-0.
“We couldn’t get it going defensively.”  Chow said.  “We couldn’t move the ball on offense, very disappointing.”
And that in a nutshell describes Hawaii’s performance against BYU.
Here’s Chow addressing the media.  (Thanks Hawaii Athletics)

BYU freshman quarterback Taysom Hill started the game and rushed for 143 yards and a touchdown.  Hill also threw for 112 yards and two touchdowns.
BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall decided to start Hill as incumbent starter Riley Nelson rests and injured back.
“If Riley is capable and ready to play, then he will be our starter.” Mendenhall said after the game. “He was hurt this week. He has been the whole week, so we made the decision to sit him out.  If Riley plays like he has been playing, he won’t get better, but he will improve with rest, so that’s what we’re planning on. Taysom is doing his part, but there isn’t as much history between he and I like there is between Riley and I. The biggest decision is going to be how Riley is feeling.”
Do we have a quarterback controversy stirring up in Provo?  It appears Nelson will remain the starter but it’s hard to ignore the dynamics Taysom Hill brings under center.  Hill doesn’t appear to be caught up in the hype.
“I’m not sure about starting.”  Hill said. “ That is not my decision, and I won’t get caught up in that right now. Riley has been through this and has been a big help. He knows the team and what I was going into. He has been giving me pointers all week and was a set of eyes for me from the sideline all night.”
Here’s the highlights from last night. (Thanks BYU Productions)
