University of Missouri |
This week may...or may not renew the interest in College Football "Galactic Realignment". And while it is a move that certainly won't kill a conference, it won't make the questions about it go away either.
On the table: The University of Missouri's board of curators (we guess that would be regents to the rest of us), will meet on Tuesday to discuss the school's athletic future. Do they stay with the Big 12 or do they go to the bright lights and bigger money of the SEC?
Nobody really knows the answer to that...or what they will decide to do. And if you are curious, the SEC Presidents will be meeting on Wednesday. But that may just be a coincidence.
The Columbia, MO Tribune has an interesting look at the decision at hand RIGHT HERE
This decision also comes on the heels of Monday's decision by the Big 12 to split..."Some" of their revenues evenly instead of the way they have been doing it.
In the past, the conference took their primary and secondary monies and gave a big chunk to Texas, a big chunk to Oklahoma and then split the rest with everyone else.
They now will share it evenly. At least, according to a release, for the next 6 years.
What it doesn't address is the "Elephant in the room", the Texas Longhorn Network. Which, quite honestly, has been the cause of pretty much all the Big 12's problems.

It was done primarily to appease Missouri. However Missouri is facing a huge dilemma. It appears the administrators etc. want to stay where they are, the students and alumni....are pushing, very hard, to get into the SEC.
We think ultimately, they will pass. We could be wrong and often are. We agree with the students that they should make the leap and that the SEC is willing to let them in. But, we think the administrators will win.
We could be wrong and we'll monitor the meetings tomorrow and Wednesday and update you on what happens.
