Crazy night in Happy Valley: Summarizing Penn State problem

Joe Paterno
By now, most anyone who watches the news or reads the newspaper or keeps up with news of the day online knows what happened late Wednesday night at Penn State.

The university's Board of Trustees decided, rightfully, that head football coach Joe Paterno had to step down and the school's president resigned his position.

That move, did not sit well with thousands of very ignorant Penn State students.

So much so that they took to the streets, chanting, damaging things and even turning over a WTAJ-TV live truck. (Video from hisnameisdre/YouTube)

And here is more video of the morons who took to the streets:

First and foremost, we need to make something clear here. The problem, the scandal going on at Penn State is not about Joe Paterno. It is not about "His Legacy" and it is not about "What he did for the school". Nobody questions that.

For any Penn State student that reads this...this is about covering up for Child Rape. What part of that do you not understand? It is about a system that instead of investigating former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky, let him quietly retire and have full access to the school. And this is AFTER they knew something was wrong. As far back as the the mid 90's. Read up on this. It's documented.

And don't think for a minute that Paterno's "I didn't know" is enough to excuse him. At the very least, it shows a complete disconnect with the world around him. Based on what we've seen, he realizes...now, that something was wrong. Yes, I believe he didn't fully grasp what was going on in relation to Sandusky.

To say that he passed on the 2002 report was enough, is ludicrous. At the BARE minimum, he should have followed up on then graduate assistant Mike McQueray's report. At least one "So what happened with this?". Something. Anything.

He didn't.

Paterno would, after the rioting began Wednesday night, come out of his home briefly to speak. He could have done the RIGHT thing and said something like "As painful as this decision is, it is in the best interest of the University. Please respect that and stop this crazy rioting and looting".

He didn't.

Fox 29 in Philadelphia gives us Paterno talking outside his home:

We...well everyone should hope that the story can now move past this. Yeah, it was a riot. Yeah, the students behavior was one of the stupidist, idiotic, ignorant acts that I've ever seen. But it is over. And as much as yesterday's actions were about Paterno, what happened in State College is not about him.

Let's hope that the rest of this case comes completely to the light. Let's hope that we know exactly what happened. Like it or not Penn State/State College, there are STRONG indicators that there was an institutional effort to cover for Jerry Sandusky. The 2002 incident where he was caught was a big part of all of this. But it WASN'T the 1st time it was brought up.

Read everything you can about what happened. Follow this story closely. Because if you do, you will see that is MUCH more than just what the students call the "Not right' firing of Joe Paterno. This is about Paterno...and others sticking their collective heads in the sand and allowing a MONSTER to roam freely about their campus abusing and ruining the lives of powerless boys.

Deal with it.
