We've not yet as of this writing seen the winner of the Baylor/Michigan State Cotton Bowl game, but after this highlight, we aren't sure it will really matter.
With 4 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter: 6-7, 390 pound LaQuan McGowan got the thrill of a lifetime. He lined up as an eligible receiver and caught a pass from Baylor QB Bryce Petty. McGowan got the ball around the 10 yard line and rambled in.
We aren't sure if the Michigan State guys didn't want to mess with someone that big or if they were too stunned to see a kid that large catch a TD pass.
Either way, the TD stretched the Baylor lead to 41-34...

College Football Playoff Choices: The Most Popular Four Get Picked
Oh boy, the College Football crazies are going to be doing them some arguing today (Sunday).
The College Football Playoff committee announced the four teams that will be competing for the National Championship.
None of those four teams will come out of the Big 12.
Alabama, Oregon, Florida State and Ohio State will play a game January 1st in different locations to determine who will get a shot at the title a week later.
The surprise is Ohio State, 6th in the playoff rankings and most polls going into Championship Weekend, the Buckeyes leapfrogged both TCU and Baylor, who were ranked above them.
Playoff Committee chair Jeff Long cited a few reasons for this; among them Co-Champs in the Big 12 and Ohio States domination of a probably overrated Wisconsin in the Big 10 title game. Long was adamant that it was about what Ohio State did this week, not about what TCU or Baylor did.
We'd argue Kansas State would beat Wisconsin.
Long spoke at length about "Strength of Schedule", though we'd prefer to call it "Higher Publicity" or "Larger Traditions"...but we aren't on the committee.
The state of Texas is likely to get a bit angry about this and they've got a good argument. In OUR opinion, Ohio State winning "Big 10" games is not the same as TCU or Baylor winning "Big 12" games.
The Big 10 is much better known and represented, but the football...outside the Buckeyes, was abysmal or any other overrated adjective you can think of.
In the long run, no, it really doesn't matter what we think. College Football has never been a game that settled arguments on the field and is not set up to determine a true best team.
It's never been.
College Football is and always has been a popularity contest. No, this season did not provide anything clear cut. There were no real dominant teams. Very little separated them.
But in this scenario, Ohio State losing to a horrible Virginia Tech team meant nothing. And the Big 12 was penalized for not having a conference title game. Long admitted as much.
Anyway, enough ranting on our part.
Here's your semi-final matchups:
Sugar Bowl: Alabama vs. Ohio State
Rose Bowl: Oregon vs. Florida State....
Good luck fans, you have the 4 most popular teams in all the land to cheer for. May the best....or most popular team win.

Morning Wrap: Baylor Handles Kansas State Makes Playoff Statement
((ht: espn.com))
Was it enough?
That's the question all over the state of Texas Sunday morning after both Baylor and TCU took care of business on Saturday.
The Bears did their part Saturday night, powering past a dangerous Kansas State team 38-27 in Waco.
QB Bryce Petty, who left the previous weeks game with a concussion, came back to lead his team to a share of the Big 12 title with 412 yards passing and a TD. He ran for a TD as well.
Really the only questions lingering after the game were: 1) Will Baylor get to leapfrog TCU, the other co-champ of the Big 12, who is ranked ahead of them (as of 10am Sunday). 2) Will either Big 12 team be able to hold off the strong Ohio State sentiment coming after their championship win.
We say yes, despite the Big 12 only being 10 and not having a title game, both teams, Baylor and TCU should be ahead of Ohio State. Bottom line: tOSU lost to a crappy Va. Tech team.
Yes, TCU lost to Baylor and that should count. Baylor lost to an inferior West Virginia team.
So how does it play out? We have no earthly idea....
ESPN.com provides the Baylor highlights:
It should be noted that after the game, Baylor head coach Art Briles was um, less than thrilled with Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby. Bowlsby was in Waco after presenting a Big 12 trophy to TCU in Fort Worth just a few hours earlier. Both TCU and Baylor fans were chanting "One True Champion", something that the Big 12 is unable to produce. Unless it went to tiebreakers, which they aren't doing either.
Was it enough?

