DEVELOPING: Gene Bartow Dies At 81

The gentleman referred to as the "Father of UAB Athletics" passed tonight after a two-year battle with stomach cancer.

He started the UAB program after two years at UCLA, succeeding John Wooden. Bartow also served as the school's first Athletic Director and continued the job after handing the head hoops coaching job to his son, Murry.

Bartow took two teams to Final Fours and three teams to Elite Eights. He also coached the Puerto Rico five-ringed squad, took teams to China for touring, coached the US National squad in the mid-1970's, and has been inducted into ten different Halls of Fame.

Here's Bartow's induction into the College Basketball Hall of Fame...
