Vandy beats Auburn: Chizik may not make season end

((ht:al.com))

It's official. Auburn football is now a country music song. The fans look like they've lost their wife, their dog died and all there money is gone.

Actually the last one may be true.

Anyway, Vanderbilt did what was necessary today in Nashville, beating a sad Auburn team 17-13. The win makes Vandy 3-4 overall, 2-3 in the SEC.

But the story is kind of Auburn which has been in polite terms...Freefall. The Tigers are now 1-6 overall and 0-5 in the SEC West.

And the countdown to the end for Auburn coach Gene Chizik, if it hadn't already started, is moving full-speed ahead.

Vandy tried their best to hand over the game, fumbling with 2:24 left on the Auburn 32. But much like the rest of the season, Auburn did nothing with it.