TCU Takes Care of Business With Iowa State
((ht: espn.com))
The TCU vs. Iowa State game ended fairly quickly. If a 17-3 halftime lead wasn't enough, dropping a 31-spot in the 3rd quarter took care of it.
The Horned Frogs won a share of the Big 12 title Saturday afternoon, trouncing Iowa State 55-3. And while the Frogs were 3rd in the rigged for ESPN playoff poll going into the game, there is no assurance the win will get them a playoff berth.
Trevone Boykin threw for 460 yards and 4 TD's as TCU rolled up 722 yards of offense on a sunny afternoon in Fort Worth.
TCU's status as we said is uncertain due to the fact they are tied with Baylor for the conference lead. Baylor plays Kansas State Saturday night. A Bear win guarantees a tie, a Baylor loss gives TCU the conference and likely playoff bid.
There has been much discussion should Baylor and TCU finish tied as to whom should get a shot at the playoff. The Bears got a 61-58 win over the Frogs early in the season and many believe that will be enough to give them the nod.
We say wait and see what happens because we would not guarantee a Baylor win over a tough Kansas State game.

The Dirty Dozen and Bottom of the Barrel: Run Joey Run
You have no idea what song this is---it's from the mid 1970's...
And it describes the bizarreness that is this week in College Football in a way we can't as the polls confuse us and the College Football Playoff rankings make us say:
Because of course it does...
Alas, there are only 3 weeks or so left before any of this rankings madness means anything, but that isn't stopping the arguments.
Especially if you are a fan of TCU or Baylor.
And SEC fans, be worried. Be very worried. Depending on the next few weeks, you might find yourselves locked out of the CFP. Not because the teams are bad, but because they've Walking Dead cannibalized themselves...
But enough of that. Last Week we were 9-4 (thank god we picked Az. St to beat Notre Dame), which puts us at 106-27 on the season, which ain't half bad.
But enough about us...as the legend himself Casey Kasem (RIP) once said; "On with the Countdown"
THE DIRTY DOZEN:
1) Mississippi State. 9-0. D-Day. Moment of reckoning, time to find out if the dream continues. Last weeks practice game was a good tuneup for this one. Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Tall task for anyone. And with the pass defense not improving, we have our doubts.
This Week: at Alabama, Our Pick: Bama 37, Miss St. 36 UPSET!!!!! And game of the Year...
2) Florida St. 9-0. Still undefeated. And don't buy the hype that the Noles will lose. They aren't great, but they are much better than anyone else in the ACC. The week off will help, a lot. They aren't stellar at anything, but they are pretty good at everything. This Week: at Miami, Our Pick: FSU 41, Miami 23
3) Alabama 8-1. Folks, when the dust clears, this may very well be your championship team. They are much better than you think. Not perfect, but nobody this year is. With the defense they have and Amari Cooper, they will always have a chance to win. Don't buy that Blake Sims isn't prime time ready. He'll step up this week. This Week: See #1
4) TCU 8-1. Still don't think Trevone Boykin isn't one of the best players in College Football? Well, then you haven't watched the Frogs play. He's impressive. Odd seeing a Gary Patterson team living on offense not defense, but hey, they do play in the Big 12. The path is clear from here. This Week: at Kansas. Our Pick: TCU 48, Kansas 13
5) Oregon 9-1. Good win vs. Utah. But I still don't buy into these guys. They've yet to prove they won't fold under pressure or when losing. And the pass D isn't any better than Mississippi State's. Plus they are banged up. But they'll coast to the Pac 12 title game. This Week: BYE
6) Ohio St. 8-1. The most improved team of the season. As J.T Barnett has learned, the Bucks have gotten monumentally better. And last weeks win at Michigan State proved it. They aren't perfect and the loss to Va.Tech still hurts perception, but this could be a playoff team. This Week: at Minnesota, Our Pick: tOSU 37, Minnesota 33
7) Baylor 8-1. Sorry, we still don't love this team. They are very good. But not great. If not for Gary Patterson's brain fart, they lose to TCU. The West Va. loss was a bad one. Sure, they pounded Oklahoma, but the Sooners were overrated too. The path is clear, can they stay clean? This Week: BYE
8) Arizona St. 8-1. Yup, Arizona State. A very good team that annihilated Notre Dame. Somehow, they let UCLA slaughter them, but they've done enough to win every other game. They've been good not great, but the path is clear. Win out and it's Oregon for the Pac 12 title and likely playoff berth. This Week: at Oregon St., Our Pick: Az St 41, Oregon St 21
9) Auburn 7-2. No, the Tigers have no real excuse for losing to Texas A&M other than their defense sucks. Still, we never thought they'd go down at home to a team they should easily have beaten. Except maybe they aren't as good as we thought? Or they are...This Week: at Georgia, Our Pick: Georgia 53, Auburn 49 UPSET!!
10) Nebraska 8-1. Yes, Nebraska. They only have one loss folks. Really. Yeah, sure, we know, they play in the Big 10. But they are tough. And you don't hear them whining about Bo Pelini anymore. Plus they get Ameer Abdullah back this week and he's good. Very good. This Week: at Wisconsin, Our Pick: Huskers 31, Wisconsin 21
11) Ole Miss 8-2. So they stopped the bleeding with a practice gm. vs. Presbyterian. Good for them. The Rebels are pretty banged up, but still dangerous. But they go as Bo Wallace goes...and nobody knows how Bo Wallace goes until Bo Wallace plays. So there's that. This Week: BYE
12) Georgia 7-2. They get back in the poll cause Todd Gurley is back. Really though, we should nickname this team The Brain Farts. They always do something to keep them from being all they could be. When thinking, they are very good, When not, there's the Florida game. This Week: See #9.
THE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL:
Okay, so it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that SMU is our Toilet Bowl champs this year, though Georgia State is giving them a late run for their money. Thank god the two teams don't play, all 500 that would show up would need to have their eyes fixed afterwards....
5) Troy 2-8. Trojan man for the win! Yay Troy...Oh, wait, you played Ga. State last week? Well, someone had to win. That might not be enough to get out off the list. Sorry. But you still have a chance. This Week: at Idaho, Our Pick: Troy 38, Idaho 27
4) Idaho 1-8. So, the good news is nobody has blown you out. The bad news is outside beating crappy New Mexico State, you've lost all your other games. Which is why you reside here. And unfortunately, you may not be leaving. This Week: See #5
3) Kent State 1-9. Hey, at least you've scored 20 points in each of the past 2 games. Okay, so you lost both of them. But you did beat Army, though nobody is sure how. No, the Flashes aren't the worst team in CFB, but they are pretty close. This Week: Already played....and lost
2) Georgia State 1-9. Oh, pity the poor Panthers, one win the past 2 seasons. Unfortunately, they are the poster child for moving to Division 1 before being ready. And now they pay the price. Trent Miles is a good coach, but it will be several yrs before they'll be competitive. This Week: BYE
1) SMU 0-8. Wow, the Mustangs don't end the season til December 6th. 3 more wks of agony and suckage. But hey, the briefly had the lead vs. a crappy Tulsa team and scored 28 in a loss. Baby steps guys, baby steps. This Week: vs. South Florida, Our Pick: USF 31, SMU 13
Enjoy your song of the Week:

