Football Season Has Kicked Off As Slick Willy Bombs Argos

Winnipeg QB Drew Willy
There is nothing like Thursday Night Football in June as the Canadian Football League season opened in Winnipeg as the Blue Bombers took on the Toronto Argonauts.

Drew Willy, who set passing records at the University of Buffalo and had a cup of coffee in the NFL, impressed Blue Bomber fans in his debut.

Willy completed 19 of 27 passes for 308 yards and four touchdowns as Winnipeg bombed Toronto 45-21.

"The number one thing quarterbacks have to do, what they are in charge of is winning." Winnipeg head coach Mike O'Shea said.  "He (Willie) went out there and he helped win the game for us."

Willy, a back up quarterback for the Saskatchewan Roughriders the last two seasons, finally has a chance to start and impressed in his opener.

"I kind of thought I could do it but I'm a confident guy," Willy said.. "I knew if I went through my reads and did everything possible things would go right . . . We got off to a good start. It was nice on the first drive to score."

Click on the link to see Aaron Kelly's catch for Winnipeg's first touchdown of the game.  It was a great catch.

Kelly, a former Clemson wide receiver, had a monster game with five catches for 100 yards and two touchdowns.

Kelly held the ACC record for receptions with 232 until Duke's Connor Vernon broke the record in 2012.

"I worked hard to win the starting spot here and just wanted to come out and start fast and help the team win." Kelly said.

Those of us in the OSG HQ are football fans.  NFL, College and yes the CFL.

It's great to be talking football again.
