Escobar docked 3 games for eye-black slur

Okay.

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Yunel Escobar will be sitting out the next three games after he was suspended by Major League Baseball for putting a Spanish, homophobic slur in his eye-black for a game this past Saturday.

Yeah, that's right, he was suspended for something incredibly stupid.

The image was first noticed in a Getty Images photo and yes, it's going to cost Mr. Escobar some money as well. His team apologized for the gesture by saying his fine will go to a team-charity and to G.L.A.A.D.

Escobar read a pre-written apology saying, "I apologize to the Jays fans and baseball fans in general. It wasn't anything personal, it was something I always do with the stickers on my eyes." And he said this through an interpreter.

We covered Escobar when he played for the Braves. His English isn't stellar, but he uses an interpreter when he doesn't want to talk.