CFB Review: Baylor Blows Out Oklahoma
((ht: foxsports.com))
The Baylor Bears appear to have gotten mad after being down 14-3 after one quarter to the Oklahoma Sooners.
So they did something about it.
45 straight points later, the Bears walked out of Memorial Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma with a 45-14 win.
Baylor's Corey Coleman had 15 catches for 224 yards and a touchdown and the Baylor defense knocked OU starting QB Trevor Knight out of the game.
Knight was injured on a sack where he was driven into the turf. His injury was serious enough that he was wheeled off the field, immobilized on a backboard. No word on his injuries, but he did give a #1 sign to the crowd.
Video from FOX Sports:
The win moves Baylor to 8-1 on the season, 5-1 in the Big 12. And barring a setback, it continues aligning the Bears with Kansas State, who they will likely face for what will probably be the Big 12 title and a playoff berth, at home on Dec. 6th.
Here is some more video from the game featuring Baylor QB Bryce Petty throwing a TD to the aforementioned Corey Coleman:

ICYMI: West Va. Gets Big Win vs. Baylor and Riots
((ht: foxsports.com))
It wasn't pretty. But it was a win and Dana Holgersen and the West Virginia Mountaineers will gladly celebrate beating the alleged #4 team in the country.
West By-Gawd took down the Baylor Bears 41-27 in Morgantown Saturday in a game that featured 18-penalties against Baylor. The win threw the Big 9 (12) title race into chaos...
It also featured Mountaineer QB Clint Trickett recording his 8th straight 300-yard passing game, throwing for 322 yards and 3 TD's. Kevin White, who leads the nation in catches, caught 8 of those passes for 132 yards and 2 TD's.
As for the Bears, well, we picked this to happen.
Sure, Bryce Petty threw for 223 yards and 3 TD's, but Baylor's high-powered, nation leading offense was pretty much held in check by West Va.
Your highlights from FOXSports:
It should be noted in true West Virginia fashion, students ran on the field and continued the celebration late into the night. Rioting was reported all through the downtown area of Morgantown. According to reports, the students were setting fires, damaging street lights and various other properties and threw rocks, bottles and beer at police and firefighters called in to help calm them down.
You stay classy West Virginia....

Baylor Outscores TCU 61-58
61-58, isn't that a basketball score?
What? No, it's a football score?
Really? Surely you're joking....
I'm not joking and don't call me surely...
It took a 28-yard Game Winning Field Goal at the buzzer by Baylor's Chris Callahan to stop the scoring onslaught. Callahan's kick gave the Baylor Bears a 61-58 win over TCU in a shootout that maybe the biggest of all shootouts...
Callahan's kick capped a comeback that saw the Bears fall behind by as much as 21 points with only 11 minutes to go.
But the powerful Baylor offense, behind 510 yards passing and 6 TD's by Quarterback Bryce Petty came back. And came back fast.
With the game tied and just over a minute to go, TCU coach Gary Patterson decided to go for it on 4th and 3 from the Baylor 45. And inexplicably called a pass play.
The pass was incomplete.
Giving Petty and Baylor a minute to go half the field was plenty of time. A pass interference call against TCU and some smart running by Shock Linwood who ran for 172 yards, out the ball in position for Callahan to finish the game.
And he did...
Your highlights (and there are a lot of them) from ESPN.com:

Giving Petty and Baylor a minute to go half the field was plenty of time. A pass interference call against TCU and some smart running by Shock Linwood who ran for 172 yards, out the ball in position for Callahan to finish the game.
And he did...

Blake Bortles Nails His NFL Audition, If He So Chooses
You've got to think Central Florida quarterback Blake Bortles might be thinking about going pro.
Especially after his performance Wednesday night in front of a national TV audience in the Fiesta Bowl.
Bortles completed 20 of 31 passes for 301 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for a career high 93 yards and a touchdown in UCF's 52-42 Fiesta Bowl win over Baylor.
Thanks UCF Knights
"It's awesome to be a part of this." Bortles said. "We came in together. We're all within one year of each other. We weren't highly touted guys out of high school. We came to UCF on a mission."
Bortles would win Fiesta Bowl MVP honors.
"I think he came back and made some big plays with his legs and also turned some plays that could have been very bad for us, into really good plays getting the ball downfield." UCF head coach George O'Leary said.
"He [Bortles] deserved it [Fiesta Bowl MVP Award]." O'Leary added, "I think he played very well."
What was important about Bortles performance against Baylor was that he was able to keep pace with Teddy Bridgewater and Johnny Manziel (should he choose to go pro) in jaw-dropping performance's in the collegiate finale's.
Those who evaluate talent for the NFL Draft (and those of us in the OSG HQ tend to stay out of that business) see a work in progress with Bortles.
The NFL lure might be to great though.

Blake Bortles' conflict: media/mock drafts = top 10, NFL advisory panel = 2nd RD. 5th pick = 4yrs/18M, 40th pick = 4yrs/4M. #toughcall

Baylor Squeaks By TCU: Gary Patterson Not Happy With Art Briles
((ht: thebiglead.com))
Sounds like we have a budding rivalry forming here.
Lost in the rubble of Baylor's 41-38 win over TCU Saturday evening is the post-game rant of TCU coach Gary Patterson.
Patterson was highly ticked off after a play in the 3rd quarter. That play involved Baylor safety Ahmad Dixon and a helmet-to-helmet hit on TCU's Trevone Boykin. Dixon was apparently tossed for the Targeting penalty, but apparently stayed on the sideline.
Patterson tried to come across the field to have Dixon ejected and was confronted by Briles.
Check out Patterson's post game presser:

Reality Check: Baylor Humbled By Okie State
So much for the BCS bound Baylor Bears.
Baylor ran into a buzz saw Saturday night in Stillwater, Oklahoma and walked away losers after Oklahoma State dropped a 49-17 smack down on them.
And no, the game was never that close.
The Cowboys rode 370 yards passing and 3 TD's by QB Clint Chelf and stout defense that created 3 turnovers to hand Baylor the loss.
The Bears came in neck-and-neck with Ohio State for the #3 spot in the BCS and were a heavy favorite in the game despite Okie State only having one loss.
The win puts the Cowboys in the drivers seat to get to the Big 12 Championship game. Win that and they'll be the team playing in a BCS bowl game.

Oklahoma State Bad News For The #3 Baylor Bears, Cowboys win 49-17
Lets see how many college football fans drop off the Baylor Bears bandwagon now.
Oklahoma State's 49-17 win over #3 Baylor have killed Baylor's chances to win a BCS National Champion.
(Thanks Newsok.com)
Cowboy quarterback Clint Chelf assured it would be a long night in Stillwater for the Bears. Chelf threw for a career high 370 yards and three touchdowns and even rushed for a touchdown too.
“I'm happy with the groove he's in." Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy was quoted in Daily Oklahoman. "We just want to let him keep going.”
The Cowboy defense held the potent Bear offense to just 453 yards of total offense. We say just 453 yards because Baylor's offense averaged 684.4 yards per game.
“Oklahoma State played extremely well and had a lot of energy and made plays when they needed them,” Baylor head coach Art Briles said. “We did things you can’t do at home or on the road, and you dang sure can’t do them against a good team on the road. They’re a good football team, and that’s why you had the outcome that happened tonight.”
“This loss won’t define our team,” Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty said.
Petty had career highs in had career highs in passing attempts (48) and completions (28) for 359 yards and two touchdowns but is wasn't enough.
“This is a great team, a special team." Petty said. "But us not finishing drives wasn’t fair to our defense, and that’s on my shoulders. I have the ball on every play, and I have to execute.”
Baylor has TCU at Ft. Worth next week before closing the season at home against Texas.Oklahoma State has a week off before taking on Oklahoma December 7th in another edition of the Bedlam game.

Best Team You're Not Aware of: Baylor Drops 63 on Texas Tech
They are ranked 4th, 5th or 6th depending on which poll you believe.
They average 61 points a game and over 600 yards on offense.
Famous alumni (recent)--Mr. RGIII of the Washington Redskins.
And they are undefeated and have inserted themselves into the BCS Championship game conversation.
"They" are the Baylor Bears and the Bears, under Coach/Offensive genius Art Briles are now 9-0, 6-0 in the Big 12 after beating Texas Tech 63-34 on Saturday.
Mind you the score after one quarter was 21-20 Baylor. Of course that also means the score was 42-14 the rest of the night.
The Bears racked up a cool 675 yards of offense, and strangely enough, that total was very well balanced. 335 yards passing, 340 rushing. Quarterback Bryce Petty, he accounted for 5 touchdowns himself (3 passing, 2 running).
The game itself wasn't always pretty and the Baylor defense, while not horrible, is probably not SEC or even ACC worthy.
But how can you not pay attention to a team like this?
Sure, if they beat 12th ranked Oklahoma State next week they'll finish undefeated. But it probably won't be enough. As impressive as the numbers are, it won't get them past the name cache of Ohio State. It definitely won't get them past Florida State or Alabama either….unless two of the three aforementioned teams lose.
Which in theory, isn't likely, but how much fun would it be….if it did happen?

Baylor Takes Care Of Bid-Ness, Knocks Off Big Game Bob...
((HT: Newsok.com))
The first quarter of the Baylor-Oklahoma game last night was what most folks thought it would be... the Sooners slowing down Baylor's offense and hamstringing them to normalcy- especially after the safety, free kick return, and a 5-3 lead...
Which might have been the beginning of the end for the Sooners... getting three instead of seven...
From there, Baylor and their black shirts outscored Oklahoma 38-7 on their way to a dominating, 41-12 win where Baylor took advantage of mistakes and capitalized quickly...
Very quickly...
Here's Damon Fontenot- very, very late last night talking about all the problems...
The Oklahoman's Berry Tramel thinks that both Josh Heupel and Blake Bell are in trouble where their jobs are concerned... From Tramel: Two years ago, after Robert Griffin torched the Sooners for a 45-38 upset, Stoops was motivated to switch his defensive leadership. Within six weeks, Mike Stoops was in and Brent Venables was out. So the Heupel watch officially has begun. Bob Stoops went 13 years without firing a coach. Now he's fired four and demoted another in the last two seasons. Stoops has proven he's got a guillotine and will use it.

The Dirty Dozen and Bottom of the Barrel: You Can't Handle The Truth
Truth be told. This week is one that's going to separate the men from the boys. In many ways.
Oregon vs. Stanford, Oklahoma at Baylor. On a Thursday night no-less. What ever is a football fan to do…?
For those of you young'ins out there, go look this video up. It's from Saturday Night Live and it's the only clue I'm giving you. The rest of us are already familiar with it.
But we have other things to talk about today. Including our record. You know, the reason you read the column. To learn all there is to know about College Football in a true, fair and honest manner.
With occasional humor.
Last week, 11-0 on the predictions. Yes, 11-0 Bitches!
Tell 'em Naitch…That makes us 105-16 on the season. Go back and check.
But there's important business to take care of. Like this week's poll.
So in the words of the immortal Casey Kasem, it's "On with the Countdown"….
THE DIRTY DOZEN:
1) Florida St. 8-0. We proclaim thee, the best in all the land. Though we don't know if the BCS computers are going to agree with us. Really, Miami was the main, potential land-mine, and a date at toothless Florida suddenly doesn't seem so scary. This Week: at Wake Forest. Our Pick: FSU 51, Wake 13
2) Oregon 8-0. Time to find out how tough the Ducks really are. A roadie to Palo Alto. The only team to slow the Quack was UCLA, last week. And they still allowed Oregon 42 points. Marcus Mariota, he's accounted for 29 TD's this season…with 4 games left. This Week: at Stanford. Our Pick: Oregon 38, Stanford 23 (Disregard last weeks early pick)
3) Alabama 8-0. Why do we rank Alabama #3? Because SEC folks, outside Texas A&M, they've not played anyone worth a crap. Nobody. Go ahead, argue this point.
This Week: vs. LSU. Our Pick: Alabama 37, LSU 27
4) Baylor 7-0. Yes America, we are on the Baylor Bandwagon. #4 in all the land. 63 points per game. Flying high. Slowing down for no-one. Until now. If Thursday's game were in Norman, we'd pick the upset. It isn't. This Week: vs. Oklahoma. Our Pick: Baylor 43, Oklahoma 28
5) Ohio St. 9-0. Yes, yes, yes Buckeyes, we know you don't get enough love…or something like that. 9-0, winning by 31 points a game. But you play in the REALLY crappy Big 10. Which is barely a notch above the AAC. Yeah, we said it. This Week: BYE
6) Stanford 7-1. Early on, this was our sort-of dark horse pick to win it all. We'll back off that prediction now, though they are certainly formidable (big word HA!). The Tree has been good, not great and to not be pooped on by the Ducks, they'll need to be great. This Week: SEE #2
7) Missouri 8-1. Welcome back Mizzou. Thankfully the hangover of choking away the South Carolina game didn't carry over. Your fate is now in your hands. The schedule is not difficult from this point forward. Beat the Johnny Football's at the end of the month, you get to go to Atlanta. Period. And face Alabama. Your welcome. This Week: at Kentucky. Our Pick: Mizzou 37, Kentucky 6 (2 3-pt FG's)
8) Oklahoma 7-1. No, the Sooners haven't been dominant. But they've gotten better every week. Still can't explain getting manhandled by Texas, but there's still time to make up for it. Though you'll need to be sharp this week. This Week: SEE #4
9) Clemson 7-1. Looks like the Tigers have regained their mojo, at least a little bit. Though they'll need a lot of help to get to the ACC title game. Otherwise, can you say "Chick-Fil-A"? This Week: BYE
10) Auburn 8-1. We don't buy into these guys as much as the national computers do, though we love the job Gus Malzahn has done. Explain again how Gene Chizik coached here last season….Tighten up the "D" and you are looking at a title contender. Of course keep winning and beat 'Bama…and you are definitely a contender. This Week: at Tennessee. Our Pick: Vols 31, Auburn 30 UPSET
11) Fresno St 8-0. Woo hoo! Undee-freakin-feated….Derek Carr is a fantastic QB and the Bulldogs are worth watching ifyou've got some time. Too bad they play on Pacific time, so a lot of you don't get to see them. Too bad. This Week: at Wyoming. Our Pick: Fresno 37, Wyoming 31
12) Northern Illinois 9-0. Is this a Top 5 team? No. Is this a Top 10 team? Maybe. Is this a team you should be watching? Absolutely. Jordan Lynch is a B.A.M.F (look it up). 31 TD's and counting on the season. A poor man's Marcus Mariota. The Huskies face their toughest test of the season, this week. This Week: vs. Ball St. Our Pick: NIU 43, Ball St. 33
THE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL:
5) UConn 0-7. You know who you are…
You are a REALLY crappy football team…nothing else needs to be said. Prove us wrong. This Week: vs. Louisville. Our Pick: Louisville 58, UConn 10
4) Eastern Michigan 1-8. Yeah…about that whole defense thing. You have to stop the other team from scoring in order to win. They did tell you guys that….didn't they? This Week: vs. W. Michigan. Final Score: oofff…do we have to? Tie Score 45 all…
3) Ga. State 0-9. Sorry guys. Guess you picked a bad year to jump to FBS. Or maybe not? You weren't too good in FCS if we remember correctly. Eh…either way. Congrats on becoming a big schools practice squad. This Week: BYE (at least they won't lose)
2) Miami (OH) 0-9. We're guessing the RedHawks can't wait for the season to end. It's been a rough year. No wins, your top 2 RB's haven't scored a TD. You are at the bottom of the MAC. Unfortunately, you don't play E. Michigan though. So you won't win this year. This Week: at Kent St. (Nov.13), Our Pick: Kent St. 21, Miami 13
1) Southern Miss. 0-9. Oh, the agony of it all. Going on 2 straight seasons with no wins. Oh, the agony. And unfortunately, no end in sight. A lot of things need to change before that will happen. Yeah, just not seeing any bright side here. This Week: at La. Tech. Our Pick: La.Tech 37, S.Miss 10
'Nuff said….

Can Anyone Derail The Baylor Offense? Bears put up over 70 points again.
Right now Baylor head coach Art Briles is the resident offensive genius in college football.
Heading into the West Virginia game Saturday the Bears led the nation in total offense averaging a staggering 751.3 yards per game while putting up almost 70 points a game.
Even Oregon's offense can't compete.
Saturday in front of 45,467 fans at Floyd Casey Stadium in Waco, Texas Baylor padded those stats.
Baylor put up a Big 12 Conference record 864 yards of total offense and put up over 70 points to defeat West Virginia 73-42. In face Baylor's 73 points is a Big 12 conference record too for most points in a single game in a conference head-to-head match-up.
Enjoy the offensive show.
Saturday against West Virginia was Bryce Petty's fourth start as the Bears quarterback and once again Petty put up big numbers. He threw for 347 yards and two touchdowns.
“It’s a team win." Petty said. "We’re all smiles right now and we should be."
Damn right you should smile after that performance.
Next week Baylor travels to the "Little Apple", Manhattan, Kansas to face the K-State Wildcats.
It might be a little tougher to put up 70 there.

Big Numbers, Big Whoop...Louisville, Miami, Baylor, Pitt
Ranked versus Unranked led to a 17-0 spread and an average score of 47-11...
Some people like it for the idea of getting your back-ups the chance to get reps- just in case...
Others think it's tiresome...
Baylor beat Louisiana-Monroe 70-7 and no one wants to play Baylor
((HT: KWTX-TV))
Iowa put up 59 against a directional Michigan school while Michigan actually just survived a UConn road game...
Savannah State picked up another paycheck traveling to Miami to get whacked by Miami 77-7. The spread was 60 and they covered...
“I know that I can change a program like this,” first-year Savannah State coach Earnest Wilson said. “We aspire to be big-time. A game like this helps us judge where we are. The only difference is depth. I know I have to go out and recruit and get some guys like they have.”
Savannah State got $375,000 for taking the trip to Miami, plus another chance to line up against a ranked program. The game was shortened in the fourth quarter. Wilson and Miami’s Al Golden talked at halftime and agreed to trim 3 minutes off the final quarter.
“I’ve been there,” Golden said. “I’ve been on the other side of those at Temple. He was trying to teach his team how to keep fighting. I’ve been in his shoes.”
Here's the highlights...
In Louisville, Teddy Bridgewater threw four touchdown passes and Louisville's defense allowed a school-record 30 yards, helping the seventh-ranked Cardinals blow out Florida International 72-0. It was the highest scoring game for the Cardinals since a 73-10 victory over Murray State in 2007. It also matched the school's fifth-largest margin of victory.
And in a game that, actually, was entertaining about it...
Pitt and Duke went after each other to the tune of a 58-55 shootout where the Panthers had to run out the clock on the ground...
What this says about Coach Cut and the Duke defense, the HQ doesn't really know... but there should be reason for optimism with the offense...

Kim Mulkey Gets A Suspension
Okay...
How many of you remember this from the Final Four weekend...???
((HT: ESPN/NCAA))
The HQ didn't, but the folks in Indianapolis did...
So, as a result... the Baylor head coach has been given a one-game suspension for the March post-season tournament. The folks who run the college game also are holding the Bears championship per diem for the regional round...
Which, probably hurts more than the suspension does...
Mulkey, in the eyes of the NCAA, is a repeat offender. She was reprimanded in 2011 for criticizing the NCAA when they put texas A&M in her bracket- a team it had faced three times that season. Texas A&M won the game in the tourney and the national title.
"The committee unanimously felt that the behavior of Coach Mulkey was unacceptable and has no place in the women's basketball championship," said Carolayne Henry, committee chair and senior associate commissioner for the Mountain West Conference.

OSG High: West, Texas... With The Comma
When Interstate 35 west winds its way, for those travelling that way, toward the merger with I-35 it's near the town of Hillsboro, Texas. The towns click off every ten miles or so- Alvarado, Itasca, Hillsboro, and then, West. A lot of people are genuinely confused over the name. But the first postmaster of the town of 2,800 in McLennan County was a guy by the name of T.M. West.
Thus, the name... and it has nothing to do with direction or time and place...
Everyone knows now that the death toll in a catastrophic mill explosion is now 14 with dozens still listed as missing- 7 fatalities from volunteer fire departments inside the state.
“It is by far one of, if not the worst, (disasters) we have seen in the state of Texas,” said Assistant State Fire Marshal Kelly Kistner.
There will be regulatory issues and safety issues that will come up over the next while over the West plant- especially after the idea that those who ran the plant maintained that there would never be any kind of catastrophic event like the one that happened. It would only be a ten second release of ammonia gas- and that would be it.
But it wasn't... and it won't be for a while...
It's a part of the state where, if drivers don't like the traffic pattern, they'll high-step their cars and trucks over the grass medians and plow over to the roads that run parallel to the freeway. It's a part of the state also known as much for its Czech influence. There are restaurants in Hillsboro and in West where you can pick up a mean kolache and, now, they're places for remembering who is gone and who remains.
Buildings have been obliterated... and I don't even think that is giving the word justice. Schools in the blast zone are not safe and superintendents have had to give advice from all around the state to figure out how to make the last month of school... "normal..."
Students will resume classes on Monday. Some students will start their new lives in neighboring Connally ISD, while some students will go to West Elementary School, which Crawford said was the only campus not affected by the explosion...
Translation... "the only school left standing where we feel safe putting people."
Everyone short of 6th grade goes there. The middle and high schoolers go to an abandoned school in Connally.
“Our goal for the next 30 days is to make sure (students) have a great experience, that we could put back a little normalcy and consistency in the kids’ lives,” West ISD Superintendent Marty Crawford said.
And the kids had to try...
In Hillsboro, the Eagles were set to play a double-header against Burnsville-Eddy Friday. The JV game went by the boards and the two schools were set to play one game in the newly-constructed softball and baseball stands. Their number one fan, who was there way too early for first pitch was asked the simple question of "How are you doin'...?"
"We're here..."
And that sums up the mood of the whole region...
Over at the county fairgrounds, kids from fraternities and sororities made their way from Baylor to help unload trucks and cram everything they got from 18-wheelers into cardboard boxes and get them to West as soon as they could.
"We're more organized now than we were at the beginning," one Phi Chi told me. "If a truck comes in and it's a fork-lift truck, we really can't do anything. But if it was hand-packed, you see what we're able to do."
And that translated into about 20 college students moving around to fill boxes on four hour shifts waiting for the next group to take over.
"There are three different fraternities here," he continued. "No one cared what frat you were when you showed up. And that's not always necessarily the case."
Justin Lewis came to the fairgrounds in a blue blazer, white dress shirt, and beige power tie complete with blue jeans and boots. He seemed to be the one orchestrating what needed to be put where and how quickly. His day job is that of a Hill County judge, but his focus was on turning around every gifted piece of aid and getting it to West.
"We've got a Wal-Mart's worth of material," he admitted as the pile grew behind him. "Places like H.E.B. (a local department store chain) and Farmers are helping out with their trucks. And our job is to sort, inventory, re-box and be a distribution point. If someone calls and says 'I need toilet paper,' then I can go 'Okay, we'll get you a palette.' If someone calls and says, 'I need clothes.' Then, we can go 'Okay, we'll get you a palette of that.' and so on... That's what we're doing here."
But, it's not all optimism. You get the sense, though, that the work is keeping him from focusing on what he lost.
"It's bad. Real bad... it's ugly down there" and all he could do is look down and shake his head briefly before regaining focus on the job he and everyone else in the fairgrounds was working on. "I've lost friends and I can't find others. But, right now, we're running on adrenaline. They're family. And that's what you do..."
And the 18-wheelers just kept coming... a good thing for everyone- those who needed it to get their lives back on track and for those who needed to help so they could regain a part of theirs.
Thus, the name... and it has nothing to do with direction or time and place...
